What's your biggest disappointment for this season?
There are so many different things, but for me I think I'm more bummed by the losing record. In spite of having a AAAA team most of the season, they showed some fight at times, and would have some good runs, but then would just as inexplicably fall apart for extended periods and blow everything they had gained. I feel like they could have... should have... at least had a winning record.
Having said that, I do feel cautiously encouraged about the future. Some dead weight was jettisoned and some good young players have gotten some experience and shown promise.

Crosby
I'm so silly. I say I'll never take him back again. Too many false promises, too much heartbreak. Then come March I see that angular form, muscles and posture and easily athletic grace. The twinkle in his eye, the granite on his chin...I melt, close my eyes, and again see the shortstop savant who quickened my pulse so, back in 2003.
Every spring I fall for the same old lines: I won't chase sliders away <blink, blink>. I've been working on my conditioning <eyelashes bat>. I might shorten up my swing with two strikes <swoon>.
And the disappointment which follows is no less crushing for it inevitability.
Why can't I quit you??????

But I'm going to put you down

although
I won't spin it as romantically as FSU (just not in the mood this morning), I know how he feels. Every year, I think to myself, "he looks great, he's saying all the right things..yeah, this is the year, man!"
Hook, line, and sinker, and I don't even fish.
I still say that Harold Reynolds jinxed him in 2004 when he picked Crosby to win the MVP.

LOL
I feel the same way. I think my opinion winds up affected by Beane because whenever we talk in person he really seems to genuinely believe in Crosby becoming a great major leaguer.

Harden...
we all know how much talent he has when hes healthy, i wasn't expecting 30+ starts from him, but at least like 15, many batters say he has the best "stuff" in the game, i really want to see him on the mound more next year.

I feel the same way
For the past two seasons I have wanted nothing more than to see Rich remain healthy. He did it in 2004 so I know he is capable. Let's all pray he is healthy next season and stays that way.

the Training and Medical Staff
you'd think after two years of fucking our players up, they'd finally get it right. Well, they did. They manage to perfect fucking up a team.

conditioning
or lack thereof appears to have been an issue
The lineup we opened the season with may not have been enough to win the division; sadly we were never given the chance to find out.
Injuries will forever be a part of the game, but it reached ridiculous heights this year.
On the flips side it gave us a premature glimpse of the future.
If I had to add a second disappointment (besides the injuries) is that our string of .500 seasons was snapped.

beane and looza
I'm disappointed that BBeane did not retain his magic touch this year---he's managed to keep a low budget team with atrocious civic and fan support afloat for so long, I thought he could pull it off again. 2nd biggest dspt.---not getting something for Looza when he was sent to the Dodgers--they are loaded in the minors and we got zip. Still, love that Ellis, my fave, had a great year; love that Barton, my upcoming fave, looks good. Make that great. Now if only Komine will come around......I can dream, can't I? (where have I heard that before?) La Vida Es Sueno......

Having to finally and permanently abandon
the notion I had (and I think many others did as well) when the Hudson and Mulder deals were made that Chavez, Crosby and Harden would be the nucleus of a contender for the 2006-2009 period. Unlike FSU there isn't much chance that I will fall for Crosby again; if he ever does turn into a good player I'm pretty certain that it won't be for Oakland. I can't take Harden seriously anymore; regardless of what he does in instructional league and how bravely he talks over the winter, I'll just be waiting for the 2008 disaster...whether he "Kotsays" on the second day of spring training or something else happens later. I think there's a good chance that Chavez will return to be a solid contributor for the rest of his contract, but he's definitely not the man you build your team around. (Actually I had come to that conclusion on Chavez well before the start of 2007.)

I guess you haven't been paying attention...
...to the teams in places like Kansas City, Pittsburgh or the usual ones always at the bottom of the division.
God forbid the A's have a year or two where they struggle the whole season.

the steroids ban has been...
my biggest disappointment. It's really screwed up our team the last couple of years. All this talk about firing the medical and training staffs is ridiculous. Just bring back the steroids and they'd all be healthy.
Here's hoping 2008 brings a new designer drug they can't test for.

Harden
No! Crosby.
No! Finishing below .500.
No! Bradley.
No! Kotsay.
No! Chavez.
No! Polanco.
Is it April again yet?

finishing sub .500
But, individually, I'm most disappointed both with, and for, Chavez. I've seen him his whole career, (I remember being one of about 5k at the Coliseum in '98 when he hit for the cycle) and I've just been hoping he'd turn into a superstar. I've never seen a better third baseman in the field (and I go back to Brooks Robinson days). Watching his decreasing offensive efficacy, coupled with painful injuries, has been bad enough, but hearing and reading him get bashed has been a real bummer. I'm still hoping he'll recover from all this and be the HOFer so many of us see in him.

I think you got mixed up a little.
The game he hit for the cycle was 6/21/2000. I was there too, and they had about 25K there.

I thought he would put up some MVP numbers this year.
