Open Game Thread: Game 113 - A's at Texas
The A's go south to take on the Rangers with Dallas Braden on the mound. Braden has a 1-6 record and a 5.28 ERA. He faces old A's farmhand John Rheinecker who is sporting a 1-0 record and a 5.74 ERA.
Braden has gotten better and better from month to month. We'll see if he continues to grow. Texas can be murder on the most experienced pitcher so we'll see if the rookie wilts.
The A's starting lineup looks like this:
Buck
Stewart
Swisher
Piazza
Ellis
Johnson
Scutaro
Murphy
Suzuki
Cust was awesome yesterday, so it's tough to see why he was out of the lineup, but at the same time, Geren is dealing with too many players and not enough positions to play them in.
The Rangers lineup looks like this:
Kinsler
Vazquez
Young
Sosa
Byrd
Cruz
Botts
Saltalamacchia
Laird
It's kind of nice to face the Rangers and not have to worry about Teixeira anymore. And man, they traded for a guy whose name is tough to spell. I know I'm one to complain considering my last name but sheesh!
I just want the A's to keep beating the Rangers. I don't really want to be the team that goes from first to last.
LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!
The Cowboys are building a new stadium near Ameriquest Field and they might be adding a roof to the ballpark while they're at it. No more launching pad?
Murphy back!
Woo!
So, has every member of the A's starting infield been on the DL yet this year?
Chavez - check: Crosby - check: DJ - Check: Ellis - don't remember.
And starting OF - Bradley - check: Kotsay - Check: Swisher - check (hamstring?): Kielty - Check: Buck - Check. (all but Stewart, the major injury risk)
Starting DH - Check.
Ace starter - Check
Ace reliever - Check
Catcher - nope!
So of all the starting players, all have been on the DH, outside the catcher.
Tex or Salty?
Texeira is sorta confusing, but Saltalamacchia is even longer than my name (by one letter):
not a matter of too many players
for too few positions. it's more like an inability to make a decision or the proper decision.
It's 94 here. 66% humidity.
115 heat index.
Sunnyvale right now
68 degrees, 54% humidity. I'm about to go play softball - I'll probably freeze to death and pull every Milton Bradley muscle in my legs.
2nd day in a row?
Ruh-roh, looks like there's going to be some more unnamed sources leaking that they dislike Geren tomorrow.
unnamed source = Kotsay?
if its true i hope he comes out in the open and says it. might give billy added incentive to trade him in the summer and get a CF who can hit.

Kotsay has been limping
on and off the field for a week.

Saltalamacchia's name takes up half the infield
on Gameday.
Geren has got to put Cust
in the line-up after yesterday's performance. Sit Stewart on the bench.

But but
Didn't Dusty Baker have an opinion about that and hot weather?
is it the Crosby Third Toaster?
Is it me, or is Swisher a much better hitter
right handed? I'm sure the stats don't back that up, but there you go.
In fairness, those of us with mlb.tv have only
just seen it! Three singles to left eh? Whatever gets it done I suppose.
I'm seeing it on EI.
Am I special?
Don't answer that.
So what do you need with the volunteer?
YIPPEEE!!! WE WON!!!
too much?
How can you not play
cust? He's hot and were playing in a launchpad park! Cust would kill here!

NO Fucking WAY!!!
Scutaro is my friend again.
And I will not apologize for using one of the
most glorious, potent, and powerful words in English langauge to express my VMC manlove.
Scutaro
Is always your friend because he's so friendly. You gotta love a Venezulian. Its a rule somewhere. I swear.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Buy Crosby all the damn toasters
and juicers in the world. Donnie Murphy is my new favorite SS!
quick!
someone make sure Crosby stays in Italy!
THIRD-TOASTER MOJO!!!
DOOOOOOOOONNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
WOW
Can we start every inning with 2 outs?
We only seem to bother then.
On a completely unrelated note, does everyone have these moronic "If we swept the A's, and that's a realistic outcome, we'll only be 1 and a half games back" Rangers announcers?
wow.
drove his ERA up by 3 runs that inning
WTF is going on?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
- Scutaro hits best with RISP (.271), then with runners on (.247) and nobody on (.240)
;-)
What do you need?
Okay, do you need me to do something?
Sit here and look pretty like I normally do?
If you want to help
download this

then tell me when you've dled it.
Do you have AIM?
No, no AIM.
Buck and Stewart
must feel like morons for striking out.
It's okay Travis, I'll comfort you.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
Lest we get cocky, remember the Halsey game...7-0 lead...Barajas grand slam...lead slips away...A's lose.
But I'll take the 6-spot!
Well aren't you the bluebird of happiness!
Yowza, that was fast
Working late. Thought, "Hey, aren't they in Texas? I wonder if the game has started," and it's already 5-0!

Less than an hour ago I received the DVD I ordered on Amazon a few days ago: A Player to Be Named Later
Kawinky Dink?
I think not! Yay Scutaro!
mkay
I'll watch it, repackage it, sell it back, then reorder it. Repeat x 50
It'll be a tedious job, but I'll be more than happy to do it for Scoot-Scoot-Scutaro and the A's

OK, home plate umpire Bill Miller
obviously bet on the A's today.
I'm not sure I want Braden
to start the inning with two K's anyway!

am i seeing this right?
just opened up a's webpage..saw the score...6 runs in the first? who is this team?
loving it! GO A's!! :)
It shoulda been.
Technically, if it hit Suzuki's glove first, then it's a foul tip (strike 3), not a foul. The umps argued that Suzuki caught it with his elbow, but the replay showed it bounced off of the glove first. Bad call by the umps.
Dont get to happy AN!
I remember last year in Arlington the A's were up 7-0 in the 5th and wouldn't you know it the Rangers came back. Just to let you guys know this game isn't over!

whose name is tough to spell?
You should talk, Bleszinski.
OK, most of my knowledge of Italian comes from opera librettos, which really isn't a good representation of normal language, but doesn't "Salta la macchia" mean something like "jump the spot"?
according to Babel Fish
You are correct
"It jumps the spot"

So if Spot is the name of the lazy dog
then maybe Jarrod is a quick brown fox.
Wait, isn't it Blezsinski...
No, Blezzinsk...Um, Blessin...
Blez.
100 comments in one inning
Blez has his work cut out for him this evening.
I wish I was here when he hit the HR
My timing is all off now but I want to use all the pictures anyway...

Which I was wondering about..
Why Blantwned instead of Blantowned? Is it a "pwnd" thing that I'm too unhip to understand?
i don't really know
i made them like 3 different ways and i think that was agreed to be the least weird looking. maybe i'll post different ones every time haha.
I think we had a thing.
Someone mentioned that Blantowned looked like it shoulda been prounouced Blan-towned instead of Blant-owned.
Travis Buck blows.
FIRE TRAVIS NOW!
He, personally
has make one HALF the outs of the A's batters! Unacceptable
Any game in which one of our batters
makes half the outs is a good game! Especially if it's the 7th inning or something.

We're still batting .833

Was that a visceral reaction to something?
What did I miss?
Camera cut to Huston, leaning on the fence.

An infield hit for Quicksand!

Also late with a pic
Because I couldn't figure out the html...

This one is pretty classic too (also without text)...

Too much Scutaro.

Crazy women running after me, not wanting to have sex or anything.

Oh, and hi!
