With AssJack on the Sox, no way should any AN’er be pulling for them.

Absolutely true

We’ll see next round, but hopefully AssJack and company will be watching with us.

Question: Would anyone here trade Ryan Sweeney for Nick Swisher?

I know I sure as hell would. Wonder if Kenny W would?

certain people were not into the idea. apparently swisher isn’t cute enough.

Pena update

Rays first baseman Carlos Pena left the game with what the team called “slightly blurred vision in his left eye” after scratching it at his home last night. A team spokesman said the injury is not considered serious and he is expected to play in Game 2 tomorrow.

Memo to Carlos Pena: Don’t use that new woodchipper without goggles again until after season. (I’m kidding. I have no idea how he scratched his eye).

Counsell’s batting stance bugs me so much and I’m not really sure why other than that it looks funny. I don’t understand how people develop really unique stances. Like, when in their lives do they think “I’m going to try this way, it’s more comfortable” and then they end up hitting better? Seems so strange to me haha

I've also been waiting for Dodgers-Cubs

just checking in on Philadelphia occasionally. One thing about all those A’s Division Series appearances earlier in the decade, they were all outstanding series from the competitive standpoint and there was rarely even a dull game. This series seems like a real snoozer, kind of like the times the Rangers played the Yankees in the late ’90’s.

by Soaker on Oct 2, 2008 6:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Sadly, they only got really exciting

after we took 2-0 leads. Granted, they were plenty exciting to us up to that point.

I'm here to talk about the past.

by 67MARQUEZ on Oct 2, 2008 6:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmmm, not sure I agree

In 2000 and 2002 the first two games were split.

2001, the first two games had the whole “postseason at Yankee Stadium after 9/11” atmosphere.

2003 included the bunt-off in the first game. That was about as good a game as any baseball fan could ask for.

by Soaker on Oct 2, 2008 6:13 PM PDT up reply actions

That's what I get for writing before thinking

I was at Games 1 and 2 of the 2000 ALDS and I don’t recall anything terribly exciting about them (speaking only about the games, and from an objective point of view)

By contrast, the first two games of 2001 were pretty exciting, and not just for the 9/11 effect (though it helped).

Game 1 of the 2002 ALDS was a sloppy mess (and so I was I – drunk with too much sun), and Game 2 a 9-1 laugher.

Yes, the walk-off bunt was a beauty, but Game 2 was dominated by Zito (exciting for us).

I'm here to talk about the past.

by 67MARQUEZ on Oct 2, 2008 6:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Also being objective here

2000 had the story line of the who-the-hell-are-the-Green-and-Gold guys competing with the two-time defending World Champions from the Evil Empire. For non-A’s fans, the 2000 A’s had a little bit of 2008 Rays in them.

Yes, the 2002 ALDS was ugly, but you sensed that the teams were evenly matched, and it did come down to the last pitch.

I think the only real ALDS stinker for the impartial fan was the 2006 series vs. the Twins. Once the A’s beat Santana, it seemed like all the air came out of the Twins.

by Soaker on Oct 2, 2008 6:29 PM PDT up reply actions

I can agree with you on that

On all accounts.

We cared the shit out of the Yankees two years in a row. Damn shame we couldn’t close one of them (or both). A part of me feels like that impacted the 2002 and 03 series more than we care to admit.

OK...here goes

Cowboy walks into a bar and asks for a shot of whiskey.
He spots a Mexican at the end of the bar. Lifts his glass towards him and says, “TGIF.”
Mexican orders a shot of tequila, lifts his glass, and says, “SPIT.”
Cowboy is puzzled. Orders another shot of whiskey, and says, louder, “T-G-I-F, compadre!”
Mexican orders another shot of tequila: “S-P-I-T!”
Cowboy, with yet another shot of whiskey: “T-G-I-F. That’s Thank God it’s Friday, friend!”
Mexican gets another shot of tequila, wolfs it down and says, “S-P-I-T. Stupid pendejo, it’s Thursday!”

why is it that no one ever tries to plug the curse of Johnny Evers?

We get to hear years about a stupid goat not getting allowed into a stadium, and even more about Babe Ruth being pissed for getting sold to where he could win a bunch of World Series, but here is a case where I guy must have either sold his soul to the devil or angered the baseball gods by making an ump make a techincally correct call (Merkle’s boner), the Cubs then go on a 100 year drought, but no one mentions it???
