Moneyball Movie Moves Forward.
Dark Horizons is reporting a Variety story that the long in "development hell" movie adaption of Moneyball has finally moved forward.

Here is a bit of what Dark Horizons had to say:
Steve Zaillian ("Braveheard") has signed on to adapt Michael Lewis' nonfiction bestseller "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game" for Sony Pictures reports Variety.
David Frankel is attached to direct the project which is being lined up as a potential starring vehicle for Brad Pitt. Michael De Luca and Rachael Horovitz are producing.
I'm not a huge personal fan of Brad Pitt's acting (or lack there of it) but I'm excited for this project to fianlly get off the ground.
Here's to the next Jerry McGuire!

Bobby Crosby
Word is that Pitt has installed a batting cage in his home in France to learn and mimic Crosby’s ability to swing and miss low and outside pitches.

I look forward to this scene
“The next 5 teams among the most pathetic organizations in pro baseball select high school players. Tampa Bay takes a high school shortstop named Melvin Upton… the selections made are, from the A’s point of view, delightfully mad…. when the Milwaukee Brewers take Prince Fielder with the eighth pick, the room explodes. It means that Scott Kazmir will be available to the Mets. And he is. And the Mets take him… "Prince Fielder just saved our paint says an old scout.”
Or will Lewis remove it in embarrassment?

More on Pitt
Brad Pitt Joins The Majors For Billy Beane’s ‘Moneyball’
t’s a busy day for Brad Pitt! Variety reports the star is in talks to play the lead in "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game," a movie based on Michael Lewis’ non-fiction book. "Devil Wears Prada" helmer David Frankel is attached to direct, and Steve Zaillian ("Schindler’s List," "Gangs of New York") has signed on to pen the script.

My take on Brad Pitt
My feeling on Brad Pitt is that no matter what movie he’s in he plays just one part—Brad Pitt. Every character he plays (in my opinion) sounds and acts exactly the same.
The guy just has no range.

this can be said of most actors
I do think Pitt has two roles, the crazy dude and the victimized, brooding everyman. I guess he plays the smarmy smart ass sometimes too, but that relatively close to crazy dude most of the time.

What I can’t see is why anyone would go see this movie. 2002 is ancient history and the A’s didn’t win the World Series, so the only way a movie makes sense is if the story is only loosely based on Michael Lewis’ original tale.

If it does come out,
Of course I’ll see it (and prolly like it), like I expect nearly all of us will. But like many have said, Moneyball just doesn’t seem like it would be as good as a movie as it was a book.
But I really like Brad Pitt (and Edward Norton is probably my favorite actor), so who knows? And unlike some others who want the project to die, I think it could only lead to more popularity for the A’s (and therefore higher budget and better players!). Although that seems unlikely; how many people became Indians fans after Major League or Angels fans because of Angels in the OF? So if Moneyball somehow does make it as a movie, I’ll happily spend ten bucks, even on my limited/non-existant college budget to see it.

I have a feeling it will be more negative..
focusing on Beanse psychotic over-competitivenes and his hard hitting, uncomprimising leadership while he chews out the old baseball men in the organisation and talks crap about the high school picks.. Where else is there any drama in this book??
I mean the book shows of his results, but it’s not very sympathetic to him at all.
but it would be really cool if they spend a lot of time on the 20 game winning streak…

Movie Karma
Hey guys! First time poster, long time lurker. (What can I say, I fear the newbie hazing)
I had to finally join once I saw a thread about 2 of my great loves (movies, and A’s baseball).
I have to admit I’m also tentative about a Moneyball Movie. But I will say this: The last time they made a movie about a current baseball team, that team won the World Series while they were filming.
So I say Let’s Make a Moneyball Movie! and cast Jimmy Fallon as Billy Beane! (ok… maybe that’s too crazy).
