3/12/08: I need a new DLD

We always get a little slackerish during spring training with the DLD's, so darn it, I need a Fresh one today....

Add Josh Beckett to the list of people who will be watching the Japan games at home. Maybe he and Chavy can watch together. Ooooh, watch party at Chavy's house! BYOSS (that's Bring Your Own Surgical Scars).

Okay, if the Yankees can sign Billy Crystal for a day, why can't we sign Rickey Henderson and let Rickey retire an A???  Oh wait, he'd probably want to keep playing. But still, he's got to be better than that Crystal guy the Yankees have....

Lance Mackey wins the Iditarod. Okay, it's not baseball, but at least it's not Red Sox or Yankees either.

Basketball fans -- Pac-10 tourney starts today.

A's play the D'backs today at 1:05 PDT.

Commence dumping!

(btw, I like the new diary FanPost editor....this is my first DLD since early on in 3.0, and this was much easier to put together....)

Poll
Should we have new DLD's everyday?
  • Yes, it's the right thing to do
  • Yes, as long as someone else starts them
  • Blah, I don't care
  • Nah, DLD's suck. I just come here for the pictures.
  • Fire the tree sitters now!

Is it just me?

Or is the prospect of a very young A's team facing a knuckleballer in Japan pretty bad news for us? I think I'd rather they face Dice-K or Beckett.

by HigherPie on Mar 12, 2008 9:23 AM PDT   0 recs

I'd be more worried if it was in Australia

Yo no comprendo

Why? Wakefield is not as good as those guys.

Your 2008 Athletics: It's Nothing Personal.

by PaulThomas on Mar 12, 2008 9:32 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree he's not as good

I just think there's a good chance he's going to dominate us, at least for the 5-6 innings he pitches. Like I said, the A's are young. They're going to have to gear down for the knucklers, which I imagine will be more difficult than usual because of the first-series-of-the-season (+ in Japan) adrenaline.

Yeah, this is one of those subjective gut feelings, but I'd rather take my chances with one of their fly ball pitchers in a hitter's ballpark, even if they're actually much better pitchers.

by HigherPie on Mar 12, 2008 9:53 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I actually think having a bunch of 12, er, 20 year olds

facing a knuckle baller is better for us.

Maybe it's the little league manager in me, but I think a guy like Wakefield is easier to hit with a little rust as oppose to facing a guy like Beckett, who is going to blow you away if you're a little rusty. If they end up going with Wakefield in Game 2, I think we'll knock him out by the 4th and Harden, more like Beckett, will blow away the rusty Sox to complete the ESPN nightmare two game Japan sweep!

At any rate, I like our chances of starting the season 2-0 with this news.

I'd rather see just about anybody on opening day but a knuckleballer

It just seems like a good way to get off on the wrong foot. And Wakefield is as baffling as anybody at times.

And Beckett is obviously unbelievable in the world series, he was not the best pitcher in the AL for the first half of last season. Maybe not even top 5.

most certainly does not mean that

we will continue to fix, improve, etc. the difference between the old SB Nation and the new one is that every time we change something on one blog, every other blog gets the same upgrade immediately now. and just because we're migrating new blogs doesn't mean we aren't still here listening to your feedback or rolling out new updates.

profile page change feedback is high on our list of things to respond to right now

I had imagined you packing your bags, driving down the I-5 and then setting off on a cross-country road rip to bring AN 3.0 to all of these other cities. Good to see you're still "in town" (or that the Internet allows you to be in all towns at once. )

When viewing our comments in our proflie page, we used to be able to see if there were any replies to our comment, not so any more. Are there plans to restore that feature? Is it doable?

Thanks!

I walked by Fresh and his tree on Monday

as UCPD was trying to get him out of the tree. Part of me really wanted to see him dump the bucket on them. And then there was the part of me that had just eaten lunch.

As far as i know, he's still in the tree. I'll check at lunchtime and see if that's still the case.

Ahhhhh, Berkeley, where there are no homeless, just people awaiting tree space.

Rocco Baldelli will be sidelined indefinitely - but is not retiring - because of what he said are "some type of metabolic and/or mitochondrial abnormalities,'' a condition that leaves him feeling extremely fatigued after just a brief workout.

I always assumed my identical experience was because I'm getting old, but now I know. Thank you Rocco for shining a light on this devastating disease. Who should we get to play the benefit concert?
