Open Game Thread: Game 113 - A's at Texas (cont.)
A's are leading Texas 7-3 thanks to Scutaro and Braden. Dallas has pitched well in Texas. Will Huston make an appearance as well? And who shot J.R.?

swinging early in the count?
sometimes the offense seems to think their job is done if they put up a 6 spot in the 1st inning.

It would be nice to score again.
Just to prove it wasn't a fluke.

Almost as bad as the Jacksonville Panthers.

Giants game underway
Chances are good that the Nationals will be forever linked to the historic moment when Bonds goes yard for the 756th time - as it's a 4-game series
On an aside, I miss the Expos

From Mccovey's Chronicles
The Conspiracy Continues
November 22, 1963, JFK shot in Dallas. If you reexamine the numbers for that date - 11, 22 and 1963 - you get an suspicious connection to Barry Bonds.
Month-November: 1 + 1 = 2.
Day-22: 2 + 2 = 4.
Year-1963: 1 + 9 + 6 + 3 = 19
Add 2 + 4 + 19 = 25 BARRY BONDS'S NUMBER!
Coincidence? I Think...NOT!

They have a point...
Can anyone verify his whereabouts on the 22nd November 1963? And don't give me that 'twinkle in his father's eye' nonsense!

Who divorces Nicole Kidman?
With two adopted sons?
Tom walked away to bang his clueless new booty why Nicole still has to raise two boys without a father.
A man doesn't walk away from his sons like that. Jesus, married to Nicole Kidman you keep it freaking together in this life, but Tom was too arrogant. Nothing's ever good enough for some people.

This will reveal what a music geek I am
but what I remember most about Knots Landing is what beautiful tone the trumpet has on the high note at the end of the opening theme one year. Better than Doc Severinsen, who is among the best.
I don't recall which season it was. Somewhere toward the middle of the run, I think. They kept the tune the same throughout, but they reorchestrated it several times.

The Oakland A's bullpen.

travel schedule today! I was hoping to hit the pillow by now.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 8:35 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
The A's last hit?
I think that would be the wonderfully cheesy Boy Next Door written and performed by former "A" Barry Zito.
by Rocktopus on Aug 6, 2007 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh crap!
I just got back. Goddammit, bullpen.
by danmerqury on Aug 6, 2007 8:42 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I think
the last one was in the 1920s
oh wait
that was the 10 consecutive hits feat - nevermind
by SwisherThresher on Aug 6, 2007 8:42 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
There's been
far too many of those this season
every time I think I've witnessed the most grueling game of the season, the A's seem to try their darndest to top it
oh and
ALERT
Bonds at the plate, part III

...Up 7-0... let them chip away all game. Just freakin' serve up some salad and let them win already.

Because the only alternative is Marshall
by boilerdan on Aug 6, 2007 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wow - not a lot of confidence in Marshall
Didn't Brown pitch 2 1/3 yesterday?
by boilerdan on Aug 6, 2007 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Two reasons.
- He's pitching fairly well.
- Brown or Calero. Take your pick.
by danmerqury on Aug 6, 2007 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
forgot about Calero
or I'm trying to anyway
by boilerdan on Aug 6, 2007 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
On the bright side
Casilla only threw 8, so he can close tomorrow...
by boilerdan on Aug 6, 2007 9:00 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nice inning from Mr. Embree. Too bad the game
went "shit-house" a while back.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 8:59 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
It's okay.
A's are putting up a 5 spot right here.
by Coach Cleats on Aug 6, 2007 9:00 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs

by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs

the Twins are cheap.

BB would love to save some $$$$ in 2008.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Give a player a multi-year contract
in the middle of a season, and this is often the result.
Swisher already admitted he started pressing to "earn his money" after he signed for it.

A funny note from AN Day.

C'mon Piazza! Hit a home run so we can get
something for you! 3 home runs for a DH? Pathetic! Even with your injury! He looks like a singles hitter now! He has A's disease!
by A'sfansince1970 on Aug 6, 2007 9:09 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
That was a brutal call IMO. Ridiculous.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:11 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Gotta say, this ump is a freaking joke.
by Flashfire on Aug 6, 2007 9:12 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Cut him some slack...
It's freakin' hot, and he thought he could go home an hour ago. Now, he has to stand around and get even more sweaty because both teams are unimpressive.
by louismg on Aug 6, 2007 9:14 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe it's just an English thing, but I've never
understood arguing the call to the point of getting thrown out. The Ump NEVER reverses it. You just look like a muppet.
by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 9:13 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
You have to protect your players and it might
get you a call later in the game. It's actually a brilliant move even though I understand your thinking.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:15 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I understand arguing the call, but not crossing
the line and getting ejected.
by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 9:16 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Are you kidding??
Wash is tired of watching this crap too. He just wants to go in the clubhouse and eat some grub and get a shower. Why should Young have it all to himself?
by alox on Aug 6, 2007 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not to mention that Young is in there too
and it will build team morale. They had some rough patches at the beginning of the year and this will help their relationship a great deal.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
And calling the Ump a cocksucker (Bull
Durham reference there for you guys :P) is going to do that?
I can see the hungry and in need of a shower point though. ;)
by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 9:21 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Aren't you English? Or do you mean American?
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm English - it means I can't fathom the America
way of doing certain things! :P
by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hey. Neither can I sometimes :-)
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 6, 2007 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Neither can I, consistently
Though in California we are a lot more reasonable.
by One won lost won on Aug 6, 2007 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's easy.
The American way is to win now, win at all costs, win no matter what. How you win is a secondary consideration. We don't like to admit it, but we all snicker when a guy gets over and wins with a little trickery. It's why guys like Gaylord Perry and Barry Bonds fascinate us. And why we like a guy who screams his head off for no good reason other than a slight perceived advantage. It's like being a sled dog, if you ain't the lead dog, the view never changes.

Ya knoooow
I was really hoping to watch "A Player to be Named Later" that arrived in the mail this afternoon - especially after the Scooter Grand Slam
But noooooo, the A's had to blow a 7-0 lead and carry it into extras
Now it's late and I'm annoyed ;(

Electronic strike zone anyone?
Even if he went to UCSB (like KenKo and me) ya gotta like the "double-boom-boom" of MYoung striking out, then out of the game.
