The anticipation is killing me....
I should be working on a paper for my history class, but to be honest, it is impossible to concentrate right now on anything BUT the A's. I am decked out in all my A's gear (5:o'clock here in Colorado), with a huge grin on my face knowing that I will be watching the A's season opener in approximately 10.5 hours. After I eek'd out my thesis statement, my mind raced away to some of my best A's game moments. Thus, the purpose of this post is to share with all of you my favorite A's game moment, and of course, to hear all of your awesome A's game memories!
My favorite memory to this day was (drumroll....) Jason Giambi's first game back in Oakland, wearing the pinstripes. Wow, what a day that was. To this day I have never seen the Coliseum filled with so many people than that game - If I remember correctly, the attendance was around 65,000! It was easily the loudest game I have ever been to. I was sitting in section 218, which is 2nd deck along the third base line, really close to home plate. I vividly remember the plethora of signs everywhere in the stadium, all with a common theme - can you guess? There were so many clever Giambi poster's, ranging from the "$ellout" in the right field bleachers, to the older nostalgic woman sitting stadium level with a "Thank's for all the memories Jason" poster. However, the majority were definitely voicing their displeasure about Jason heading over to the greener pastures, which just happened to grow over on the Dark Side.
When Giambi's name was called introducing him in the starting lineup, the coliseum filled with the tantalizing "boo's" that I couldn't even hear the person next to me. When Giambi started walking out of the dugout towards the batter's box in the first inning, it ensued again. Complete hysteria! Alas, Giambi was up to bat, with of course the boo's serenading the coliseum to the delight of every A's fan in attendance. The Bulldog Huddy was on the mound, with that deathly stare to home plate while waiting for the signs from the catcher. The next two events were my favorite part of the night by far. Hudson's first pitch was a fastball - up and in. The crowd went absolutely nuts as Giambi was brushed back off the plate. Hudson definitely set the tone with that pitch. A few pitches later, Giambi fouls a ball back behind the A's dugout. A few seconds later, that ball is heaved back towards the third base line, landing on the infield grass! At this point, the Coliseum was absolutely-a'-rocking! The combination of serenading Giambi with boo's once he stepped out of the dugout, to Hudson's first pitch up and in, to the fan who would rather forego a great souvenir in the name of loyalty to the A's, complete my favorite memory of attending an A's game. It is moment's like that which make you appreciate watching the Green and Gold in person.

Jason Giambi
Im glad that he is the Yankees problem now and not ours. Another found memory of a Giambi return, is in 2005 when he was in the on deck circle, and someone poured a full beer over his head. I was laughing my ass off, and then the camera's panned to the A's dugout, and it showed Mr. Barry Zito, mouthing some not so kind words about the Oakland fans.... Ahhh... Good times....

Speaking of Giambi moments...
I was at the homerun derby in Safeco Field, which was, I believe was in 2001, an epic season for the both the A's and the Mariners. Anyway, if yall remember Jason Giambi absolutely tore it up in the first round, maybe the first two rounds of the competition. He hit the longest most majestic homeruns of the entire derby and the fans were absolutely loving it. It the set the tone for a huge second half from Giambi and the A's.
I remember the game you speak of.
My favorite was the fan who had a rod and reel with a dollar attached to the hook end.
Another memorable moment was the double off the center field wall Miggy hit off of Rivera to win the game. It was a day game, my son was still very small. I spent the afternoon with him napping on my shoulder. I remember breathing in the scent of his hair in the warm sunshine and wishing that moment in time would never end. If God is willing and gives me many more years and I know when my time is coming, that'll be one of the memories I hold on to as I leave this world.

i have a question
and I didnt feel like creating a new post, cuz the subject was too small. But can anyone guess when the A's will officially DL Gaudin?
I'm sooooo ready for this.
I just tried to make some French toast out of bread shaped like an A's logo... practicing for tomorrow's early start. Didn't work.
rinse and repeat Jennifer. You'll make it happen!

photo?
My friend says the key is to cook first, then cut into A's logo.

Maybe I'll try plain toast instead.
The bread is just too soft to work. Frozen pancakes and frozen waffles would probaby work better.
it's not a breakfast dish
but how 'bout something like this (compliments of my niece)

I'm here to talk about the past.
nice
but isn't 450 in center awful deep?
IS that shibe park (pre spite fence)?

sorry i meant to put
"not to scale"
but a whole lot tastier than actual outfield grass
unless you're one of nico's goats
I'm here to talk about the past.
I'm trying to think of something to cook
in the middle of the night that will be quiet to make. I don't want to wake up my dog. She'll think it's morning and will then stare at me for 4 hours until her breakfast time. I hate it when she stares at me.

I didn't think of that
my dog is going to be thoroughly confused. i mean, i'm an early riser anyway, but this seriously might throw her entire day off.
I'm here to talk about the past.
At 3 AM I generally want one thing and one thing only ...
one last beer ... but absent that (and especially given that I'm going the wake up really early route), it's pancakes, definitely pancakes.

Jennifer may have inspired me to change my mind, though ...

Cereal
is pretty quiet to make. Unless I spill milk all over the place and start yelling expletives.
I am so frickin excited.
But if our team wins it sucks that so many folks will be sleeping and won't see the game.
All I gotta say
is that 5 AM baseball makes spring break + unemployed = not a bad combination.

holy crap that looks awesome
Is that a dusting of powdered sugar?!
No way a Red Sox fan has something that fan-damn-tastic in thier skillet!

Wait, so are you making breakfast?
Because that'd be pretty awesome.

I was trying to... practicing for tomorrow.
But now I'm French toasted out. And I don't think I'm going to get up early enough to make anything special. Hell, I'll be lucky to get dressed in time for work.
that's awesome
we're going to need an entire separate thread for people to post pictures of their breakfasts.
There's no crying in baseball!
That's gorgeous!
Now you just need to garnish it.....golden syrup and green mint leaves?
The candy and the baseball all night long: )

Being stuck at work for 20 hours straight sucks... But at least there's cable and a plasma TV in the conference room.
