Favorite Krod Moments
Now that K-Rod is officially no longer affiliated with slegna, I figured this would be an appropriate time for everyone to share their favorite K-Rod moments. It could be a story, link to a video, gif, whatever.
My favorite would have to be when he drops the ball when it gets tossed back from the catcher, letting an alert Jason Kendall able to sprint home for the win. Not just because it was an awesome ending, but because of the game it represented. Months after Hudson and Mulder were traded, I had this strange excitement for the season. Even when they were fifteen games below .500, i still believed they would turn it around. This was for every person that told me earlier that season "The A's are done." My response was always "It's a long season."
The turning point for the season was when the A's won a close game against the last place Devil Rays, in which i remember Mark Kotsay stating that they will try to work off the momentum from the win. After that game they played close to .800 ball for several months. They went from 12 games behind the angels to 7(angels were playing extremely well too) by the All-Star break. The angels got cold after the break, whereas the A's remained red hot. It wasn't long before the A's caught up and were tied for first place with the angels. The climbed so far, and finally, finally have their shot to take over first place.
Unfortunately I couldn't watch the game on television, since i had to work that day, lifeguarding at Heather Farm park in Walnut Creek. On my breaks, my co-worker and I, who was just as into the A's as i was, would listen to the game on the radio in the guard room. By the end of the game, there were four or five of us listening. Then it happened, Bill King started screaming ecstatically through the radio. We looked at each other for a second, confused, then we start jumping and hollering, even though we had no idea what had just happened, all we cared about was that the A's won. After being 15 games below .500, 12 games out of first place, the A's were now in sole possesion of first place. When i went out to guard, i couldn't stop smiling, it was at this moment i was convinced the A's would go on to win the world series(we all know how that worked out).
Now that K-rod is out of the AL west(and the league), who's going to give us our memories?

He was THE best person to win a game off
From wearing sunglasses at night like a douchebag, to him acting like a 6 year old when saving a 3 run ballgame. It was all worth being infuriated over when he blew a save, and you got to see his face.
I was in Yosemite and I remember picking up
the newspaper the next morning. I had to read the recap four or five times before I figured out what the hell had happened. I had never been so happy to get the hell out of nature’s beauty and back to my high speed internet so I could watch the play.
Children, until we have taught them better, will be perfectly happy with a seasonal round of games in which conkers succeeds hopscotch.

the bunt-thrown-down-the-RF-line from this season
1. Because the older I get, the less I can remember details of anything beyond the past 6 months
2. Because I was there
3. Because I was there in excellent seats
4. Because I was there in excellent seats courtesy of and accompanied by TheDogfather
5. Because it was the final, crowning dor-K-off against the A’s
Second on my list is the Kendall-dashing-home sulK-off.
I'll send you a postcard from Space Mountain. @('.')@
the only one i attended was when Scutaro hit the walk-off double

I was present for both the sulk off and the chopped hit down RF
the sulk off was my favorite until he threw the chopped hit (it wasn’t a bunt) into the bullpen…

One of my favorite things about that play was gameday listing it as Kendall scoring on defensive indifference !

Piazza's homer in 07
That season started out so well, and at that time I believed Piazza was in for a huge season with the A’s just like Big Frank did in 06.
I was at that game with about 12 Angels fans, sitting in that section where the ball landed
and my girlfriend and I were the only 2 with smiles on our faces after the game…

You mean this one?
August 30, 2005. It was a pitching duel between Zito and Bartolo Colon. The former pitching 9 innings of one run ball and the latter doing him one out better. K-Rod came on in relief in the 10th and finished the inning. In the 11th however, K-Rod left a hanging slider down the plate and struggling 8 batter Bobby “Ronald McDonald” Kielty crushed it to right. Huston came in to record the save in the bottom half. The A’s now lead the division by 2 games with a month to go.

during a game
krod was walking from the clubhouse down to the pen. this guy sitting a few seats down from me stands up and yells “k-rod” at the top of his voice. k-rod looks over and gives a little wave, which is when this guy yells “your ugly as shit k-rod”. pretty solid moment and it was evident that k-rod did not enjoy it.
"My group runs some frogloks down the hall to finish them off and POP! RASTER! If there was a way to scream louder than caps in EQ I was doing it. Man I am straight panicking because I know I have NO CHANCE soloing and the party has run off. I'm in my hotel room; it's like 5am, and I am straight hollering, in EQ and in real life. Bottom line is the group comes back, heals me, and kills Raster! WOOT!" -Curt Schilling on his favorite memories in the video game "EverQuest"
Meh. That's pretty classless.
I mean, I talk a lot of shit from the stands during games, but it’s kind of a dick move to get personal like that.

