12/22/08 - What?! Another DLD?!
This probably won't be very basebally. Or it might. Let's see what I find as I go along, shall we?
The great thing about still living in my hometown and not really having any extended family is that I never have to travel for the holidays. But, unfortunately, that also means I'll never get to see/hear/participate in Flight Delay Karaoke. Oh well.
I'm not sure I understand the problem here:
Charles Johnson walked away from the transitional facility, located at 1580 Maple St., deputies said. The facility houses men who are preparing to re-enter the community.
I guess he was ready.
Debating the gender of fictional animals. Last Friday must have been a slow news day, too.
("...most bulls typically shed their fuzzy protrusions before Christmas." I beg your pardon?)
Okay... like the rest of MLB.com, the pages devoted to the MLB Network are too cluttered to sort out specific pieces of useful information. I'll give a prize to whoever can tell me whether RCN -- excuse me, "astound!" cable -- will be carrying MLB Network.
I haven't seen this for a while, but it occurred to me that some of the recent crop of little ANers might be getting big enough to start training for Baby Fight!
Now I'm off to the bookstore... I've finally found the perfect gift!

had a nice year and is projected to have another good one, but isnt good enough defensively and its unclear if he can handle a full season as a full time player

SANTA ANA – The 4th District Court of Appeal upheld a lower-court ruling that a Mother’s Day promotional giveaway at an Angels baseball game was not discriminatory against men and juveniles.
“We are not convinced the Angels’ tote bag giveaway was in anyway unreasonable, arbitrary, or invidious discrimination,” the court wrote. “Cohn’s complaint gathers further suspicion because Cohn, his friends, and his counsel have been involved in numerous of what have been characterized as ‘shake down’ lawsuits.”

Callis' AL Top 10
Hadn’t seen it anywhere yet but a couple of A’s near the top! Link
1. David Price, lhp, Rays
What he showed us in the postseason was just the beginning.
2. Matt Wieters, c, Orioles
He could be Mark Teixeira—as a catcher.
3. Brett Anderson, lhp, Athletics
The best player Oakland got in the package for Dan Haren.
4. Trevor Cahill, rhp, Athletics
It will be fun to watch his friendly rivalry with Anderson.
5. Neftali Feliz, rhp, Rangers
Just one reason the Braves wish they could undo their Teixeira trade.
6. Tim Beckham, ss, Rays
Yet another multitalented star-in-the-making for Tampa Bay.
7. Eric Hosmer, 1b, Royals
He could be the best of all the special hitters K.C. has drafted recently.
8. Lars Anderson, 1b, Red Sox
Even if Boston signs Teixeira, it will find room for Anderson in 2010.
9. Travis Snider, of, Blue Jays
Of these 10 guys, he might make the biggest 2009 impact in the majors.
10. Mike Moustakas, 3b, Royals
In a few years, he and Hosmer could combine for 70 homers annually.

Travis Snider!!
I’ve seen him play a lot, because he spent about a year at AA in Manchester NH. Watched him win the AA All-Star HR Derby this year. Chunky little dude (5’11" 245lbs) who can flat-out hit. He’s 20 and got called up near the end of last season, did well. He’s interesting; he lost his mom in a car accident last year, and talked openly about that, the anger problems that resulted, and his experiences with counseling, here. I thought it was really nice to see a young player talk about struggles in his personal life like that.
