Barry Zito
Just wondered if anyone has caught any of the drama going on with KNBR and Ztio. There is a podcast posted on knbr.com with Zito and Radnich. If you listen to the podcast I had noticed a few things.
Zito caught Radnich off guard when he called. Zito called after the show and Radnich told Zito that the stock market crashed. Randich kept telling Zito that the market crashed and Zito didn't say anything. You didn't hear Zito say, that is too bad, or that is a shame. It just seems that Zito is in love with himself , guitar, and his curve ball.
Zito says that he doesn't care what people say about him, however he calls a radio show and wants to think Radnich called Zito evil. That was a bunch of nonsense.

I haven't paid attention to any of it.
But I just listened to the clip, and this is hilarious.
I’m pretty sure most Giants fans don’t share my sentiments though.

KNBR
Just go to www.knbr.com
I love how Zito says that he doesn’t care what anyone says, but he does. You can tell he is so jealous of Lineucm.

That would strongly depend on how many of the 126 millions reason he has invested in the stock market

If I had 126 million
I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t feel the need to invest in anything but a lot of garbage bags to hold all that cash.

for 126 million I'd buy the Giants a slugger or two
so that my run support (and therefore wins) would go up. Then at least I could point to my win-loss record as an argument against my suckiness.

Unbelievable Quotes
Start with “Butterknife”— BZ’s reference to Ralph “the Razor” Barbieri— I had never heard this one before— it sounds like what all the jocks must call him. Love it.
“I’m fully entitled to be in love with myself as much as possible”
“I’m falling in love with myself”
“I’ve been to the depths of hell”— followed by a comment about being relegated to the bullpen last year
“I have new muscles that are bigger and stronger because of my pain”— presumably in his brain and heart
“I love the way my brain operates”
Hate to say this was once my favorite ballplayer. yes he’s smart, but pitifully self-absorbed and, frankly, naive about his contract and the way that changed his status.
and he compared himself to Lincoln at one point
I guess Jesus and gandhi were already taken

Yeah, but they took his license so now he can't drive.

and it was all an act
with the yoga, silk pillows, surfer, carefree image..he was playing it up for espn and that persona stuck…good riddens…didnt he say when he went to giants was for championships…lol nice try
though he makes something like 200,000 a game so i doubt he cares much what anyone else thinks of him
I heard that...unbelievable
he must have been high to say those things.

Radnich and Zito both sound like idiots.
I’d read about this, but hadn’t listened to it. I never thought of Z like this. He sounds like a real jerk. He needs to get over himself.
Sad. I always liked Z. He wasn’t my favorite, but I thought he was a good guy (although a little kooky). Now—pretty sure he’s gone crazy.
ya, i'm pretty sure the love i had for zito is now gone.

Since Day 1, Zito was my favorite Athletic...
But as I’m listening to that stuff, all I’m thinking is… “What?!” O_o
at times i thought he came off a bit selfish..but hell, he admit he was and there were times it sounded like he smoked too much but I don’t find this as bad as most. I think he got caught up in the moment and things came out that he maybe shouldn’t have said..or should have said differently. I don’t think there is anything wrong with loving yourself..or looking after yourself. I think you do have to love yourself because if you don’t love who you are…well, problems can happen. I was unhappy about myself for a good long while and I had 0 confidence and that led to a 5+ yr battle with an eating disorder that landed me in the hospital..so with that, the part about him falling inlove with himself, I really do think people are twisting his meaning behind it and making it sound like it’s an arrogant thing…when it’s not meant to be that way. I agree that he isn’t the same kooky Zito he used to be…but things changed and baseball player or not..rich or not..he has struggled like anyone else….like his moms past health issues ect.
So while I don’t agree with everything he said and I do think he has changed..I just think I will be the one person who views some of his comments differently then most others will and I still like him
Zito is an Ayn Rand devotee
what he said in this and other interviews is very consistent with her writings. (see for example The Virtue of Selfishness.)
Then it's too bad for him that he's become so Objectively mediocre

