Open Game Thread: ALCS Game Two
Two mice fell into a pitcher of cream. One mouse resigned himself to his fate, and drowned. The other mouse struggled and struggled so much, he churned the cream into butter and was able to climb out safely. Also, the second mouse remembered how to hit a goddam baseball, which helped a lot.
Let's go Rays!

I prefer another Christopher Walken story
Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dissentary, he gave me the watch. I hid with this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you.
I’m not sure that being a Devil Rays fan was as painful as having a wristwatch up your ass for five years, but they did suck for a long time.

So, I just found this picture.

And I made it smaller, but I don’t know if it worked. Sorry if it’s too big.

Wooo! Thanks for the pic! :)

Even though I'd pull Kaz right here.
Rays NEED to win at the Trop before going to Fenway.
Put in David Price.
Now with 100% more Canuck.
I think Maddon played it right with Kazmir -
Get the bullpen ready but give him a chance to settle down and go 5 IP. It’s unlikely you’ll fare much better asking 6-7 IP out of your bullpen.

Now that I'm living in FL, it really bugs me how many BoSox fans are here.
BoSox fans and Yankee fans are like Cowboys fans. They’re in every frigging city and town on the continent.

I grew up in Md and hated the Redskins. I moved to Texas and hated the Cowboys.
But I’m in FL and I’m loving these Rays! Can’t be a Dolphins fan tho because I’m a Jets fan. Maybe one of these days I’ll root for a team that can get above .500.

I like this whole home run thing.
It appears to be a very efficient method for scoring runs. Someone should tell the A’s.
I like the RBI single thing, too

I'm tired of each umpire having his "own" strike zone. Replace them with machines.
I’m for replacing human beings with machines wherever practical.

Well, Florida sucks, too.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t play their baseball games in a dome.
I’m more saying they shouldn’t have a baseball team (let alone two) if they gotta do that.

Besides...
It’s not as if all the Caribbean and Latin American nations—plenty hot and sometimes muggy though they are—play baseball in domes.
So let me correct myself. Floridians suck.

Maddon's leash on Kazmir was WAY too long.
Maddon’s a great manager, but in a playoff game, you try to TAKE ADVANTAGE of home field advantage. Kaz should have been pulled after the second Pedroia shot. Going into Tropicana North with a 0-2 deficit is a bad thing.
Now with 100% more Canuck.
I actually don't agree - I think Maddon played it about right
Bad pitching makes managers look bad, but look at what’s already happened with the bullpen. Usually better to err on the side of giving your #1-2 starter a chance to settle down for 5 IP if he possibly can.

Kazmir did have a 5.19 ERA in September, and wasn't that good in the ALDS

And he's a pitch count nightmare -
but he’s still their #2 starter and asking the bullpen to get 17 outs is never a great bet.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal
If you look at it, Maddon did have the pen up
with nobody out in the 3rd, so he was willing to pull Kazmir early but Kazmir settled down a bit. Then the HRs produced runs faster than Maddon could make a move – in contrast Balfour walked a couple but that allowed Maddon to react with another pitching change. Kazmir didn’t really do that.

Oh, that's a good point
Now I WOULD argue that Francona stayed too long with Beckett, because I think it was pretty obvious that he didn’t have it all night and after the Upton walk, or certainly after the Pena hit, I would have expected Francona to go to the bullpen.
