let us now praise phamous men
if tonight's ESPN highlights of 90% phillies make you wretch, you may not want to watch the postseaston
so the clear winners for 'best august' goes to the phillies, whose offense has been consistently amazing for the past month against some extremely tough (pre-AS #s, at least) pitching. the funny thing is that they also seeded a nice run by the padres in a couple of their few losses in the past few weeks - giving us a preview of the paper-rock-scissors which always seems to happen in playoff matchups.
otherwise, nothing has happened of note in the pennant race lately - central suckage in both leagues was painfully obvious a month ago.
who will be the team of september? i know who WON'T be that team - the new york yankees - but that's about it for my strong convictions - I could see every single race resolving almost exactly where it is now quite easily.

government's in... gridlock!
Why does it say the Phillies clearly won
best August if they are 15-12 for the month and the Padres are 17-10?
And why did I spend 15 minutes of my life looking to see if that was true?
All I know is that
I vow to post a separate diary for every team that goes 3 games over .500 in September!
yeah phillies are 15-12 in august, unlike the a's
who could only manage a 16-12 record so far this month.
if only the a's were being run based on "winning baseball" instead of "personal resentments", perhaps one year they too could manage to have a decent win-loss record in august, like the phillies....
because the pods looked like div champs all year
while the phils were stuck at 500 and far out of it. they also overcame a horrible onslaught from the DL while the pads had MB fall into their lap thanks to the a's being run based on personal resentments rather than winning baseball.
the pads have been easy marks for the playoffs from the beginning of the year. only true knuckleheads thought dodger blue was going anywhere, while byrnes isn't enough to carry the dbacks much of anywhere. the phils, on the other hand, are in the same div as the mets, braves and NOOK LOGAN.
So the Phils were stuck at .500
until they surged by going 3 games over .500 in August. Has that ever been done before?
look at the season
howard started ice-cold, was knocked down the order, PB was the most hated man in PA for a while, and then the DL seemingly was taking one starter per day just as the best teams in the NL came up on the schedule. they ended the month by sweeping the best team in baseball and cut the divisonal lead in half while climbing over 3 or 4 teams in the card chase. if you need to strictly reference a particular time frame because the actual personalities involved in a baseball team are too much to process, pretend the month started on july 20.
not by the a's, that's for sure
You guys are all just H8ers, that's all
I on the other hand am notah8er.
(No really I'm not thank god too).

The Phillies are doomed, and all their fans know it.