I'm going to agree with you.
First off all, it obviously wasn’t a scripted interview. So sometimes you spout (like the Lincoln reference), but not every word should be taken literally. He admits to not interpreting completely what his salary meant, and, well, why can’t that be true? Barry hit the lotto with that contract, and maybe he was a little too naiive to understand its impact, or maybe it just didn’t sink in all the way.
If anything Barry appears to care too much, yes about himself, but also about the perecption that others have of him. The reference to the bullpen being his personal hell is something that a lot of athletes talk about in discussing their struggles (usually after they’ve overcome them). And it at least seems that he’s ready to be himself again and just pitch.
I honestly saw nothing wrong with this interview. If anything, I wanted to stuff a sock in Radnich’s mouth.
I'm here to talk about the past.
ok, I am glad I am not the only one who wasn’t put off with this interview and looked at it all in a totally negative light :)

Everybody should want to stuff a sock in Radnich's mouth
He, along with Barbieri and Tolbert (a slegnA fan, no less) make their respective time slots on KNBR completely unlistenable.

I mean seriously.
It’s been forever since I have listented to talk radio (or whatever they call it) but I was thinking, “OK, who is more about himself, Zito or Radnich?”.
“Barry, I just want to clarify…from 9-12”…
Shut up already.
I'm here to talk about the past.
I like Tolbert...
…and while Ralph is a contemptible creature, I’ve gotten used to him over the years. But, I still cannot stand Radnich.

Zito has lost it in every facet of his life.
Eveland rocks! Eveland rocks! Somewhere Drew Carey just smiled.
Zito had a choice
He could have gone more like the Dave Chappelle route and said “Money…no thanks. I prefer to not stand on top of cars butt-naked in Hollywood.”
I love Dave and miss his show…but I can understand taking the route with less money for a better quality of life.
My friends recently moved to the Lake Tahoe region, took equivalent jobs at lower pay, and never have to ride another crowded BART train or sit in traffic again (more or less). I was at first angry (because I miss them) but now I totally understand and even wish I could do the same.
Instead, Zito and most others in baseball and in life, took the money. Now Barry doesn’t want what comes with it.
Tough $h!7.
Two-thirds of the earth is covered by water, the other third is covered by Kotsay...in his prime...like 3 years ago.
And even if he had taken less money
he would still have to face the criticism he’s facing. In fact, depending which team he signed with he might have to take even more crap. The Mets, for example, gave him an offer that topped out at around ~70M. If he had signed that deal, he would be slaughtered in NYC.
ZIPS: Milledge: 466 HR, 485 2B, 2282 hits, 278-379-524
I agree...my take on Barry is that he doesn't want the negative
attention at all…but that comes with being a millionare big league baseball player who used to be great.
he just wants “to be in love with himself.”
Also, I think Gary’s an idiot too but he never played for the A’s

FInally someone gets it
I listened and didn’t think Zito was negative at all. In fact the part that many people posted above about him loving himself is the most important thing he has to do. If you don’t love yourself you can’t love anyone or anything else.
It sounds like a lot of people are putting him down because someone decided to pay him $126 million and that he is actually very intelligent.
I heard that he basically is working on himself to better himself and that baseball is his dream right now and has been most of his life but like all of us here we have more than just our job that we enjoy doing.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
thank you for posting that. I am so happy to see there are a couple of other people who didn’t take a negative view on Barry after hearing that interview. :)

He's have it MUCH worse in NYC, regardless of the money
Especially if the Zito signing had barred the Johan signing before this season.
Regardless of the monetary difference.

Another thing
It seems that Barry watches a lot of professional wresting. I think Zito in love with the showmanship of wrestlers. Listening to his interview, how he was the Tim Linceucm seven years ago and how many women wanted to marry him.
Remember when I won Wreslemania seven years ago. I was the Rock seven years ago.
