Open Game Thread: Game 113 - A's at Texas

The A's go south to take on the Rangers with Dallas Braden on the mound.  Braden has a 1-6 record and a 5.28 ERA.  He faces old A's farmhand John Rheinecker who is sporting a 1-0 record and a 5.74 ERA.

Braden has gotten better and better from month to month.  We'll see if he continues to grow.  Texas can be murder on the most experienced pitcher so we'll see if the rookie wilts.

The A's starting lineup looks like this:

Buck
Stewart
Swisher
Piazza
Ellis
Johnson
Scutaro
Murphy
Suzuki

Cust was awesome yesterday, so it's tough to see why he was out of the lineup, but at the same time, Geren is dealing with too many players and not enough positions to play them in.

The Rangers lineup looks like this:

Kinsler
Vazquez
Young
Sosa
Byrd
Cruz
Botts
Saltalamacchia
Laird

It's kind of nice to face the Rangers and not have to worry about Teixeira anymore.  And man, they traded for a guy whose name is tough to spell.  I know I'm one to complain considering my last name but sheesh!

I just want the A's to keep beating the Rangers.  I don't really want to be the team that goes from first to last.

LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!

The Cowboys are building a new stadium near Ameriquest Field and they might be adding a roof to the ballpark while they're at it. No more launching pad?

Murphy back!

Woo!

So, has every member of the A's starting infield been on the DL yet this year?

Chavez - check: Crosby - check: DJ - Check: Ellis - don't remember.

And starting OF - Bradley - check: Kotsay - Check: Swisher - check (hamstring?): Kielty - Check: Buck - Check. (all but Stewart, the major injury risk)

Starting DH - Check.

Ace starter - Check
Ace reliever - Check

Catcher - nope!

So of all the starting players, all have been on the DH, outside the catcher.

Tex or Salty?

Texeira is sorta confusing, but Saltalamacchia is even longer than my name (by one letter):

not a matter of too many players

2nd day in a row?

Ruh-roh, looks like there's going to be some more unnamed sources leaking that they dislike Geren tomorrow.

unnamed source = Kotsay?

if its true i hope he comes out in the open and says it. might give billy added incentive to trade him in the summer and get a CF who can hit.

hat foul tip wasn't a strike? It never hit the ground...

by OldhamA on Aug 6, 2007 6:01 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

It shoulda been.

Technically, if it hit Suzuki's glove first, then it's a foul tip (strike 3), not a foul. The umps argued that Suzuki caught it with his elbow, but the replay showed it bounced off of the glove first. Bad call by the umps.

I wish you would have invited me!!

I'm not even prepared to tell you how miserable my dinner experience was on Saturday night but it ended with In-N-Out Burger.

It's at Fisherman's Wharf- Pier 41.  2721 Hyde Street near one of the cable car access points.  It's kind of on a side street so it's not really that noticeable unless you just happen to stumble upon it.

Our plans were made on the fly. I really

appreciate you keeping in touch with me in case I wasn't able to sit with nebraska.  Luckily they didn't kick me out of the 1st level but I would have enjoyed hanging with you and your friend.

non-A's related but of interest to some........

the cardinals tied a major league record tonight by having 10 consecutive hits against david wells and the padres--pretty amazing. And in other news the a's actually scored 6 runs in the first inning. which is more amazing???

The A's scoring 6 points

The fact that they came in the first inning just makes it more magical.

10 consecutive hits more amazing

at .3^10, thats low odds. (0.0000059049)

Even more improbable

if all 10 runs are against the same pitcher.

I mean, what are the chances that you leave the guy in after nine consecutive hits?

10 consecutive hits

I believe I heard the last time it occurred was in the 1920s

does anybody on here play.......

beat the streak on mlb.com???/ i just started and i am at 8 straight games. i have been riding polanco, ordonez and michael young (shannon stewart once, too). the home run streak is much more difficult and i have only had 1 game where i got it correctly.

Sosa

He looks good at this weight.

Yeah but he isn't as little as he was with the

O's either. He was smaller than the batboys back then.

know that California existed when they set up camp here.  If they did know... than I'll never forgive them.

Y'know we had that stuff over here for a little

while, but then they stopped selling it. It was quite nice.

How awesome to hear an English voice on the broadcast!

Jeez, 7ks, 1 walk, but only 5 innings.

There's definately something about Braden that I like. Despite the 5.12ERA and the 1-5 record.
