Happy Thanksgiving, AN!

I wish all of you an amazing holiday, and lots of turkey, or turducken, or tofurkey, or whatever you will be eating today.

I dub this the "As an A's fan, what am I thankful for?" open thread.

I'll start. I'm thankful that we are at least trying to compete for 2009. And I'm thankful that we still have our A's in Oakland, at least for another season.

As an A's fan

I am thankful that for exactly every year that I have blown out candles on a birthday cake, there has been baseball in Oakland. I guess you could say we’ve grown up together.

I am also thankful to have watched the A’s with five generations of family: my grandparents, my parents, my brothers and sisters, my son, and my great-nephews.

Happy ThANksgiving, everyone.

I'm here to talk about the past.

I'm thankful for this great community!

Long time lurker, rare poster, but I feel like I know many of you. Thanks for all of your time, energy, thoughtfulness, respectfulness, insight, and caring for this team. Who knows why we all care this much about “laundry,” as BB called it, but here we are, and it’s great to be in the group with folks like you. I hope you’re all having a relaxing day and not worrying too much about who ends up an A next year- take care, and thanks for all you do!

P.S. Special thanks to 67MARQUEZ for that truly immortal Rickey post. An all time great! I’m thankful for that too.

Too often

How about just the every 100 years they take “Leap Day” away? (Factoring in, of course, the every 4th one of those they give back.) Thrice every four centuries seems about right.

A most cool Thanksgiving to all

I am grateful that I found my car battery charger in a moving box today since I left my lights on last night. Looking forward to that grilled turkey drumstick eaten over the sink later on.

I just returned from visiting my dad....

Though it wasn’t a planned event. He had to undergo an emergency heart procedure yesterday. Thankfully, all went well and his heart is in better shape than originally diagnosed.

So I guess I’ll spend the rest of today being especially thankful.

I am glad that the surgery went so well.

It’s a good reminder to cherish those that we love. Our time on this earth is so limited. As for our family…we are so grateful that our Grandchild was born so healthy. Her Mom spent over a month in the hospital and a month on home rest so we were pretty worried but she was born completely healthy. Camille is a source of great joy for all of us.
I am grateful for this site. I know that when something new occurs with the A’s that all I have to do is come here to find out all (and more) that I wanted to know.
I am also grateful that Beane signed Holliday and is signing some other players. I enjoy watching a competitve team instead of the We’ll be good in X year stuff.

by IM4Oakgal on Nov 27, 2008 10:17 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It went about as well as we could have hoped for.

It started out that he had blockage in a previous by-pass as well as blockage in the other arteries. The doctor was anticipating having to crack his chest and perform a triple by-pass. Once he got in with a camera through the leg artery he found that the blockage was not as severe as he anticipated and could be rectified with medication. He was also able to open the graft without invasive surgery.

All in all, a rather mundane Thanksgiving has been transformed into a rather joyous one. He’s on his way home as I type.

I'm THANKFUL for Oakland A's baseball, for Blez who created AN where I like to read all of the great and sometimes not so great posts.

I am thankful for Billy Beane for putting together an exciting team and giving us hope for 2009 – 2014
I am thankful for Taj and grover and PaulThomas and Nico for sharing their baseball knowledge.
I am thankful that I got to see the A’s teams in the early 70’s, the late 80’s and the early 2000’s that were total winners and very exciting. For players like Catfish Hunter, Fingers, McGuire and Canseco (while he was with the A’s), Welsh and Stew (the best pitchers eyes), Hudsen, Mulder, Zito, Chavez.
I am thankful for the excitement that I know is coming in 2009 and the great surprises that are youngsters are going to show.

I am very grateful for all of you.
