Open Game Thread: Game 139 - A's at Anaheim
The A's and Chad Gaudin with his 10-9 record and 4.06 ERA take on those Fullerton Angels and Ervin "If Only Stoneman Had Traded Me When My Value Was High" Santana and his 5-12 and 6.38 ERA. Santana has pitched very well against the A's in his career, but that isn't saying much. Most pitchers pitch well against the A's offense in recent years.
The Angels are finally running away with the division. It took them long enough. The M's have been rebuilding for several years and while the Angels have had injuries, they are NOWHERE even close to what the A's have put up with. The A's have set records this year, folks. I mean we're talking 40 years in Oakland and the A's have never experienced a season like this one. So enjoy this year, So Cal beachballers.
The A's lineup looks like this:
Stewart
Swisher
Cust
Piazza
Johnson
Ellis
Hannahan
Scutaro
Suzuki
The Angels lineup facing Gaudin looks like this:
Matthews
Cabrera
Guerrero
Anderson
Izturis
Morales
Kotchman
Kendrick
Mathis
The A's may be long out of it, but they've gone 8-5 against the rodents. I would love to just make sure and finish by winning the season series against the Angels.
LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!

If you happen to be at the game in socal.....
no matter how tempting it might be.... Dont Eat the Food!!! LOL!!!
on ESPN today Soscia was quoted
as saying that his 2007 team reminds him of the 2002 world series champ team...
After the game today in which Ichiro elected not
to participate in a run down between 1st and 2nd by simply walking back to the dugout, he was asked why and said he doesn't like people to touch him.
Makes the Blanton beat down even funnier than it already was. What a freak!

I don't want to go back to work tomorrow.
Neither do I
But they finished fixing the bridge early, so there goes my excuse.
perhaps you should schedule multiple surgeries
You won't have to go to work again until 2009!
That makes me sad.
Hannahan - should be cleanup
I'm going with that for now (until proven otherwise)
Piazza should have a good game
he owns these fools!

However,
6-1 lifetime, in 8 starts, with a 1.something (can't remember) ERA against the A's. Oh joy.

my one country-music song
"I Needed a Doctor (But All She Had Was a PhD)"
Ellis has huge range
They should just mark his position as 2B/RF when Cust is playing.
"Watch how the professionals do it."
"Ellis, hurry! I can't do it. I'm scared, Mark."
Maybe Icihiro is afraid of
catching the ghey while in NYC
Jack Hannahan cannahan!
That's a BS Call
That strike was higher than Pauly Shore.
There is a lady behind the screen...
that does the radar. She is ALWAYS there. She must have perfect attendance. I wonder if she's ever been employee of the month. I'd like her job.
I would also like some nachos... and a margarita.
Oh but he does....
it's just really really limited.
Now I remember why we need a CF. Nonetheless, I love the way the guy guts it out and plays wherever the lineup says he should.
We have a free range CFer.
ever since that stint in your basement though ...
... he's no longer cage-free.
(Nor, I would presume, cruelty-free.)
oh, he has a range, alright
It's chained to his ankle, along with a microwave and a George Foreman grill.
Does he ever burn his foot on the Foreman
while cooking bacon?
I don't.
Bacon scares me. It's the smell. It reminds me of the time I feel asleep at the beach and got a horrible sunburn.
I think I see rats on the rocks
in centerfield when they show slow mo shots. Beady little eyes staring back at me on the screen...or it's Lackey's family.
The Rivercats put up an 8 spot in the 1st inning,
and Andrew Bailey is more than holding his own through 3 innings.
Damn..serious?

And yep, he got the W
Cubs got pounded 11-3
And he hit well too
If I recall, he had a 2-run single.
Come on chad strike his ass out!!!
Woohoo we didnt give up a run!!!
Chad seems to be pitching well...
Maybe our offense will make an appearance?
Hey guys! Let's beat these jackholes.
What was the BIG change regarding AN today?

I don't know.
I don't think it happened yet. Although... I am getting a hot flash.
NOW, dammit!
I expected a little more from a varsity letterman

I hope it's killfile.
yea we got a runner in scoring position.
PLEASE PLEASE can we get a timely hit....
Swish was fooled badly.
Fosse reminds us that Charley Finley was a prick.
That's informative.
Talking about Joe Rudi
He declined after leaving the A's. Money not well spent in this case.
Thus starting a new baseball tradition...
I loved those guys from that era. Sure seems like a different world now.
Damn it !!! F**************************
I like Swisher better
when he's not hungover. Seems like he always looks awful "night game after a day game."
Please tell me
that wasn't the giveaway from Asian Pacific American Heritage Night at Angels Stadium.
Anybody else disappointed in Swisher
Never have much faith when he's at the plate. See him as someone who will be a little above average his entire career. Have become immensely annoyed by his facial expressions. Am at wit's end when he questions by staring into the distance every called strike.
Anybody else?
Yeah. That really annoys me too.

