The unicorn to stay?
According to Susan Slusser Mark Ellis is to re-sign!
Unlike many of the team's prominent free agents in recent years, Mark Ellis will be staying in Oakland. The second baseman is set to sign a multiyear deal with the A's, and an announcement is expected in the next day or two.
It will be interesting to see the size/length of the contract and the impact it might have on the A's prospects particularly Cardenas

I just read this at ESPN
Looks like we get ellis back. THis is huge, being that it would be a huge black hole next year. i wonder what we are going to do with all the 2b prospects we have been piling up?
"If people don't know who he is, they'd better turn on the television and check him out."
get rid of them somehow?
or convert them to different positions?
We're in a team-wide funk. ~Mark Ellis
Though he said it might be looking too far ahead, Ellis said, “To play in Oakland my whole career would be great. Not a lot of people get to do that in this game.”
no one gets to play in oakland their whole mlb career, unless it’s a REALLY short career.
A's v Giants "is kind of like the difference between going to see the Ramones and going to see the Bee Gees. A's fans will go see the Ramones." -BB 07/27/05
Clearly you've never heard of Dick Green, or you think that KC isn't Oakland

Let's hope this deal goes better than Beane's other multiyear deals
also from Slusser’s article:
Instead, he will be just the third player in the Billy Beane era that the A’s have signed beyond his first free-agent season, joining outfielder Jermaine Dye, who got a three-year deal with an option year in 2002, and third baseman Eric Chavez, who signed a six-year, $66-million extension in 2004.
Congratulations to a player who was as valuable as Derek Jeter was last year.
Yay!
Children, until we have taught them better, will be perfectly happy with a seasonal round of games in which conkers succeeds hopscotch.
You have no sense of grit

Excellent
I can almost guarantee it’s for a $$ amount less than his true market value.

Cardenas will move to SS or 3B
No worries there.
Your 2008 Athletics: It's Nothing Personal.
Man this is good news!
And if anyone on this A’s team deserves some loyalty-reward, it is most certainly Mark Ellis. Thank you Billy………..we love you! And congrats to M.E.!
go A’s!!!!
It's official, according to MLBTradeRumors.com
$5 mil next year, $6 mil the year after, and a $6 mil (i think club) option for the last year.
Apparently there are another couple million dollars in incentives.
This just made my day! I’m so excited to see Mark in green and gold for a little longer!

Where did this Unicorn nickname come from?
Carlos and Victor Zambrano have exactly the same number of career postseason wins. Who would have thought?
Heaven.

And it's not a nickname.
Eh.
Ray: "How fun is it to be up here playing in the Big Leagues?"
Gio: "It's *SUPER* fun!!!"
I just realized that
“unicorn” is an anagram of “Nico run” – woo hoo!
