Thank You!!!
I just wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you to everyone for a fantastic AN Day. To baseballgirl for getting everyone there and just being magnificent. Also, thanks to LongTimeFan for the ride to and from the airport. To Billy Beane and Ken Korach for showing up and being outstanding guests. To monkeyball for manning the site and keeping this online haven going when we were all converging on Oakland. To salb, the Midwest boys and grover and all the others who made the long trek to Oakland for the game.
Honestly, I want to say thank you to everyone. I love this community and you make me thankful each and every day that I started AN. I don't know if I'm coherent right now because I had to get up at 5:30 a.m. to get to the Coliseum for the game. But it's great to see so many familiar faces like Zonis, Devo, sslinger, Englishmajor, McFood (and the very adorable McNuggets), Apricot, Melody, GreenNGoldGirl and so many others while also meeting so many people I hadn't met before like grover, ohtobelikehuston, salb and even monkeyball (yes, we'd never met in person).
I'm pretty sure there will be many photo diaries to come as people seemed to have cameras all over the place today so there will be more to come from AN Day IV: A New Hope. Oh and in case you missed it, some really cool new tees were unveiled at AN Day and are available in the AN Store. Yeah, We're All Gonna Die!
If you want to share any stories from the day or have any thoughts about AN Day you'd like to share, please feel free to do so below.

I am so glad I went
This was my first AN Day and I can't believe I had never gone before. Besides the interviews and meeting everyone, it was just super awesome to sit around intelegent and passionate fans. It made me want to sit with Ya'll all the time!
I was glad to finally meet people and shake hands with people who I have talked to for year and never met. It certainly has put a new spin on my day to day AN experience. Now I have faces to put with these names that I talk to on a daily basis, and that is awesome!
I wish I had met more people. I think I was a bit overwhelmed and shy. But am glad I met everyone I was able to get to! I will certainly be seeing you all next year!!
Oh and THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to make today happen, I really appreciate everything you do for us!

I was shy too.
I talked to a few people but sat by myself most of the time. I guess I need a 'wingman'. I didn't meet Nico but I wanted to tell him how much I loved being called a 'draconian bitch' by him. Maybe next time.

I didn't even know you were there--
I would have loved to meet you, mlleaimee (and many others I'm sure I would have liked to meet but whom I didn't know were there). It's hard to meet everyone because to figure out who someone is you have to stare at the nametag on their chest, and if it's taken the wrong way then you're back in front of that same judge who says, "You again?" and you try to remember if he was the judge in the trial where the shepherd testified.
Anyway, point being I wish we could have said "hi" but oh well...
Never mind mlleaimee....
All of AN wants to know if Randy Bell was there. Was there anyone serving non alcoholic drinks?? That might have been him.
Someone was hanging around
reciting scriptures and grinning a lot, but I didn't get his name.
Well, if he was saying the end is near...
He's probably right.
The feeling is mutual

I'm so sorry
There are people in our section that aren't ANers, so I didn't want to go up to random people and introduce myself because that's weird at a game. But please find me next year for sure! I'd love to meet you.

hmm...
I think that's one of the most fun things about going to a game...
...sitting down next to some random fan and saying something like, "Did you know that Joe Kennedy got waived out of the American League because he blows snotrockets on his teammate's shoes when they're not looking?"
Of course, the random fan looks at me in a combination of curious questioning and utter horror, and then I excuse myself to "get up and get a hotdog" and repeat the process three sections over.
It's a great way to pass the time during a blowout.

I can't believe you were there and I didn't
get a chance to meet you! Please next time, introduce yourself to me! <cries>

Oh my gosh!
I was sitting right in front of you for the first part of the game. I was asking you about MLB.tv and how well the picture looked. I told you about how I might move to SoCal in a few years, and wanted to get all the info. I hope that jogs your memory a little, if it doesn't I totally understand cause you were meeting and talking to tons of new people yesterday! =)

But you never told me who you were!
I certainly remember that conversation and I remember you, but I didn't know who you were :-(
by Tyler Bleszinski on Aug 5, 2007 10:02 PM PDT up reply actions
I saw who BCG was, but
(and this is the honest-to-God truth) I was afraid to introduce myself because of all the harsh things I've said about Crosby over the years. I figured BCG would either start crying or would hit me. OK I wasn't worried that she'd cry.
Wimp
If BobbyCrosbysGirl was going to attack anyone it would have been me. I've been trying to get rid of her underachieving boy-toy for years!
HAHAHA!!
Wow, I really don't know what to think about all that. For one, if you had heard the conversation I had with my "friends" at lunch today regarding my boy, you would know that I can handle criticism about my boy rather well. Over the months, I have simply gotten use to it.
Second, I am sorry Blez that I never said who I was, I guess it didn't occur to me to, normally when I converse with AN people, my user name is attached to everything I say, so to have to say... "Oh yeah, I am BCG!" wasn't something I even thought about. Next time I will know!
And third, I totally understand why people want to be rid of Bobby... I have from time to time been so afraid it was actually going to happen, I contemplated what I would do about my screen name if it did. So don't worry, I won't attack anyone I meet in real life. Unless I am forced to of course! ;)

