PCL Play Off Game. Bees Vs Rivercats

Well this was definetly a much more exciting game than the A's game!!! Bees took the early 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, helped by a wild pitch from Tadano. However his teammates picked him back up in the bottom half courtesy of a 2R HR from Putnam and then Blasi following up with a dinger to the same part of the yard to tie the game.
After a lead off double in the fourth, Tadano did not allow another baserunner until the 8th, retiring 13 straight.
In the 5th Blasi connected with his second Hr of the day to give the Cats their first lead of the game. They should have added another in the 6th but Putnam was cut down at home by a throw from the left fielder, although the call was hotly contested by Putnam and The Cats manager.

Star-divide

The Cats had another chance to add on in the 7th but Petit flied out with two on... Sounds like the big boys huh??
Tadano finally had a runner reach on an error in the 8th with one out and then a wild pitch moved him to second, before Kaz was removed in favour of Ron Flores.
Flores promptly gives up a bloop single to center and with another play at the plate going against us, the Bees tied it up. Tadano really deserved the victory in the game but it was not to be.
Now its a man we have come to know well coming into pitch, as Ziggy made his way to the mound charged with getting the cats out the inning without further damage.
Well... he walked the first guy he faced, got the next guy to chop to third with the only play to first for the out with the runners moving up. The instead of issuing the free pass to load the bases to one of their hottest hitters he.......

STRIKES HIM OUT!!! Yeah i know what you thought was coming!
He then followed it up with a scoreless ninth, leaving it up to the bats to win the game for him. They Didnt so he comes out and pitches a scoreless 10th, can they do it for him this time?
YES!!!! With two on.. .Danny Putnam with the Walk off Jack... His second of the night and the Cats force the game 5, winning 7-4 in ten innings!!! Bring on those Bees tomorrow!!!

What do they have to do?

Nick Blasi and Jorge Piedra have batted over .300 since they arrived early in the year.  Blasi is batting over .500 in this series with two home runs tonight.  Both seem to be competent outfielders.  Why are they on no one's radar?  Inquiring minds (who have actually seen them play all year) want to know.....

With Blasi, it's just that until he got to AAA

(as an emergency fill-in from High-A) he'd never hit like this. Ever.

He was decent in short season, below average in low-A for nearly two seasons, barely passable in High-A, and once he hit AAA ball he just tattooed the ball.

The Nick Blasi I knew from 2004 was no home run hitter. At all.

So the thinking has been that, it's nice he's had a good patch, but will it last longer than a few weeks...(now months) ?

But yeah, he's showing it's no fluke right now. Gotta be starting to make the A's notice.

The Chavez Shift: 6 infielders and 2 catchers.

Piedra's going to be under a cloud

pretty much indefinitely, because he was suspended for steroids a while back. And I think he's out of options, which means that he can't be sent back down if he doesn't hit at the big-league level. I suspect he'll actually be given a shot at the big-league team next spring training, but we'll have to see.

Just got back from the game, and it was a great

crowd, and an even better outcome.  Nick Blasi hit 2 bombs tonight, and Daric hit everything hard.  Gregorio Petit's arm is amazing, although he committed an error, his arm is effortless and strong, and Ziggy bounced back real well.  I will also be at the deciding game tomorrow, so let's go RIVERCATS!!!!!!

how tough a ticket would today's game be?

I live about 20 minutes away, I have nothing else to do, I might go.

Rickey Henderson: 35, 24, hall of fame!

Tickets would not be a problem

I got an e-mail from the RiverCats after last night's game asking me to buy tickets for today.  Plus they are up against NFL opening day.  Game time at Raley Field is 1:05 this afternoon.

when Putnam's first HR left his bat

last night, I actually thought from the trajectory that it would be just a pop fly to the outfield. Not having been to Raley Field I don't know how much smaller is the playing field -- nor how much easier it is to hit one out -- than it would be at the coliseum. But that factor -- plus the fact that the pitchers won't be as tough as at the major league level -- leads me to take some of the offensive exploits at the AAA level with a grain of salt.

Remember, DJ was/is an absolute monster at the AAA level.

and the Rivercats win!!!

They go on to New Orleans.

We wont' be seeing their stars for a little while.

I was particularly impressed with Barton and pitcher Jerry Blevins (who I think struck out most of the batters he faced in the last three innings).
