Crosby to the Orioles?
Here is an article from mlbtraderumors.com saying that baltimore has expressed interest in Bobby Crosby.
What are your guys' thoughts?
What kind of package do you think we can expect? Crosby has underpreformed but is a former ROY and entering his physical prime in age, and maybe a change of scenery can put at him at where he was projected at the beginning of his career.
What Furcal implications does this suggest?
Thoughts?

a ham sandwich
The orioles are more concerned with his durability than his .239 average?
I’d say hold out for the turkey sandwich. And it’d be great if they paid his salary.

No, I think we could get some of that Boog Powell barbecue.

Sell short on the Turkey now
nobody want to buy turkey sandwiches with T-day around the corner – people won’t want more Turkey than they have to eat already.

Turkey's value: approx. $12.6 trillion

And just try to dump the salary.

Kotsay
I’d like to see a Kotsay like deal with the A’s pay Crosby’s salary to get a decent prospect in return.
The A’s have money to burn right now, so a new prospect is more valuable then the 5 million.
Sometimes life will strike you out on a curve ball and the only choice you have is to flip off the umpire and walk to first base anyway.

do you really think that's possible?
kotsay was a very good player, and many thought he’d be good again once he fully recovered from the surgery. crosby has sucked donkey balls for basically his entire career. even if we paid his salary, why would any team offer us anything decent in return? unless people are really convinced a change of scenery will really fix things for him. he’s certainly still got all the tools to be a star, but the mentality that suggests he’ll be a janitor. or a governor from alaska.

"He's certainly got all the tools to be a star" + 29 years old =
Someone will want him. But he’ll have to wait 55 years and then accept bribes before he can have a career in Alaska politics.

See, the flaw in that argument is that I don't think Crosby has the "tools" either

He's athletically gifted and obviously has good hand eye co-ordination
(or else he wouldn’t have got this far). He’s just as dumb as a box of crayons, or stubborn beyond belief – I don’t know which, I’ve never met the guy.
by OldhamA on Nov 22, 2008 10:47 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Ok, that is a total BS straw man argument
What are you comparing Crosby’s hand-eye coordination to? Me? You? That must be it, because I don’t think any scout or GM would think Crosby has good hand-eye coordination in relation to the rest of the talent pool.
I don’t think he’s particularly athletic, either. He doesn’t have great range, he’s not that fast (though he appears to be a pretty decent baserunner, which speaks against your “dumb as a box of crayons” argument).
I don’t think Crosby is a dumb player. I think he just isn’t very gifted. And, yes, OF COURSE he’s gifted because he’s a major leaguer. I shouldn’t even have to say that, but I do. But he’s not gifted enough.

we don't know that he's stupid or stubborn
Just that he can’t help not swinging at everything. He probably just has terrible pitch recognition skills … he wouldn’t be the first.

He has given some stuff away, though, with comments like
“My approach worked fine for me in high school, so…” Which is either stubbornness, or else just an incredibly stupid POV.

For a player of his size, he is pretty athletic ...
he’s huge for shortstops that don’t play for the Yankees/Marlins (in completely different ways) but, while his range may not be great (and may be diminishing) it at least started out pretty good.
He had just about everything that he needed to be the next Cal Ripken Jr … the one thing he was missing, unfortunately, was rather critical … the ability to reliably make wood connect with leather … that’s kind of a big deal …

Kotsay was not a "very good player"
He was a little bit above average player. And he’s in his thirties and I don’t know who thought he’d be good again. And, you know, he wasn’t good again. He’s not very good defensively and he had a very meh season.

Kotsay's still average defensively at CF.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
by Blicks on Nov 22, 2008 1:08 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Which, when coupled with "smart, fundamentally sound"
probably still makes him an above average force in CF.

I think the smart, and fundamentally sound are the only reasons he might still
be average in CF. It’s not his blinding speed.

Could be - I didn't see enough of him to say
From the little I saw, he looked pretty damn solid, like a slightly slower version of the 2005-06 Kotsay we knew and loved.

I was referring to post-injury Kotsay
And I’m not sure being “fundamentally sound” makes him above average when he’s an average fielder for position and a below average hitter. The best thing about Kotsay right now is his wife.
