With AssJack on the Sox, no way should any AN’er be pulling for them.

Absolutely true
We’ll see next round, but hopefully AssJack and company will be watching with us.

Question: Would anyone here trade Ryan Sweeney for Nick Swisher?
I know I sure as hell would. Wonder if Kenny W would?

i brought it up a few days ago
certain people were not into the idea. apparently swisher isn’t cute enough.

It's very strange
that Swisher went from a pitcher’s park to a hitter’s park and saw all of his stats take such a plunge.

Pena update
Rays first baseman Carlos Pena left the game with what the team called “slightly blurred vision in his left eye” after scratching it at his home last night. A team spokesman said the injury is not considered serious and he is expected to play in Game 2 tomorrow.
Memo to Carlos Pena: Don’t use that new woodchipper without goggles again until after season. (I’m kidding. I have no idea how he scratched his eye).

I am so excited at least one of my teams is in the playoffs. I love the Rays. great game :) I had to watch the first part at the gym and it was so hard not to throw my arms up and cheer on the elliptical. the person next to me was a little bit scared for my mental health. luckily I watched innings 4-9 at home where I could be as insane as I wanted to be without feeling judged ;) my boy Kazzy is pitching tomorrow. I can’t wait. years of rooting for these lovable losers and it’s finally paying off! but I’m torn between being excited by the new fans and being annoyed by the bandwagoners. ah well :\

Counsell’s batting stance bugs me so much and I’m not really sure why other than that it looks funny. I don’t understand how people develop really unique stances. Like, when in their lives do they think “I’m going to try this way, it’s more comfortable” and then they end up hitting better? Seems so strange to me haha

So, bring on Bonds! Or, not... then, bring back Langerhans!! -One won lost one
I've also been waiting for Dodgers-Cubs
just checking in on Philadelphia occasionally. One thing about all those A’s Division Series appearances earlier in the decade, they were all outstanding series from the competitive standpoint and there was rarely even a dull game. This series seems like a real snoozer, kind of like the times the Rangers played the Yankees in the late ’90’s.
Sadly, they only got really exciting
after we took 2-0 leads. Granted, they were plenty exciting to us up to that point.
I'm here to talk about the past.
Hmmm, not sure I agree
In 2000 and 2002 the first two games were split.
2001, the first two games had the whole “postseason at Yankee Stadium after 9/11” atmosphere.
2003 included the bunt-off in the first game. That was about as good a game as any baseball fan could ask for.
That's what I get for writing before thinking
I was at Games 1 and 2 of the 2000 ALDS and I don’t recall anything terribly exciting about them (speaking only about the games, and from an objective point of view)
By contrast, the first two games of 2001 were pretty exciting, and not just for the 9/11 effect (though it helped).
Game 1 of the 2002 ALDS was a sloppy mess (and so I was I – drunk with too much sun), and Game 2 a 9-1 laugher.
Yes, the walk-off bunt was a beauty, but Game 2 was dominated by Zito (exciting for us).
I'm here to talk about the past.
Also being objective here
2000 had the story line of the who-the-hell-are-the-Green-and-Gold guys competing with the two-time defending World Champions from the Evil Empire. For non-A’s fans, the 2000 A’s had a little bit of 2008 Rays in them.
Yes, the 2002 ALDS was ugly, but you sensed that the teams were evenly matched, and it did come down to the last pitch.
I think the only real ALDS stinker for the impartial fan was the 2006 series vs. the Twins. Once the A’s beat Santana, it seemed like all the air came out of the Twins.
I can agree with you on that
On all accounts.
We cared the shit out of the Yankees two years in a row. Damn shame we couldn’t close one of them (or both). A part of me feels like that impacted the 2002 and 03 series more than we care to admit.
I'm here to talk about the past.
yes, i thought so too on my "good days" when I
was recovering after those two series over the years…..with the Byrnes – Tejada fiasco sending me over the edge.

