OT: Harrington Traded to Knicks
The Warriors pick up Jamal Crawford from the Knicks in a swap for Al Harrington. I like the deal. What do you guys think? The Warriors have drafted two clones of Harrington in the last two years (well one in a trade pick and then the draft last year) so it makes him a little more expendable. Crawford is an up tempo guy who is a play maker. It will make the Warriors pretty exciting to watch.

As a Bulls fan who suffered through Jamal Crawford for a few years
Sorry, Warriors fans.
Jamal Crawford sucks. He’s absolutely awful. If you like a guy who will keep the ball, dribble it for 20 seconds, and then shoot a random 30 footer on a regular basis, he’s your guy.
Friends of mine and I call it the “Jamal shot.” It’s the ill-conceived three pointer from waaaay deep that is usually reserved for end-of-quarter situations. Not for Jamal. Jamal shoots it when Jamal wants.
He’s not a play maker, unless you mean the plays he wants to make for himself. Crawford might be the most selfish player the Bulls have had in the past decade, and they had Eddie Robinson, Jalen Rose, and now Larry Hughes. Crawford basically has one skill, shooting, and he’s not afraid to do it every single time he touches the ball if you let him.

I think...
…that OT or not, this would be better on Golden State of Mind.

I don't think there's anything wrong with these`
Lots of good blogs do that. You want to find out what your readership thinks about a different topic. AN gets a ton of traffic and has a lot of intelligent people, and it’s a good resource to do that.
It’s clear in the heading what the topic is. If people want to avoid it, they can.

I hear you there
My only concern is eventually having things that are more OT than on-topic. Then again, it is the offseason for baseball.

What are their respective contracts?
I’m sure that factored into the trade discussions. The Knicks have a ton of desire to move long-term contracts to make a potential run at LeBron in FA after ’10.

That is 100% the reason
Al has an option for next year at $10, but he comes off the books for the 2010 Summer when Bron is an FA. Craw would have on the books until 10-11.
They just unloaded Randolph too who was on the books for $17 in 2010-11. Looks like they are clearing early to go huge after Bron.

Yeah, absolutely.
Of course, at this point it doesn’t look like they’ll have very much useful for LeBron to work with. They’ll have the money to sign him, but so will other teams who will be much closer to a championship at the time.

No doubt there...
Although from all accounts, it appears as if they are clearing space for Lebron to come with Bosh or Amare in 2010 also.

I don't understand the trade for either side
The Knicks add ANOTHER forward, the Warriors add ANOTHER guard.
The trade is more absurd for the Knicks, however, as Crawford was their leading scorer. Harrington hadn’t played much for the Warriors this season.
Also, this allows Jackson & Maggette to return to their natural positions. This will be interesting once Monte returns: push for the playoffs!

On the subject of the Knicks
Mike D’Antoni, wow. Taking a pretty good step toward Coach of the Year thus far.
I love seeing a guy step in and doing something that he knows is right, even if it offends people.
D’Antoni’s playing the best seven dudes 35+ minutes a game, and he’s winning. No bullshit. He’s not playing Marbury, regardless of the contract, and he’s winning games. Awesome.

blah
Not a Crawford fan. In fact he seems like exactly the kind of player who would be very dangerous (in a bad way) in Nellie’s scheme – a low percentage volume shooter, as if we don’t have enough shoot-first guards.

What I don't like is that the Warriors are pushing hard for mediocrity
This trade signals to me that they are pushing hard to be that 8th team (or 7th, but a low see nonetheless) in the playoffs. It’s not that they WANT to be that low, but because there are so many better teams than them, they have to try hard just to MAKE the playoffs. My concern is that they are turning into the Royals of the NBA (if baseball had a 16 team playoff format, that is) in that they are adding around the margins, but only pushing themselves towards .500/low playoff seed, not an actual championship contender. If the front offices goal isn’t to win championships, but to just be in the playoffs, then that kinda sucks. When Monta comes back, they will be better, but does anyone really think that this team is going to beat out the Lakers, Rockets, Hornets, or Jazz in the playoffs? Not I. The only caveat I can think of is that the Warriors get extra revenue by making the playoffs (I don’t know if this is true, but it would be a reason), thereby giving them incentive to just make the playoffs.

When have the Royals...
Made the playoffs? Not a very good comparison. Besides, its a good trade since we dont have to have CJ Watson who is the Jack Hannahan of the Warriors, playing 40 minutes a game anymore.

well, like i said, if baseball playoffs were like NBA playoffs (from 8 teams in to 16 teams in), the royals would contend for a playoff spot.
The Royals have been improving around the margins, adding possibly a few wins to next year, but not really having a serious long term goal. Great, they are going to be around .500 next year, but they aren’t going to have serious upside, like the Rays did this past year. The verdict is out on this trade until we see how Crawford plays in The Arena, but my guess is that he won’t make too much difference.

Being in that middle-ground is death in the NBA
Getting a series of #15 picks is a good way to continue being mediocre for a long time. I’m worried that the Bulls are going to be in that same boat. They have one great player, a couple good players, and a bunch of garbage. In the East, that’s a .500 record and the 7th seed. Whoopie.

Improving around the margins ... if it doesn't hurt in the medium/long term ... is smart strategy ...
The Ws weren’t going to be players in the top tier of free agency in 2010 anyway, so the move doesn’t have any real negative connotations ….

Crawford has experience at point
but he’s no natural distributor, I have seen him score some damn points, though, and if after all anthony morrow turns out not to be the greatest free agent of all time the warriors need some scoring. He doesn’t really strike me as a nelson-type guy, though – isn;t he a bit thin-skinned?

Calling Jamal Crawford a point guard is like calling Ken Griffey Jr. (2008 version) a center fielder
Yeah, the guy can play the position, but he can’t really play the position.

One thing is clear
Anthony Randolph may be pretty raw and inconsistent, but the kid’s got some really nice skills.
