DLD - 8.15 - A Custian Performance

Jack. F-ing. Cust

"That was a Custian performance," the A's starter said with a grin. "No more 'Ruthian performance.' He's Jack Cust. He's incredible. He can swing the bat with anyone."

E-Lo ready to go

I feel good," Loaiza said prior to the A's game against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. "But it's up to them and what they say."

With Monday's demotion of Dallas Braden, the A's have an opening in their rotation for Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Loaiza and recent call-up Dan Meyer are the two candidates to fill the slot, but the A's coaching staff and front office weren't quite ready to make a decision Tuesday.

In fact, manager Bob Geren indicated the team might want Loaiza to make one more rehab start.

"We'll see how he feels (after Tuesday's bullpen session)," Geren said. "Ideally, we'd like him to make one more start (with the River Cats) in Portland, but we'll see how the next few games go."

A nice little fluff piece on T-Buck

"It was a huge step to get to play in the big leagues," Buck said. "It's been crazy to think that I started last year in (High A) Stockton and now I'm here. It shows the success you can have if you work hard."

On this day in baseball history...

1916 - In a classic pitching duel, Babe Ruth of the Boston Red Sox beat Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators, 1-0, in 13 innings at Fenway Park.

1990 - Mark McGwire hits a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the tenth inning to give Oakland a 6-2 win over Boston. He becomes the first player to hit 30 home runs in each of his first four seasons.

In other news, Madden 08 was released yesterday. Anyone else on here have it? I have the PS2 version, and I'm kinda underwhelmed.