HALP!
Invoke the mercy rule
FSNBA needs to go down for the rest of the evening
Alright! 7-0!
We've got them right where we want 'em! (See yesterday)
I noticed that as well...
But thought I'd be the only one. Thanks for being so observant!
This sure isn't any fun to watch. I'm already
done being upset about losing especially since LAA is easily going to win the division anyway.

Chad sucks now.
Typical A's. I wonder if the pitchers get frustrated and either start hurling the ball down the middle or try to nibble the plate so much that the end up issuing tons of walks.
Okay...
if this gets any further out of hand, let's let Melhuse pitch the last 4 innings. He did say he'd be willing to do anything the team needed him to do.
I'm still hoping for a .500 record so I would
prefer throwing anyone of no value rather than waste our bullpen in the 1st game of the series.

Yes. Lewis is a perfect candidate.

Oh god. I hate listening to Physioc.
He has named Macier and Mathis the "M&M guys" as if they are comparable to Mantle and Maris. What a f'n idiot!

Mute the TV and turn on the radio to ESPN...
Rory Marcus is good.

can we watch the rivercats? they are up 12-0 and
they have a no-no going

I can't recall seeing a player make more
line drive outs than DJ. He hits the ball hard but it always seems to be right at the 1st baseman.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Sep 3, 2007 7:43 PM PDT reply actions
That's what he gets
for giggling at first base with the enemy
The baseball gods were not happy at all.

no no broken up after 6/23 innings
This kid just got called up from stockton, not bad for your first appearance above A ball...
Was it Bailey?

Yep sure was

Fremont.

Two games in a row that Stockton pitchers have
done well for the cats. Brad Davis pitched a beaut yesterday. Oz would be happy about that, he Likes Davis

Memo to Colby Lewis. Throw strikes. It's 7-0.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Sep 3, 2007 7:52 PM PDT reply actions
Not helping, Colby!
I still have a hard time believing that Vlad
was never injured this year. That is an amazing thing.

How bad does it have to get for Melhuse to get in the damn game?

Korach defending Braden
but acknowledging that the A's will be auditioning Meyer this month as well.
Vince pointing out that Braden has had many more chances to show the big club what he can do, than has Meyer.
I still don't understand
why Meyer is with the big club now though. He's going to be a mop-up man for the time being. He could make a couple of playoff starts for Sacramento; then, after Sacramento's season is over, there would still be time for him to make a start or two for Oakland.
And you would make the Sacramento fans happy, after the way that club has had to deal with player moves all season.
Just give Meyer a major league salary for all of September, if that's the main issue.
got it on, but not focusing on it
did i just see swisher K again to that australian reliefer?
Woohoo Pizza just owns the Angels
Same cant be said for any other A!!!
Piazza - Big Bomb
I have yet to see him do that for the A's at home in person. Annoying to think the Angels fans have "enjoyed" more homers by Piazza in front of them than the home fans have. 9-3 Bad Guys.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
If nothing else
at least we can make them burn a few pitchers tonight
9-4... 4 outs to go.
2 runners on... 2 outs in the 8th, and DJ somehow had enough speed to score there. I was sure he was toast. The good news... Jeff DaVanon is in the game. This guy has the potential to make this game a whole lot closer!
Quick!
Look at Jeff's gameday pic. What is on his forehead? Under his photoshopped cap? Is it a sticker?
Heh, I was thinking DaVanon.
It also looks kinda like one of those eye-black stickers.
Why it's on his forehead, I have no idea.
He's an extra-terrestrial.

Kill Me
I must be the most horrible A's fan ever, but I actually like the angles announcers on fsn. damn, i just think they occasionally give respect to us...
There's always teasin' before pleasin'
But I think this will lack the latter.
If Johnson gets aboard...
I want Melhuse to PH for Bowen. The shock alone will have the Angels give up the game.
Shocker that DJ would ground out to 1B.
I'm really growing weary of his pull-happy approach.
