Open Game Thread: Game 113 - A's at Texas
The A's go south to take on the Rangers with Dallas Braden on the mound. Braden has a 1-6 record and a 5.28 ERA. He faces old A's farmhand John Rheinecker who is sporting a 1-0 record and a 5.74 ERA.
Braden has gotten better and better from month to month. We'll see if he continues to grow. Texas can be murder on the most experienced pitcher so we'll see if the rookie wilts.
The A's starting lineup looks like this:
Buck
Stewart
Swisher
Piazza
Ellis
Johnson
Scutaro
Murphy
Suzuki
Cust was awesome yesterday, so it's tough to see why he was out of the lineup, but at the same time, Geren is dealing with too many players and not enough positions to play them in.
The Rangers lineup looks like this:
Kinsler
Vazquez
Young
Sosa
Byrd
Cruz
Botts
Saltalamacchia
Laird
It's kind of nice to face the Rangers and not have to worry about Teixeira anymore. And man, they traded for a guy whose name is tough to spell. I know I'm one to complain considering my last name but sheesh!
I just want the A's to keep beating the Rangers. I don't really want to be the team that goes from first to last.
LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!
The Cowboys are building a new stadium near Ameriquest Field and they might be adding a roof to the ballpark while they're at it. No more launching pad?

Murphy back!
Woo!
So, has every member of the A's starting infield been on the DL yet this year?
Chavez - check: Crosby - check: DJ - Check: Ellis - don't remember.
And starting OF - Bradley - check: Kotsay - Check: Swisher - check (hamstring?): Kielty - Check: Buck - Check. (all but Stewart, the major injury risk)
Starting DH - Check.
Ace starter - Check
Ace reliever - Check
Catcher - nope!
So of all the starting players, all have been on the DH, outside the catcher.

Tex or Salty?
Texeira is sorta confusing, but Saltalamacchia is even longer than my name (by one letter):

Not be to pedantic, but it's Teixeira....

not a matter of too many players
for too few positions. it's more like an inability to make a decision or the proper decision.

2nd day in a row?
Ruh-roh, looks like there's going to be some more unnamed sources leaking that they dislike Geren tomorrow.

unnamed source = Kotsay?
if its true i hope he comes out in the open and says it. might give billy added incentive to trade him in the summer and get a CF who can hit.

Can someone explain to me why
hat foul tip wasn't a strike? It never hit the ground...
by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 6:01 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
It shoulda been.
Technically, if it hit Suzuki's glove first, then it's a foul tip (strike 3), not a foul. The umps argued that Suzuki caught it with his elbow, but the replay showed it bounced off of the glove first. Bad call by the umps.

You should talk, Bleszinski.
OK, most of my knowledge of Italian comes from opera librettos, which really isn't a good representation of normal language, but doesn't "Salta la macchia" mean something like "jump the spot"?

Larry Davis and T Buck:
"Is it broken?"
"No." <fiddle, fiddle, fiddle>

"Yup."

94 degrees is what happened. It was freezing
cold on the ferry last night from SF to Oak and I enjoyed every minute of it. I even liked the rainy game on Sunday with the exception of having to see Lackey and K-Rod celebrate.

Larry Davis - incompetent
was napping on the bench. didnt even see Buck getting hit. Geren had to yell at him to go take a look at Buck. He then trots over to first base, doesnt have a clue and then tests Buck's arm for a fracture by trying to twist it in half.

strong an arm. He's serviceable there though, and has an accurate arm.

Juries still out on Murphy
He has to be able to hit a little , since he's no Crosby on D.

I was listening to the radio before the game
And I heard them talking to DJ saying how great he has been hitting lately and I was confused. Sure he hit a homerun last night, but he has looked lost at the plate. I wish they would stop kissing everyone's ass on those interviews.

It's at Fisherman's Wharf- Pier 41. 2721 Hyde Street near one of the cable car access points. It's kind of on a side street so it's not really that noticeable unless you just happen to stumble upon it.

the cardinals tied a major league record tonight by having 10 consecutive hits against david wells and the padres--pretty amazing. And in other news the a's actually scored 6 runs in the first inning. which is more amazing???
