christ you know it ain't easy
being a prophet is never easy
Ah, the slings and arrows wielded by inferior minds, living blissfully free of the burden of basic faculties such as sight, hearing, taste...
Do I envy these souls, or consider them lesser beings? No, neither is the case. For I know that it is in the nature of we hairless monkeys to seek solace in some fetish, some basalt deity which serves as an anchor on the tempest-tossed seas that constitute this mortal coil.
I know, I know, we all wanted to believe that the excessive hair product perched atop BB's dome housed something special, something remarkable which represented something higher in ourselves - an ability to make lemonade out of lemons, victory out of meager resources. When we saw him selling used cars on the tube, we didn't want to believe that this was a glimpse into his true nature, much as we didn't want to believe that our beloved team was merely the flashy wristwatch gracing the limbs of a real estate cardshark - and probably not a real rolex at that.
Now, as Warren Buffett has said, we see who has been swimming naked now that the tide has gone out. Who is left with a string of broken promises and compromised assets now that the real estate bubble has popped and only the truly oxygen-deprived would consider paying 500K for a condo in the traffic-choked salt swamps of Alviso East... Who is left with nothing but memories and a Bobby Kielty bobblehead...

felix pie
would actually be a good choice as a #3 guy on the 2008 A's. and that's just sad.
Why?
Felix Pie is a very good young prospect.
because the .250 he'll turn in next year
would be worthy of the 3-spot
Yuh, batting average is all that matters.
Also, young players improve, strange though that might seem. Young players with tools AND great production often as not become good players in the majors, strange though that might seem.
the ability to put the ball where fielders ain't
can come in handy in a baseball game, especially if it happens to be in between the chalk lines.
The ability to actually score runs

Have you heard that commercial
about bacon on the radio? Actually, I don't even know what the commercial is FOR, but it's sure goddamned irritating.
Am I the only A's fan
who has any real team spirit left?
We've traded two players. Two players who were fun to watch. Two players who I'd rather have. But they're gone now, and come next year we'll still have a baseball team and there'll be surprises and exceeded expectations and excitement as there always is. The team is a constant. That's one thing that's so great about it. No matter who comes and goes, the team still exists, and there is still baseball to watch and root for.
A's Nation has fallen victim to mass depression. But we need to get over it.
I'm over it
Here's to next year's Rockies.
I haven't fallen into mass depression
at all. I'm going to love watching the young guys excel this year. I love Buck.

i hear he rocks the wheelchair like tony hawk
i hear he's working on a true 720 with it. this is where crosby provides the kind of priceless mentoring that precludes a trade.
didn't vote in the poll.
I hate trading Swisher, but I am still a fan and will be eager to see these new guys compete this season.
Go A's!

Thanks for putting in the hard work
of being a prophet.
I don't think we will be last in any of em
We won't be last in the AL West, that title belongs to the Rangers.
We won't be last in the AL, if the Royals and Devil Rays don't take it, the Orioles will.
We won't be last in the MLB, after all, there's the whole NL to think about, and the Giants still exist.
Do us all a favor
And go join Halos Heaven where this sort of garbage is encouraged by their "fearless leader". I don't think I've read a single intelligent or enlightening post or diary by you this entire offseason. I'm sorry if this qualifies as a CGV but I'm tired of all the doomsday diaries on AN for the past 2 months, especially from you oh-mighty-prophet!
I agree
even your poll is worthless. The Angels deserve a fan like you.
one of very very few bright spots
was seeing k-rod watch that mannyazo end his season.
I'm okay with your words.
Oh prophet, say what you must. We all get over our sadness in time. I'm with Blez and believe it will be fun to watch the team as it evolves. However, I have no love for BB...he really needs to be traded!

Oh this is from that guy
I really do think he is a troll, I didnt look up to see who wrote it untill you pointed that out Amnesiac727.
I agree, Shippee33 -
Plus there's precedent, as before him notah7er proved to be a troll.
I'm guessing that notah8er's banning won't come as a surprise to him, however, because after all he always knows everything before it happens!
Wait for it...Wait for it...
HE GONE!
It is forgiveable
For the "casual" A's fan to become depressed, but even at 21 years of age I have followed the A's long enough to know what is really worth enjoying. Will I be be somewhat depressed if/when the A's go on 5+ game losing streaks, YES, but I'll be much more concerned with the individual performances.
Also, I find that poll pretty disgusting. At this point, the A's are still better than Texas IMO, which is of course subject to change when Street and Blanton are traded, which I am hopeful will occur.
2008 is going to be about tracking our commodities, looking for individual growth in both the majors and minors and hoping for good health above all else.

I need a "none of the above"
and since there isn't one, I didn't vote.
I still have hope that I will be pleasantly surprised by this years team. Even though I'm not expecting a division win, I'm not going to stop watching and rooting for them.
I thought this diary
was going to contain more witty John Lennon references. This diary does not deliver.

It does, however, contain some psychedelically
mixed metaphors. My mind hasn't been this blown since 1968.
i was addicted to a winning team
and i'm sick of cold turkey
Winning is possible
we just have to Imagine it

whatever gets you throught the night
or the long night of the soul that is a 70-win season
I read this, like, 4 times
and still had no idea what the f*** it was about.
It's like it was written by a lobotomized Jack Kerouac.

My initial guess
What I figured from my first impression is that it's a very convoluted, self-congralutory version of the ever popular 'boo hoo Swisher's gone' diary, but I could very well be wrong.
True fact
I was reading up on CGVs the other day (no points for guessing why), and it turns out that defeatism is a CGV. At least if it's sufficiently persistent, shrill and/or content-free.
IIRC, that's mainly aimed at game threads
In the past people have been belligerently negative on game threads, basically looking for company in their misery by making everyone else miserable. I don't think it would ever be a CGV to develop an actual argument, even if the conclusion were really negative.
Not that that's what this diary is, though.
In fact one of the most important tenets
of the CGV "dos and don'ts" is that there is absolutely no risk whatsoever of criticizing the overall or specific performance of a player, a coach, Beane, a sportswriter, or a member of the AN community - provided it is not so repetitive as to be mere harassment, or so free of actual argument as to be nothing more than a personal attack.