That almost makes me feel sorry for him.

Oh come on!
K-rod is (or should be) having lots of sex. Some drunk fool calling him ugly is hardly an insult. It’s pretty sad that he’d take it personally.

I have to say
I laughed really hard at that story.

As did I.
Classless for sure, and the guy who yelled it is pretty dickish, but if I was there, I’d be laughing for days.
Definately Kendall's moment.
I could be wrong, but I’m almost certain the A’s took over 1st place with that game. Just absolutely epic.

Not the best, I'm sure
But I remember watching a game on TV with my dad and it was in Anaheim, down by a run, K-rod in to close and Hatteberg at the plate with a runner on second. It was a really intense moment for so early in the season and Hatteberg came through with the hit that scored the tying run. I forget how the rest of the game went but that moment is still fresh in my mind.

Didn't Crosby hit one off him?
(one of his only GW hits)…maybe of Shields?

Crosby had a game winner off of him
when he was still the set up man for percival. It was an 8th inning rbi single to left if I remember correctly. And it came on the Stadium Bag giveaway day. Why don’t they have Stadium Bag giveaways anymore? Those are definitely one of my favorites, they’re so functionable.

Definitely the sulk off, followed closely by his throwing the bunted ball away this past year. Followed closely by Ronnie Mac’s HR in Anaheim.
SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES.
Yeah..I'm gonna miss hatin' on that guy...

For writing Krod, not “K-rod.” Now I can just call him Crod, not K-Rod, and not “Oh crap here he comes, and Billy McMillon’s up…”
I attended the Sulk-Off
I have to say, it was amazing to experience in person. When Chavez hit a 3 run bomb to tie it up you knew we were going to win it. Beating Krod was just icing on the cake.
Hate that guy.

I haven't been an A's fan for a long time,
so I’d have to say this is my favorite Krod moment.

I was at the "sulk off" game
I’d looked down after the pitch and the next thing I hear is a sudden roar and I look up to see Kendall dashing for the plate. Absolute mayhem afterward.
The funny thing is I ended up sitting next to a couple from England that were visiting the states and this was their first baseball game. I assured them endings like that are NOT normal.

It's hard to choose one but...
The game in which Kendall scored the winning run on K-Rod’s dropped throw from the catcher was one of my favorite games ever. Besides the crazy finish, and Chavez’s clutch three-run homer that got the A’s back in the game, it was the first game my daughter really got into. Prior to that, all she cared about was Stomper, cotton candy, hot dogs, taunting Giants fans, clapping and chanting with the crowd, etc. But that afternoon, she watched the action on the field with interest. When Chavez hit the big homer, she jumped for joy and high-fived the fans sitting around us. When Kendall scampered home on K-Rod’s error, she understood what was happening and she couldn’t wait to call her grandfathers to tell them about it. I guess you could say it was the day she graduated from little kid along for the ride to card carrying A’s fan. Maybe it’s just a Dad thing but it was a big day for me.
Root for the Giants? Not even if they're playing al-Qaeda!
nothing beats Pennington's slap bunt
I watched that on TV and went crazy! That was such an amazing moment, because it was absolutely unexpected. I briefly fell in love with Pennington after that game. What’s so awesome to me is that it seemed that every single game that we won off him, was memorable…
My favorite K-Rod moment
The day he signed that contract and left the division! At least we don’t have to watch that rediculous, anger infusing celebration any more.
Otherwise it is when Bobby Kielty destroyed him with that Jack and then splayed out his ’fro. That was SWEET!
as annoying as he can be...
… can all of you really claim not to have been impressed a few years back when we were by far the best team in baseball (absence of rings aside), and K-Rod, as a september call-up, performed like a superstar through the play-offs? Back then I think I still saw the Mariners as our primary division rival, and since we didn’t face the Angels in the playoffs, i gotta admit that I enjoyed watching him that post-season. i don’t remember him acting like such an idiot as a rookie setup man.
Zito: You ever think about the space time continuum?
Huddy: Uh... no.
I was at the Sulk-Off game
and at every game I keep score, and part of that includes tracking each pitch as balls and strikes. I was sitting behind the A’s dugout on the 3rd base side, and after the pitch I looked down to mark the pitch in my book; when all of a sudden I see Kendall take off from third. I confusingly look up at the diamond, and see Krod stumbling to the ground behind the mound, and throw the ball home errant just enough for Kendall to score. This game put the A’s into first place, and was just another game in which the A’s pounded the angels bullpen, after not being able to touch the starter. But being able to once again beat the “vaunted” angels pen with a come from behind victory made things all the more enjoyable.
