Open Thread: NLCS Game Three

In a series most memorable so far for Brett Myers' hits, Chase Utley's walks, "Shane Victorino, RBI masheeeeeen!!!" and Manny being Manny, it's a must-win for the Dodgers as the NLCS moves to the insufficiently Mexican confines of Chavez Ravine.

Jamie Moyer, whose age/fastball velocity ratio currently sits at 45:81, takes the very hill he is over for the Phillies, while the Dodgers counter with right-hander Hiroki Kuroda. Philadelphia leads the best-of-seven series two games to none.

The starting lineups are below - first pitch is scheduled for 5:22pm PDT.

Ethier's good - but the A's can also reasonably hope

to get similar productivity out of Buck, Cunningham, or Sweeney so at least they let go a good player at a position of depth and possibilities.

I may be a minority of one around here...

…but I come from a long line of Red Sox fans (rooting for the Sox was a central part of my second-generation Jewish-American grandpa’s identity) and I always kind of liked them.

The vast recent expansion of Red Sox fandom to include all sorts of Yankee-fan-like boneheads who like to root for General Motors (c. 1950s….rooting for the Orioles is like rooting for today’s GM) has significantly cooled whatever 2nd-favorite-team fervor I once had for the Red Sox.

Yeah, but tomorrow, who knows.

We all know how inconsistent Blanton can be.

Now with 100% more Canuck.

Blanton will come up big

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

He's unpredictable though.

I’m sorry. I like Cupcakes, but I don’t see a big coming-through twice in a row.

How many times did Rich Harden, who’s a MUCH better pitcher than Blanton, come through in the playoffs?

Harden may be better, but he's not bigger

I wasn’t commenting on how he would pitch.

There was also a recent article in ESPN Magazine analyzing at-bat music all across the league, and every sentence had an asterisk next to it saying “This statistic doesn’t include the A’s, who do not have batting music.” Argh.

I thought the sound guys got bored or something, but it looks like he actually chose it. Okay, Hannah, whatever you want.

I want 7 games.

Since I really don’t give a flying eff who wins this one. I wanted Brewers; they got eliminated first round. So I really don’t care.

Victorino looks like he's playing "head and shoulders, knees and toes"--

keeps pointing at his head and his ribs.

Yeah, that was pretty boring. Silly boys. If you’re gonna clear the bench, you might as well throw a punch or two.

by whiteshoes40 on Oct 12, 2008 9:10 PM PDT up reply actions

It was more of an "all out milling around"

No punches were thrown, but the barbs and slightly irritated looks were flying. It was like a boxing match between Ghandi and an Amish grandmother.
