Sharks buy into Earthquakes Ownership
Interesting read from the Merc:
http://www.mercurynews.com/sharks/ci_11123589
As it relates to the A's, the most intersting tidbit was:
Could there be more down the road? Notably, Jamison referred to Wolff and John Fisher as the A's ownership group.
"From our standpoint, we're open to anything," Jamison said. "We've talked on different issues and different things."
Now whether that opens a possible window into the Southbay, if the Fremont deal folds, remains to be seen. However, I can see some future marketing impact with the Sharks splashing the Quakes / A's tidbits here and there and doing co-promotional events.
Go Shark's / A's!

Interesting
The A’s could take some tips from the Sharks business ops side about marketing and fanbase building…

You know it's funny
The A’s have actually won awards for their Advertising campaigns in recent years. You’d think that that coupled with a winning team would be enough to build a fan base, but unfortunately they did all this right after the Giants also got good and built a new stadium which is just tough to compete with.

Go Quakes too
I am very thankful to Lew for bringing them back to the South Bay. It’s a shame how Anschutz treated them, first stealing landon donovan to LA and then sending them to Houston. Yet another reason to hate socal.

Hopefully
combining forces and moving the A’s et al. off of the Bay Area Sports Network and onto their own.

No surprise here
Much of the A’s and Sharks minority ownership and San Jose people so it’s easy to see them work out a deal like this. I fully expect SVS&E to also run Cisco Field when the time comes.

Call it the SAQ network
Or, add the Warriors in and call it the SWAQ network.

That sounds way too much like the Southwestern Athletic Conference to me
[For the non-college sports people: the SWAC is routinely the worst-rated conference in Division I.]

This would have been nice
… like four years ago. Now the Houston Dynamos are one of the best teams.

They were one of the best teams when they moved too, not just now
They won the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003 and went to the playoffs in both 04 and 05, and they won the West in 05.
It would be as if the Yankees moved from New York to Las Vegas. Absolutely ridiculous. MLS and Anschutz should be ashamed. If Houston wanted a team they should have done it the right way by doing an expansion like Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC, and the future Vancouver/Seattle/St. Louis teams.

Absolutely
I couldn’t believe Houston was just handed an amazing team. Now, fast forward a few years, there’s a Houston Dynamos and there’s a San Jose Earthquakes, but Houston is the older, well-established franchise and San Jose is the crappy expansion team. I feel cheated.
