I picked Coleman as having the best chance to one day be a starting player
but I’m intrigued by this Cennington guy.

powell for me
i just have to believe that it’s not that difficult for a professional athlete to control their weight.
beane needs to hire the diet guy some of the cubs (soto, gallagher) were using.

Coleman or Herrera?
It is a very close call. But Coleman is two years younger and plays a more valuable position. I went with Coleman.

Me too. Herrera's got better tools but he's not done much in the two extra years.
Coleman hasn’t done much in less time.

can you only add those who are already on our list
if you start putting numbers by every candidate, that’s what 50% of people will use to vote.

thats true
I also wonder if I should add (for the ones on the list/when they get on the list) a letter grade of C? for Sickels’ “others” list. Since he ends at 26 (#25 Jesus Guzman is now with the Giants, to which Sickels didnt know) with all C’s, we don’t know exactly if the ones after are C’s or C+’s.

Just don't put anything after the guys Sickels didn't rank at all
And put HM or something after the guys at the end of the Top 26 that he mentioned

I'm glad they added Daniel Thomas, who we've ignored
He was a BA Top 200 guy in this year’s draft, another draft-eligible sophomore like Coleman, supposedly has big stuff.

Powell
I think he’s going to have a couple of good seasons in the majors, though his career probably won’t be very long.

Will those seasons be as a catcher
Or does he have to switch positions because of the knees?

Can’t realistically give him much of a shot at another position at this point.

Joel Galarraga
Even if the Mexican League is more equivalent to AA than AAA, he’s still—by far—best hitting A’s prospect left. And he’s a catcher.
Probably the only guy on this list who is currently a better hitter than Galarraga is Cunningham. And that’s not even certain.

Mexican League
I’ll admit I know very little about the talent level of the Mexican League, however a quick check of their leaderboard shows that Kit Pellow, formerly seen putting up a .240/.308/.347 line over 121 ABs for Colorado back in ’04, won the MVP. His line was a ridiculous .385/.459/.730 with 34 HR in 103 games.

The same thing can be said about AA and AAA
Take a look at the retreads who led the PCL in hitting this year.
And I would guess Pellow played in one of the ridiculous hitters parks in Mexico—which is not true of Galarraga.

Do you see Galarraga having any shot at being a starting major league catcher?

Definitely
Knowing very little about his defense, I think his bat likely qualifies him as an MLB starting catcher right now.
As we discussed the other day, his BP MLE has him with a better EQA than the average catcher for each of the last 2 years.

Apparently Forst agrees. From Lockard:
“According to Forst, [A’s scout Craig] Weissman believes that Galarraga’s skills are advanced enough to start next season as high as Triple-A and he could be ready for consideration for a major league spot later this season.”

Well it is Runoff time it seems
Dustin Coleman and Cliff Pennington are tied
As they are both about 25% higher than the previous two, the winner of the runoff will be the next prospect slot, so I’ll put up both polls at once.