Mexican orders a shot of tequila, lifts his glass, and says, “SPIT.”
Cowboy is puzzled. Orders another shot of whiskey, and says, louder, “T-G-I-F, compadre!”
Mexican orders another shot of tequila: “S-P-I-T!”
Cowboy, with yet another shot of whiskey: “T-G-I-F. That’s Thank God it’s Friday, friend!”
Mexican gets another shot of tequila, wolfs it down and says, “S-P-I-T. Stupid pendejo, it’s Thursday!”
I'm here to talk about the past.
now that brings back memories
I loved me some Winchell’s at like 3 in the morning after a long night out.
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
You know
why is it that no one ever tries to plug the curse of Johnny Evers?
We get to hear years about a stupid goat not getting allowed into a stadium, and even more about Babe Ruth being pissed for getting sold to where he could win a bunch of World Series, but here is a case where I guy must have either sold his soul to the devil or angered the baseball gods by making an ump make a techincally correct call (Merkle’s boner), the Cubs then go on a 100 year drought, but no one mentions it???
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
JFE, man
Johnny Fucking Evers
Seriously though. That doesn’t get enough action. Or any action. Huh, like me.
I'm here to talk about the past.
And you would think
boners would get all the action they need…
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
I think it was his name.
Girls could not fathom saying, “Oh yes, Merkle!”
I'm here to talk about the past.
Can you blame them?
Dude couldnt even get to second base!
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
Hey, we got mentioned!
Of course, it made me want to throw a bottle into my TV, but we got mentioned…
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
If I heard them right
the last team to come back from a 2-0 hole in the division series was the Yankees in ’01.
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
Hey it was painful for me too.
I was at game 5 with my brother Ernie. We ended up doing shots of Jack Daniels at a bar called the Whiskey River Saloon afterward.
I'm here to talk about the past.
Last team to lose first two AT HOME
and win the series. maybe?
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
If they had mentioned Gibson, I would have just shut off the TV and wept.
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
If the Dodgers make the Series
Get ready for a flood of Gibson highlights. Or the same one. Over and over and over.
I'm here to talk about the past.
2 good friends at work are Dodger fans
I will get to hear it non-stop.
"Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it?"-Steve McCatty
Man. If/when the Cubs go down 2-0
we’ll be hearing all about the teams that have come back from 2-0 deficits. Not happy memories.
The rest of my comment said "sigh"
but it disappeared. I keep forgetting New AN doesn’t like one-word comments.
Er, I should have said one-word "messages"
or whatever you call the non-bolded part that I’m typing right now.
Fine!
What it really hates is when you write something as the subject and then only have one word in the message section. I’m telling the truth, I promise.
Do you type the subject
hit preview, then type the comment?
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
Mine DOESN'T work when I type the subject
preview, then add a comment. I thought that was what you were doing.
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
What I'm doing now
is typing the subject, hitting preview, typing the comment (not previewing) and hitting post.
What I was doing before—typing the subject and comment, and the comment part didn’t post with or without previewing first.
I have no idea what’s going on.
will walk off the mound in the 3rd inning accompanied by the Cubs' trainer
(I don’t wish ill on him or anything, just seems like the way the Cubs are going, that’s the likely outcome.)

Lou Piniella WTF
Howry shouldn’t be on the playoff roster over Gaudin, and it really isn’t a good idea to use your best set up man with a 6 run deficit.
Why isn’t Howry pitching today?
Now with 100% more Canuck.
Lord Almighty, I had forgotten how bad Dick Stockton is

I lie in bed at night
wondering how many people know the difference between “lay” and “lie.”
[/grammar snob]
I always hated that one.
My ex used to lie in bed at night, too.
“Did you?”
“Yes, babe. G’ night.”

It ate the rest of my comment!
“The guy sitting next to Melonhead is suicidal.”
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
I saw it the first time.
And now I just saw Melonhead and friend. Yes, suicidal is a good description.
Edmonds would've caught that - about 5 years ago
Now – FAIL

I liked the one before that too.
The one with Austin and the big, crazy guy that won.
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
Last season was pretty good. Who were your favorite designers?

CC Sabathia sucked today
ESPN morons will talk about the 2007 ALCS and how CC was a major part of the Tribe’s “choke job”.

Oof
The Cubs are really quite awful on defense tonight.

Instead of "that's what she said,"
AN has substituted “that’s what Ryan said” or “that’s what Dale said,” referring to Ryan Sweeney and Daric Barton, and their BFF-ness. Hence: TWDS and TWRS.
Oh, okay. Thanks. I'm king of dingy