Thanks!
Thank you to Baseballgirl, Blez, Nico and everyone who helped put this day together. This was our first AN day and my family had a great time. Getting to meet you all and Billy Beane and Ken Korach was an amazing time! We don't post that much but we're reading AN regularly and enjoy having a great community to share our love for the A's!! We hope we'll attend many more AN days in the future!!
Wolverine, Indigo, and OaklandADude :)
So Far away....
I too wish I could have been there today. Not only to watch my favorite team but to meet all my fellow ANers. Keep those updates coming about the interview with Billy. Great job Blez and all those involved. If I wasn't an ocean's away here on the Big Island of Hawaii, I would have been there. I am thinking of moving back to the Bay Area in the next few years (before the A's move to Fremont) so I will meet you all down the road.
sounds like it was fun
Sorry that I had another commitment. I heard Ken Korach mention hanging out before the game with "the folks from Athletics Nation... a good group of fans of the green and gold."
Would've loved to be talking with salb when the A's sac bunted on the way to a critical run.
Looking forward to the pics!
Speaking of Ken's mention,
was it not ironic that he started to talk about AN but was cut short when the inning abruptly ended as Scutaro hit into a DP? Then it went to the 3rd, so Ken turned it over to Vince and the topic was lost. Fitting, somehow.
It was very nice to finally meet you
I love your contributions to the site and it was great to finally put a face to go with the screen name ;-)

Aw! I didn't meet Poppy!
Where the hell was I?
You were busy drinking
And trying to convert your friend into joining our merry band.
Oh yeah. Had to get those last beers in
before the end of the 7th. Damn me and my priorities! I thought we were doing a good job of converting said friend but I think we may have scared her off more than anything!
I had such a great time that I changed my flight
and am staying for the Haren vs. Slingblade (credit to Blez) match up today. Hopefully my trip will end nicely with another victory over the Halos. I'm still trying to figure out how we won with only two hits but I guess that is LAA's problem, not ours. unle
Nebraska is heading to the game with a RAF so I am going to the game solo unless you include my camera. I'll get plenty of good shots on the website in the next few days.
Will it be easy to find tickets outside the stadium today? Any pointers from the locals? Thanks

You are of course
more than welcome to hang with us today. We'll be in the bleachers and now that I know what you look like it will be much easier to meet up :)
Are you sitting in LF then? I may see ya there.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 5, 2007 10:14 AM PDT up reply actions
Yup
probably getting there around 11:30? Have to go say hi to friend's boss/co-workers who are in a suite today so if you get there early let me know where you settle down and we'll come join you.
I'm glad...
that you were able to change your flightplan and make it to today's game. Here's hoping you have a great time in the LF field bleachers, a place that I firmly believe is one of the most energetic sections in baseball period.
And on a larger note, I too send out my thanks to Blez, BaseballGirl, Louis, and Nico for helping make yesterday so special. It was truly a fantastic day and even if I didn't get a chance to catch up with everyone (I did want to talk to Grover more), the folks that I did spend time with were a lot of fun Just being able to say that Poppy does, in fact, exist is a good thing.
By the way, that's a good question that Zonis has a little further up. Did anybody catch a shot of the board? And didn't they actually cut off the "S", making it so that it read Athletic Nation Rocks? Either way, I'd love to see the shot if anybody got one.
Great AN Day and Great game
We really enjoyed being there with all the rowdys. Momcat and I were sitting in row one next to GreenandGoldGirl. It was a good time. Thanx to everyone for organizing it and making Momcat's birthday present so memorable.
Looking forward to next year.
Let's go OAKLAND
http://all-about-sportsblogs.com
I'm so bummed I missed it!!
I watched the highlights last night on Canadian tv (hockey, hockey, boxing, arena football, hockey, ten seconds of baseball), and I thought of all of you. Thanks for bringing the winning ways with you!! Hopefully I'll be in town next year for it. :)
Really!
I mean, it's been more than 24 hours...I was expecting to see some galleries by now.
I went to AN Day II...hopefully we can make it out to AN Day V next year!

I had a great time
Really enjoyed my time at the Pacific Coast Brewery for sure. It was certainly nice to be at an A's game as the majority fan, not like it is in K.C. We got back to Wichita around 12:30 PM CST, which puts getting up at 3:30 AM PST in perspective. All in all a great time. A big thanks to everyone for taking in some Midwest A's Fans and showing us a great time. I look forward to a return trip to the Bay some time, and can't wait to see how many people make it to KC for our next Midwest AN Days. Take care!
Next year, somehow we have to
find a way to let everyone know who's there and who's who--I didn't know you were there, didn't know milleaimee was there, probably missed saying hi to a bunch of people I didn't even know were there but would have liked to meet.
And then I end up talking to salb918 and McFood. Sheesh.
Maybe we could do a role call
of course with all the people there, that could last an hour... ;-)
by Tyler Bleszinski on Aug 5, 2007 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions
I just saw "Hairspray" and I think
it would be awesome to line up and do a roll call the way they do it at the beginning of the Corny Collins show. Of course Rashad wouldn't be quite tall enough for the camera...
sigh
i've said it before and i'll say it again - stupid wrong coast.
i really want to know what questions were asked of beane and if he had anything real to say in response.
A lot of questions,
and no.
name me a GM of any sport who would have
John Schuerholz
Only then I'd get a sore arm for two years and suddenly I'd wonder what happened.
I've had a sore arm all my life ...
... and I've never even met Schuerholz.
Well, I blew it.
Should have just sucked it up and wasted my tickets to this game in favor of AN Day ones. I was ridiculously late to the game for the first time in forever, thanks to traffic that was solid from Natomas to Davis, then from Dixon to Vacaville (?!).
Next year, next year...
