Kiko Calero is back in the pen tonight, supposedly with a new changeup as well. I hope Jason waits 3 games until he calls a slider, and make him throw something else, unless everything else gets hit.
OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's today reinstated right-handed pitcher Kiko Calero from the 15-day Disabled List and optioned left-handed pitcher Dallas Braden to Triple-A Sacramento.
Calero has been out since June 25 because of inflammation in his right shoulder and added a number of changeups during the simulated game. Calero has always been known for his two sliders and fastball out of the A's bullpen, but both Brown and Murphy raved about the righty's offspeed stuff.
"His changeup looked real good," Brown said. "I don't remember him having a changeup."
Calero said that his shoulder felt "very good" after throwing from the windup and stretch and that he plans to incorporate his changeup more when he returns.
"A lot of people tell me I have a good changeup," Calero said. "But I never throw it. I think there are times when I need to be able to throw it."
