Brad Ziegler is Fine; And Still Gettin' Ziggy with It

I just wanted to drop a quick note and let everyone know that I chatted with Brad Ziegler this evening and he is doing perfectly fine.  He should be ready to go at the start of spring training.  He might need to wear a helmet for the first few days of camp, but he's hoping that he'll be perfectly fine.

I'm really hoping he's healthy enough to really compete for a spot on the Oakland roster.  It would be like one of AN's own was wearing the green and gold.

We hope you feel better soon, Brad and hope to see you sporting the green and gold in 2008.

Thanks Blez for the update-

that's really good news!

Full and speedy recovery, Mr. Ziegler- I think everybody that visits this site wishes you that and hopes you get a good shot at making the major league club out of spring training this year!

You Go Ziggy
Like most of us at AN, I know we appreciate what Brad shared with us about life in the minors and we certainly wish him every success in his life and career

Cheers - TC

The wisest thing Leonard Koppett ever wrote

was (I'm paraphrasing here) that the single most important thing in all of baseball-- and the thing that separated people who could play the game at a high level from those who couldn't-- was learning how to suppress the fear of the ball. One cannot succeed in the game without somehow developing the maniac belief that one can't be hit, or won't be hit, or that it won't hurt.

I'm not sure if that's actually helpful, but maybe it is. Get well, man-- we'll all be pulling for you in spring training.

Yeah, that matters.

Of course it'd also help if a person can hit or pitch better than 99.9999% of the population.

Still,

One sentence would have been nice, for those of us who just went straight the front-page story and said, "Whaaa?  what the heck happened?"

Would it have been so hard to say, "For those of you who didn't hear, Brad Ziegler took a line drive to the head. (See diary.)"?

Yes, it's no big deal for us to look to the right and find the diary, but the tone says that if you didn't already know that you're out of the loop.  I know it's not intentional, but it's still offputting and adds to the sense of AN as a members-only clique. Why should Oakland Ehs have to apologize for reading the front-page story without having noticed the other diary first?

I second that.

The front page story is, by design, the thing that gets seen first (unless someone makes a specific point to ignore it and to go immediately to the diaries on the right side).  oakland ehs beat me to the "Huh?!?"

Ouch!

Glad he's going to be okay. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Oakland during the regular season.
