2 Concerns from a real life POV(No Stats, Just Intuition)

Just so everyone knows, I have gone to at least 50 home games per year since 1994.  I'm 25, and my Dad has season tix. I'm working to get Tix to pay him back.  Be kind.

#1:  Joey Divine seems to be one of those relief pitchers that just gets it done.  He has a great name, a great dilivery, and, by the way, has three pitches.

#2:  Denorfia is still a work in progress.  My intuition says he can't cut it, and Linden is the better option at this point.  If a guy is hot, he is hot. CF is playable in Oakland, as Swisher proved a year ago.  Go with Todd until he makes you go with Denorfia, not the other way around.

I think this team, if healthy, will shock the living crud out of people, if off to a nice start.  A nice start (aka above .500 after April) means having guys like Linden and Divine on the team, more than Denorfia and Rule 5.  Just my thoughts.  Here's to shocking the world in 08!

Devine will be up soon

I can basically guarantee that. There's simply no way everybody in the A's bullpen will stay healthy and effective. If they all are, someone will get traded.

[Also, your title is missing the second "c" in "concerns"... which is editable, BTW.]

Actually Denorfia is getting hot, he has raised

his average over 1oo points in the past 3 games. So he is peaking at the right time, and is by far the better fielder. amd pnce again IS ALREADY ON THE 40 MAN ROSTER!!!!!!

Like an explosion in a septic tank...

his pitching has to be seen to be believed.

Wait, that's not right. I'm thinking of Horacio Ramirez.

Thank God for this diary -

I've been waiting to hear someone's personal opinion on two random players. Finally!

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Thank god for this comment,

I've been waiting for someone to be sarcastic and/or facetious all day. What is the need for ripping on someone like that? Junk diaries simply get no comments and go away. Just expected better from an AN big wig like yourself, that's all.

Go A's!!!

by 33SwisherSweet on Mar 18, 2008 8:01 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

First of all, my wig is not that big

Second of all, junk diaries don't just go away, they push other diaries down.

Third of all, for reasons that still elude me, they're no longer called "diaries" - even though mine are often scribbled down with no thought or care. They're called "fanposts" - even though I don't even own a fan or a post.

Fourth of all, fine - I apologize.

Fifth of all, the truth of the matter is, my comment was made out of pure jealousy - I've been unable to come up with a fanpost this good for months and have been reduced to posting drivel that doesn't even mention Divine's dilivery.

Sixth of all, you didn't capitalize "God" in your comment and as a result will be going straight to H-E-doublehockeysticks immediately upon your demise. Apparently He is rather sensitive about this issue.

Seventh of all, um...yeah.

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

No way!

It's yet another example of a complete asshat who thinks his shit doesn't stink making fun of someone's post. OMG, this Nico person is involved again, and that Paul thomas person made an ass out of himself yet again. every f'ing day - every f'ing post - it's like a group of 7 people that enjoy acting witty and oh so mighty. You guys are f'ing morons. who runs this place? oh another moron.

Oh yeah - didn't that Nico dude write a whole fricking page awhile ago explaining why he didn't care if the A's made the playoffs or not? lol You're a f'ing joke dude. AN's turned into nothing but a few blog nerds snapping towels at each other. Enjoy it alone.

wow

i never understood the point of going onto a message board or a blog for the sole purpose of creating confrontations. I mean, really, what do you get out of it? Although Pt, Nico and some of the other posters on here may come off as a little brash, they do know what they're talking about. Well, most of the time anyway :) By all means, keep posting these ignorant comments if that's what it takes to get a cheap thrill. I just can't, for the life of me, understand the purpose of it. Personally, when i see a post like the one above, i automatically picture a 17 year old kid that thinks using profanity on a website is going to make him look cool. Just for future reference, it usually has the opposite effect. In the future, if you can make a point and back it up with facts, you will usually garner more respect among the community. That is, of course, unless you come across someone like yourself.

Isn't that exactly what Nico did with his first reponse?

Not much of a welcome for a new poster on AN to respond to his dia...err... fanpost with such a ridiculous reponse.

It seems fairly simple to me: Don't respond if you aren't interested in it. Nothing productive will come from slamming the guy like that.

And as far as the "Junk diaries push other diaries down" comment, I thought that' is what the recommendation system was for.

by mikev on Mar 19, 2008 11:15 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that's exactly

why i've never bashed a fellow An'er for their opinion. I may not always agree with someone else's opinion, but that doesn't necessarily make it wrong. I do think that we have a lot of 'lurkers' on here that are reluctant to post for fear of being pounded by the more 'senior' posters here. Hell, i just got pounded in the 'Sox boycott Japan' thread. It kind of sucks getting beat up on, but so what? People shouldn't take themselves so seriously. Despite the potential bashing, i would like to see more of the 'lurkers' make their comments known. Whether the comment is 'up to par' for some of the other poster's or not, it will still create dialogue between fans. Isn't that what this blog is intended for? In defense of Nico, while i don't condone bashing another poster's opinions, atleast he was able to do it without profanity or name calling. For that, he does deserve some credit.

