Eck the Broadcaster (interview)
Dennis Eckersley hates when you call his hairstyle a mullet
Dennis Eckersley still has a closer's mentality. When you sit down and talk to him it's easy to see why TBS hired the Hall of Fame pitcher to be an analyst. Eck had no fear on the mound and now he has no fear when it comes to offering up an opinion — from the Rays to his long hair — as I found out last Friday during my behind-the-scenes look at TBS' Inside MLB studios in Atlanta.
This is the first interview in a set of Q & A's with the show's personalities.

Almost ashamed to say
But my man-crush of Eck lives on.
So many memories. He’d come into a game and you grabbed your coat.
I'm here to talk about the past.

This might be blasphemy around here
But he’s pretty terrible on the TBS pre-game. Actually, that entire pre- and post-game is bad and I blame everybody but Ernie Johnson.

They should bring in Barkeley and Smith to do the MLB games too
Man that would be hilarious

Eck works for the Red Sox on NESN, he does pre and postgame
I don’t see him leaving that gig anytime soon.
McGwire belongs in the Hall so put him there

Have to disagree with you thejd44
I recall when Eck tried to be an analyst for the A’s about 7 or 8 years ago. He was really bad then. But he has really improved and in my opinion was really quite good. Kinda too bad we don’t get to enjoy him on a regular basis. Plus he lives in Boston, so he ain’t leaving NESN anytime soon.

Well, I think the TNT NBA show is the best of its kind in all of sports
And it’s really not even close. I would’ve expected a lot better from the TBS baseball show based on that (and because Ernie Johnson is top-notch). I find that Eck and Ripken just don’t say much that’s entertaining.

The A's should
steal eck away from NESN.
1) who wouldn’t rather live in the bay than boston
2) eck is an A, no question
3) our current broadcasters suck on the TV side, throw eck in on color
4) maybe would help us dent into the giants monopoly on bay area sports media

NESN probably has something like 4 times the viewereship of A's games ...
ain’t happening. Period.

Don't get mad at me for being stupid...
But isn’t Chris Singleton on ESPN too? Didn’t he used to play for the A’s?
Oh, and I agree with MaineAthletic: We should steal Eck. We could use him.

Singleton joined ESPN this year after spending last season as the White Sox radio color analyst
And, quite frankly, he wasn’t very good at it.
