Cisco Field still on track despite economy
Lew Wolff, the A's managing partner, spoke today to the AP about the status of Cisco Field. It appears the Fremont election going the A's way did put a little vigor back in the stadium plans. Also appears that 32,000 seats is the likely size now. And most importantly it appears the project is still on track for the 2012 opening.
Also of interest is that San Jose is still off the table with the Giants new owners so MacGowan leaving didn't change anything with the Giants territorial rights. And the A's ownership has ruled out Sacramento as an option if Fremont doesn't work out.

Wish he provided more detail
on why Sacramento is “probably” not an option. It’s not like he has a better one if the Bay area fails.

He might think Oakland or contraction are better.
Or Portland or Mexico City or Brooklyn. Or he might be bluffing.

I don't know he seemed pretty specific
It’s the Rivercats. Doesn’t want to usurp the work of their top minor league team which has done amazing work in that town.

Looks like the stadium funding is also no longer completely tied to the housing development in light of the new reality of the economy.
Seriously,
What? Are the regulatory agencies suddenly going to insist that the banks actually have cash to lend before they make loans? Novel approach.

Who said it's a loan?
Though I assume you’re probably right, they still haven’t indicated what the alternate funding source is.

I have no idea how Lew intends to
fund the project. I have seen articles where he hints at alternative sources. I assume he has fiscal reasons for playing his cards close to the vest. I suppose his verbiage would lend itself to speculation, but it would have to come from people with far more fiscal savvy than I possess.

True
He has played everything close to the vest since day one. But in the region can you blame him. We’re not exactly a “stadium friendly” region. Publicly or privately financed. It’s a small wonder we have any teams at all.
