10 reasons why it is better to be an A's fan than a Giants fan
With all the negative things happening around the A's, the Haren and Swisher trades, the not so clear move to Fremont, now is the time to keep up the positive side of things and why it is better to be a fan of the A's than the team across the bay.
Reason 10: We have a future. The Giants don't have any solid prospects and instead keep signing a bunch of has-beens every year.
Reason 9: We have a better public address announcer. Roy is much better than Renel every day of the week. For the one time i go to AT&T Park, i cringe every time i hear Renel's voice.
Reason 8: A's games are affordable. You don't have to worry about mortgaging your house when going to an A's game.
Reason 7: Double-play Wednesdays. $2 for a seat is ridiculously cheap for a Major League ticket. In addition, the A's have all-you-can-eat seating for 2008 (just saw it one the A's site). So when your Giants fan friend of yours has to pay $10 for a drink, you can just laugh at him.
Reason 6: Ken Korach. Is far better than Kruk and Kuip and doesn't need cheap gimmicks to call a great ballgame.
Reason 5: Our stadium can keep its name for more than 5 years.
Reason 4: Billy Beane. He produces better teams than the Giants do with half the salary. Has there even been a book written about Brian Sabean? I think not.
Reason 3: Best fans in baseball. Rain or shine, A's fans will always be there for their team. The biggest things most people at Giants game will get worked up about is how their company did within the last 10 minutes.
Reason 2: 9 Championships > 5 championships (and the last one was in 1954!)
Reason 1: 1989. enough said.

What?!
Oh, we have a future. Just not a mediocre one ... now we actually have a talented bunch of players in a re-stocked system. We have a very bright future! Instead of, saaaaay, finishing 10 games under .500 for the next several years, we take our lumps next season and come on strong in '09.
Trust me, Haren and Swisher were not going to make us contenders.
I think what he meant
wasn't that the A's didn't have a future, it was that the Giants did.
Which is true. They have a bunch of top prospects at the lower levels of their farm system. Not much above A-ball, though.
six players do not restock a team
Poor (or cheap) draft choices and a ton of marginal trades have depleted the A's beyond what six prospects can fix.
The A's used to be #1 in minor league talent---this trade may get themin the top 20.
Nah ...
they were top 20 (right around 20, at least) before the trades ...
And the eight prospects (plus one Major Leaguer) they acquired make the system easily top 10 and arguably top 5.
Nope.
Reason 2: 9 Championships > 5 championships (and the last one was in 1954!)
This should read ... Reason 2: 4 Championships > 0 Championships (the San Francisco Giants remain TITLE-LESS!!!!)
Renel
thank GOD i don't have to hear her voice saying "BARRYYYYYYYYY BOOOOOONDS!" anymore when i go to a giants game! i really DID cringe everytime i heard that!
Re #7:
It appears that the A's will be opening sections 316, 317 and 318 for their "all you can eat" area. That should make Brian in 317 very, very happy. Apparently these can even be purchased on a season basis.
so what is the remaining tarp going to say now?
"home of the o letics"
New team name?
The Fremont O-letics!
An Obesity section--Excellent marketing
I hope they install wider seats.
#10, I think Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum
Are pretty good pitching prospects. So they have a little hope. But yeah, they haven't developed much on the offensive side.
No longer prospects.
I'm pretty sure both have lost their prospect status.

Giants had a great 2007 draft though
They had something like 5 first-round and sandwich picks, and all of the guys who they chose (and who actually signed in time to play in '07) showed well in pro ball.
They were very fortunate with compensation picks last offseason. They got true first-round picks for both Moises Alou and Jason Schmidt as well as "sandwich" picks. Think the Dodgers would rather have Tim Alderson than Schmidt now?
they also picked
a high school outfielder with like four kids and tons of makeup concerns. and i remember reading that alderson can't throw from the windup (no, not a typo). i liked the bumgarner pick, even though he can't throw anything but a fastball (said whoever was analyzing at the draft).
Well, to be fair
the A's did pick a college outfielder who, while admittedly childless, was apparently working hard to rectify the situation in high school... and has tons of makeup concerns.
(I say this even though I like Corey Brown a lot as a prospect.)

listening to kruk and kuip makes me want to vomit
Vomit doesn't do them justice...
More like put a bullet through my brain.

the a's have
greenandgoldpolarbear!
The Giants have blackandorangepolarbear. Who's ever even heard of a black and orange polar bear? There's no such thing. The only thing the Giants could come back with would be an orangeandblackmonarchbutterfly, and I think our polar bear wins that battle every time.
Which reminds me: Did anybody else see the Golden Compass?
I haven't seen the Golden Compass ...
down Green and Gold Polar Bears exist in that magical land? 'cause, otherwise, I don't get it ...
