To start the wrap it up process and if you are like and need a last minute gift idea try this
Closing thought for consideration: It has been mentioned before but what about Jerry Hairston Jr. as a FA pick-up for SS?
And anyone one with any gift idea for 16-19 year old females that are not creepy (the gift ideas not the girls) I am open to suggestions.

Hey, that's actually a really good non-failbag by Urban
I think his take on Crosby, in particular, is right on the money:
I was not surprised that Crosby cleared waivers, mainly because $5.5 million is a lot of money for someone with Crosby’s track record. If you read this mailbag with any regularity, you probably know that I’m one of the few people in the Bay Area who like Crosby’s game and still think he’ll have some big years, but I’m not blind to the facts.
The facts are that Crosby has underperformed and/or been hurt a lot since his rookie year, and even his Rookie of the Year campaign was the product of a very thin year for standout rookies in the American League.
I don’t know that there’s any sort of “word out” on Crosby other than the facts. But I can tell you with certainty that he’s not a head case, so that’s not the issue. It’s a production issue, plain and simple.

What about the FAIL trade proposal that ends the Mailbag?
Holliday and Crosby for Furcal, Kershaw, and Kemp?!

I think he responded with *almost* the requisite degree of skepticism
Is it still against the CBA to trade FA signees?

that was funny!
Here’s a rumor I just heard: Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp and Furcal to the A’s for Crosby and Matt Holliday. Any way that could happen?
— Andy P., Scottsdale, Ariz.
For one thing, I’d love to hear where you heard that rumor. I haven’t seen it anywhere. Could it happen? If the Dodgers offered that deal to Beane and he didn’t take it, I’d be stunned. Kershaw is a legit top-of-the-rotation prospect, and Kemp is a 25-year-old power-hitting outfielder who bats right-handed.
So what the A’s would be getting is what they wanted in the first place (Furcal over Crosby), and more than they’d probably get for Holliday in a midseason trade or in compensatory Draft picks. No-brainer.

The slegnA might not even add ONE bat.
At least for the moment, the Angels are talking about finding offensive solutions from within. That means no Ramirez, no Adam Dunn, no Milton Bradley. Until further notice.

I am sitting one foot from a Mac SE SuperDrive that my wife and I use as a bookend
AFAIK it still works fine.
And up in a closet upstairs I have a stack of floppies with…creatively acquired software (mostly games) for an Apple II Plus.

Has anybody heard about
Jeremy Brown? Any chance he comes back next year?
What was the reason that caused him to retire?
