Vazquez to Braves for Lillibridge (among others)
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3740201
I think this is a good trade for the Sox...
"Right-handed pitcher Javier Vazquez has been told he's headed from the Chicago White Soxto the Atlanta Braves in a deal which is likely to be finalized on Wednesday.
Vazquez is flying to Atlanta on Wednesday morning for a physical.
A baseball source told ESPN's Peter Gammons that the deal will include four other players, including reliever Boone Logan, who would also go from the White Sox to the Braves.
Among the players expected to go from Atlanta to the Chicago organization are Jo-Jo Reyes, Brett Lillibridge and another top prospect."
Thoughts?

Just about to make a FanPost
But you beat me to it. I think if anything it’s good news for us. Conceivably the Braves could still go after Peavy, but you’d have to think that getting Vazquez shows that they don’t think Peavy will happen. Which also means that Escobar isn’t going to SD and Furcal isn’t going to Atlanta. This could possibly mean the Braves are out of the running for Furcal, but this is entirely conjecture on my part.

That was actually my first thought at as well
I guess any deal that keeps Escobar in Atlanta improves the A’s chances of signing Furcal.

Unless you were hoping we'd 3-way ourselves into winding up with Escobar
Then it’s sad

And why would the Padres not want Escobar?
They are in a simular position to us; crappy SS they are trying to get rid of and replace.

I'd heard they wanted multiple pitching prospects
And Escobar is worth Cahill or Anderson and a couple more.

I didn't want to give up the farm for Escobar
And didn’t see much of a chance of us being able to acquire him in a 3-way anyway.

True, it was pure AN conjecture
But it doesn’t mean I couldn’t hope.

As far as the actual trade
It’s hard to really say untill the final Braves prospect is identified. Atlanta has a ton of good propects, whoever this “top prospect” is will sway this deal in my mind.

I think this is a fine deal for both sides. Atlanta does have good prospects. Not a bad team to try and work a deal with and I have always been a huge fan of Javy even though he sure has had his ups and downs. I really like the guy and I am happy to see him away from the White Sox. As for the other player, Boone. I am very high on Boone and what the future holds for him so I certainly will be keeping an eye on him and his progression as a pitcher

Furcal better sign soon
With the braves dropping out and the giants talking with renteria its looking like his $ demands are going down.

I'm wondering if Furcal isn't getting the four-year offers he wanted
All indications right now are of a FA market that mirrors our nation’s economy: in recession/nervous. Dunn and Burrell aren’t offered arbitration, and the Dodgers have dropped out of Furcal negotiations citing concern over the surgery/4-yr commitment – as, it would seem, have the Braves. Furcal, at last check, had not actually received an offer from the A’s and had not moved to speed up the process of signing with anyone.
Maybe neither the A’s nor the Giants – nor anyone else – is offering a four-year deal and Furcal is stalling to see if someone will budge before he agrees to sign with Oakland for three?

Why do you frequently post "This."
Do you want to be able to refer back to that particular portion of the thread at a later date?

It's somewhat "wishful inference" on my part,
but it’s a theory. Probably not actually true, but pretty consistent with everything that has happened so far.

Any word about Furcal
and talks with the A’s cooling down?
I wonder if the recession and worry has built up in Beane’s mind to pass and move to Cabrea???
I wonder if the A’s will make a minor league offer to Thomas again or are his done in Oakland??

The problem is that Cabrera pretty much sucks
I don’t think he’d hit better than Crosby playing half his games in Oakland, and his defense has always been significantly overrated.

It looks like the Giants and Renteria are close to a deal,
which would, with the Braves apparently keeping Escobar and the Dodger bowing out of the running, still suggest Furcal to Oakland.

surprise about this deal
white sox got no mlb ready pitchers…all they have in the upper minors close to decent is marquez, egbert, broadway
i wonder if A’s could pry away lillibridge w/ some of the pitching depth

The White Sox seem to think Marquez is a top 5 prospect in all of baseball the way they talk
And I’m really not exaggerating. When they got him, they gushed as if he were some sort of combination of Roger Clemens, Sandy Koufax, and Superman.
