What if there had always been two divisions....
in each league since 1901? Well, Brandon Isleib on the Hard Ball Times has tackled this question in two articles on the site. He works on the scheduling splits and projects the winners for each year in each division. I found the two articles interesting and hope you do too.
To read them go here and then read this page. It is interesting to see how the A's did in a two division set up.
A big thank you to my friend Steve who sent these links to me for we have had some great conversations today about them. Your thoughts?

Good stuff
Makes you wonder what an extra round would have done to some of those dynasties. I was also intrigued by how it would have affected the Black Sox scandal. Would losing to the Yankees in the ALCS been more “legit”, and perhaps kept Joe Jackson in baseball? Probably not, but nice to ponder for a moment.
It’s why the A’s winning 3 straight Series (the first team to do it with the extra round) always stood out to me and why the Yankees’ run from 1998-2001 (where they fell a blown save short of four straight with two extra rounds) may be the most impressive yet.
I'm here to talk about the past.

Glad you liked it....
Great point, it is so much harder to repeat in the present era with all the rounds of playoffs. While that doesn’t lessen the great dynasties of the past, it should magnify the achievements of those teams who have managed to repeat in the post 1969 era.
