Say NO to Giambi!!!
Not sure about the rest of you, but if we decided to sign Jason Giambi I know myself and plenty of other die hard A's fans will be disgusted and will resume activities that were malicious towards Giambi if he comes back to Oakland. This includes of course all-out booing and name-calling when at the stadium, but also is not limited to: throwing more Monopoly money with Steinbrenner's face on it, throwing nickels, dimes, and quarters, hey maybe even batteries. And really anything else you can imagine that would make his time here in Oakland miserable.
Does AN really want to see this guy back in green and gold? The way he left Oakland and then went on Letterman and talked about what a trashy city it is?? This can never be forgot and we have a reputation as A's fans to uphold and not forgive a guy who slammed our beloved city on national television and abandoned a great team for what he thought were greener pastures. Also, in terms of making this team better for 2009..I am not seeing it...losing out on Furcal pretty much means that the Angels will still have a better team than Oakland next year..and why waste resources on an aging guy when we can't win? We should let Barton play and find out if he is part of the future or not.
I know myself and plenty of friends will do our best to make life for Giambi miserable if he comes back.....but what about the rest of Athletics Nation? What will you do??

Yes but he didn't have to go along with it.
I’d still take him back though.

agreed
give the guy a break. For every negative thing he’s said, he has said some equally good things about the organization. He’s paid to play baseball, if he does in fact come to Oakland and plays well, I will cheer him on like the 95% of fans who can learn to forgive and forget.
Let’s not encourage the stereotype of A’s fans.
Show some class.

No!!!!! to giambi
There is no need to show class to someone who doesn’t have any, giambi wouldn’t understand it.
He burned his bridges when he left saying how he didn’t want to leave and jump when the yanks offered more money. The price of juice must of gone up!
Play the kids! Lets see what they can or can not do. giambi will not take us to the WS.

Yeah, I was pissed too about the way he left...EIGHT YEARS ago!
But he’s a damn good player and it would be pretty cool having him and Chavy back (I know I’m being very optimistic about ol Chavvy here).
He got his boos,… I think we set a record at that first game against the Yankees in Oakland for loudest booing of all time.
He’s not really a bad guy at all and he’s certainly not a bad hitter. I’m all for him coming back. I think the fact that he has expressed a desire to come back says alot too, especcially after the way he got bood for 7 years here.
Is that Embry warming up?....... NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

but...
Oakland is a pretty trashy city though…can’t really blame the guy with going along with it too much.

A's fan from BIRTH
I have a signed memorabilia from Giambi next to those of Mcgwire, Zito, and Hudson. If he comes back I will be ecstatic. He left for the only good reason, money, and we’d all do it so shut up. As far as sentimental value and ticket sales he’s the best option on the market, oh and he’s hella good. Billy won’t over pay him SO IF GIAMBI COMES BACK IT WILL BE AWESOME!!!!!

Yes, baseballhog!
My goal is to demoralize Giambi so that he performs really badly for the team I love. That’ll show everybody!

See, I agree with your title, but I disagree with your reasoning
If he comes back to Oaktown, most people will welcome it with open arms.
Giambi has said both negative and positive about the organization, and Giambi has not burned a single bridge. He left for bigger money. So many players do that, its not even funny.

This really makes me laugh
I myself want the team to win. I would hire Jack the Ripper if he could help the team.
Giambi has not done anything near as bad as Jack the Ripper.
I know everyone has a right to their own opinions but I could care less whether he did steroids. He gets tested now and as long as he stays clean or does not get detected then so what. He took the money to go to the Yankees and while I hate the Yankees, I think most players would do so.
If he can help this team, which I think he can, then good. The past is the past.
You can do what you want at the park and throw what you want. That is your choice but if he hit a game winning home run against the Yankees of Mariano Rivera, I think you would be cheering. If you are a true fan, you would be.

Hell, I don't care if he still shoots roids....
as long as they’re the designer variety that can’t be detected yet. Oh, of course it would help if they actually boost performance.

I hope you throw stuff
So that you will be removed and the rest of us fans can enjoy the game. Hey maybe they’ll slap you with a lifetime ban, too. One can hope.
Giambi may have said some stuff on Letterman, but he’s also said a lot of good stuff about the A’s. I’m not going to debate the pros and cons of signing him, but I will say that if he’s signed there’s nothing I can do about it for better or worse so I’ll cheer him just as hard as anybody else.

Agree and Disagree
No to Giambi = agree
“resume activities that were malicious” and “make life miserable for him” = disagree
I don’t want Giambi on the team because I think he’s a jerk and I think having him again would be bad for the team’s image and reputation. I don’t think the proper response is to act like jerks ourselves and do thing bad for the team’s fans’ image and reputation.

Lets thinks, would the A's have been better off if he'd have stayed?
Me thinks no. Giambi was a great A that would have signed for a no-trade clause. I’m glad he didn’t get it. I’ll be glad to see him back.

for the record
I Didn’t actually want us to throw things at Giambi or anything, all I am saying is that I would be disgusted to see him back with us and every other A’s fan I know would also be disgusted….some going as far as saying they would not be A’s fans for those seasons he came back. Do you guys remember how we treated him when he came back in a NY uniform? And know you want to act like nothing happened? He burned his bridges with the fans when he left…..and ok we dont need to throw things….but we seriously should not cheer for this guy…..he should be booed in every at-bat. Sure if he hits a HR cheer for the team…..but boo this guy in his next at-bat.
There are plenty of baseball reasons to not sign this guy as well….which we could delve into…..but just saying this is something more on principles than baseball at this point.

Then why did you encourage things being thrown?

And do you not see a connection between that attitude/behavior
and the idea that free agents are iffy about choosing Oakland as a destination?

This type of ratinal/behavior gives all A's fans a bad rep.
I say no to Giambi simply for on field reasons that have been discussed in plenty of posts. As for his trashing of Oakland, he was pretty much spot on. Oaktown in general is the armpit of the bay area, especially around the mausoleum. How can you blame a guy for taking more money to live in a better city and play for a team with more resources to be competitive. It’ll be the same reason we loose Holliday if he isn’t traded first. We might as well start chucking obscenities and monopoly money at him. Bitterness is just unbecoming. If Giambi is signed, which i doubt will happen, I will root for him the same as any other player that plays for the A’s (maybe with the exception of Bonds).

Personally, I don't believe he needed to publicly
comment on the A’s, Oakland, or anything else negatively, and it was simply one of his non-shining moments to do so. It was also a looooong time ago, and since then he has played for NYY, grown (I believe) to regret (at least in part) leaving Oakland for New York, and has come to appreciate what Oakland has over New York. More power to him – and more power to for the A’s if they sign him.

giambi
he has suffered enough
would be nice end to his career
but is he any better/different than Cust?
by kissmya's on Dec 25, 2008 6:57 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
He makes a little more contact, but mostly
I think the appeal is that he might BE another Cust.

I think he's still better
He can make contact with the breaking pitch or at least have a good chance of doing so.
Maybe Cust and his eye excercises will help him to do so as well. I guess there is not alot between them apart from that.

Dude, you are an idiot
I don’t know if I even need to say more than that, but didn’t everyone know that Giambi was going to leave for big money that season?? Don’t call him an asshole because he does what every big time free agent does in any sport…not just baseall.
I’m not convinced he’s the FA we should be targeting this off season, but I won’t not cheer for him if he does sign with us.
