DFA now just FA
C-c-c-can it be? EMIL BROWN FILES FOR FREE AGENCY
I thought I'd have more to say on this subject but surprisingly I'm at a loss for words. I was really hoping Forst or Beane would come out and say "You don't file for free agency because I DFA you!" but there was no such luck. Seemed like a nice guy at FanFest this past year and started off pretty well for us (not counting his baserunning in Japan) but obviously tailed off quickly and then turned into a grouch. Oh well...
Now for the sobering numbers:
All told, he batted .244 with 13 homers, 59 RBIs and a .297 on-base percentage in 117 games.
So long DFA, we hardly knew ye.
Also in that link is the fact that time is counting for the A's to decide on Alan Embree's fate. My fingers are crossed that he'll be bought out and shown the door. There's no need for a guy who can't get outs on this staff any more, especially at that price.
Update alert: Embree Declined. This probably means the end of the aged one, and for some reason we claimed a 33-year old "hitter" from Miluakee. Hooray! Offensive troubles cured!

Felipe Lopez intrigues me -
His HR totals in the majors (2001-08) go: 5, 8, 2, 7, 23, 11, 9, 6. What’s up with the 23? Do I want to know?
Also, this year with Washington (100 games) he hit .234 and slugged .314. With St. Louis (43 games) he hit .385 and slugged .538. Hello.

Thank you for explaining.
I was racking my brain. (How DOES one rack his own brain?).
Now that it’s become clear, I chuckled, however belatedly.

I looked it up!!
Rack: a cause or state of intense suffering of body or mind, or a pair of antlers…
So I guess you just make your brain suffer, or dress it up with a pair of antlers. Interesting…
does that answer your question? Xp

Nice job
Do you do windows? (not the computer kind)
BTW, there are other racks: a bat rack, to name one. And, well, I’ll just stop there.

I know there are other ones, but I kinda wanted to avoid a CGV.
and what do you mean windows?

depends. where do you live, and how much do you pay?
I charge 1million an hour. is that within your budget? or you can pay in A’s memorablia. Mark Ellis stuff is worth more. :)

ok... that's a little closer to 1million!
you’re lucky though! I was going to go to that day, but I was TOO busy. I was too busy to even sleep for about a month, much less go to a game!
hmm… for the bobblehead, I’l be generous; I’ll clean one square inch of one of your windows.

but I don’t think 67 was trying to turn his size B brain into a C or D…

And this
is a link to the “top 50” as determined by SI.
Apparently we should sign Giambi and Pudge (???) while the Angels sign K-Rod and Dunn. If Dunn gets signed by Anaheim, I will be a very saaaaad panda.

Does Pudge actually have any above-replacement value anymore?
Wouldn’t he have to throw out like 650 runners or something to be useful at this point?

i didn't say sign him! dear lord no...i'd rather pay a lot less for a crappier backup
because, after all, we do have Zooks who doesn’t take a whole heck of a lot of time off. Signing Pudge would be an unbelievable waste of money. Not only are we wasting money, but that’s bound to make him upset that he’s getting very little playing time. Bad situation all around. Just keep Bowen or bring up Powell or something.

The list in general looks kind of lazy..
20% of the players are just “Oh, I think they’ll go back to their old team!” Mark Grudzielanek and Edgar Renteria back to the Cardinals? Griffey back to the Mariners? Giambi back to Oakland?