New poster?

I mean, he's posted 8 diaries in the 8 months he's been here.

that he's been here for 8 months? it looks like he signed up yesterday to me. Maybe we are looking at something different.

I misunderstood.

I didn't realize people were talking about the troll. I thought mikev was referring to swishdball.

by JediLeroy on Mar 19, 2008 12:10 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was talking about swishdball

Frankly, there's zero reason for a response such as Nico's, ESPECIALLY from one of the posters that gets put on the front page and is considered one of the "main" contributors to AN. If there is anyone who should be held to higher standards when it comes to interactions with other ANers, it's the core group of posters who make up the front page.

by mikev on Mar 19, 2008 12:22 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed. It was uncalled for.

I was just debating the "newness" of Swishdball. He's posted as many diaries as I have.

unless you are a professional baseball player, that's a problem.

But I agree that Nico's response was inappropriate.

Wait, didn't you just post a front page article..

Giving your "opinions" about two random players (Linden and Brown)?

I call shenanigans.

No, Eveland was in there two

Posting random opinions about three players is totally different. As someone who really would like more lurkers to participate, I apologize for the egregious, outrageous, biting and hate-filled one liner carelessly thrown out there on a whim (I was probably irritated by reading it after reading the previous fanpost, which was so lame - literally one sentence - that I deleted it). But my God, "mountain out of a molehill" city!

Personally

I personally really enjoy the sarcasm Nico, seriously, and it is nothing more than funny. Anyone who takes it personally just takes life too seriously. Yes, it was a vacuous posting and the kid is just 25. Nico, everyone looks up to you and because you are the vaunted one, you probably should be more diplomatic. How about I officially take over the reigns as sarcastic? Pleeease? I would love the role. It is what I live for. I am a professional smart ass by the way and can submit my resume.

In re Nico: did anyone make a fuss over HIS 20,000th comment?

It looks like it was in the game thread a few days ago.

Maybe he gots on the cranky pants about that.

I figured since I have waited, and been disappointed,

three Christmases in a row, with my 20,000th comment would surely come my pony. But nooooooo. So that kinda got my - ahem - goat. No actually I was reacting to the fact that there three fanposts (in a row, I think) that were either a single sentence or seemed like a comment not a fanpost. I didn't mean to react by being overly unkind, just a bit snarky.

For the third time, I shall offer my apologies, for the second time I'll say "But c'mon, really - all this fuss over that comment?", and for the first time I'll say "don't worry, since72 - love me, love my sarcastic side". The day I can't occasionally be snarky in a fanpost because I'm a front-page writer is the day I stop writing on the front page. I snark therefore I am. Call me Rev Nicofan. And kiss my goat's ass on the way out.

Oh, he di'int just say that!

It wasn't that much of a slam...

Nico didn't call the guy names or anything. Just registered disapproval of the vapid fanpost by using sarcasm. It wasn't much of a rip but the way people responded to Nico was. Surprised that so many people wanted to rip Nico a new one for that comment. Kinda silly of the community IMO.

by IM4Oakgal on Mar 19, 2008 10:27 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The reason why people are cranky about it

is because he's often criticized others (Ok, me, at least) for doing the same thing.

Everyone tattles on a tattletale, if you catch my drift. You want to talk the talk about playing nice, you'd better walk the walk.

You can bet this thread is going into my "examples of [apparently] innocuous sarcasm" vault.

Well Paul you know...

that I spoke up for you ..because some sarcasm should be allowed. People should be able to show some level of frustration ( and personality) without it being a CGV. I thought your case was blown way out of proportion and I feel the same way about Nico's comment in this fanpost.

It's also just really not nice to pick on a newbee ...

if this was someone who had a history of doing it, fine ... but it's not ... be nice ...

Not a "newbee" -

And I wonder if people noticed that the same author penned the "Forst" fanpost above this one. The need to write two fanposts in one night...of that...quality and depth?

Okay, I'll play: I think one of Nico's points is that he's batting 4000.00 in his posts/comments ratio.

Whereas you're at a preferred 7.94378.

That was confusing ...

if you're doing it batting average style, there should still be a decimal point at the beginning (.008) or at the very least, you shouldn't add a second one (008) ...
