DJ next??
I've been hearing a lot about how Swisher is a far superior 1st baseman then JD latley and also noticed he has been playing 1st base instead of Dj the past couple games. Anyways, Dj is involved in trade rumors to the Twins and Yanks. I'm sure he'd love being in Minnesota.
here's the ESPN insider in rumor central on the topic
'A' trade consideration
Jul 15 - The A's first baseman has had his name linked in trade rumors with Minnesota and the Yankees, reports the Contra Costa Times.
If Johnson were traded, it could clear a path for hot prospect Daric Barton, who has been tearing up Triple-A pitching this season, hitting .323. And Johnson, 27, who's hitting .256 with 10 homers and 37 HRs, would provide a team with a left-handed power bat.
I wouldn't mind trading him... Also, how clever is ESPN, "'A' trade consideration" haha, god, it's so clever and witty. (sarcasm)
See ya DJ, i say it happens soon but thats not really going out on a limb

If the A's really are in trade mode...
Then yeah, DJ should be the next to go, with Barton being called up.
Then comes Kotsay, Crosby, Kennedy, Stewart and probably Embree as well.
The question is if we can get anyone good for these guys...
My guess for the next trade bait is...
Piazza. Something about that 8.5m salary on a team with dim playoff prospects screams TRADE ME. Though I agree possibility of DJ getting shipped out in favor of Barton could happen too. Thinking BB could be working the lines trying to drive up DJs trade value since he's got more leverage than he did with an aging, non-hitting catcher.
Chronicle reports rumored trade for Scott Proctor
Please God, tell me this is not true. Scott Proctor is HORRIBLE. And he's just a random bullpen arm, something that the A's (if they're moving toward next season) don't need. Certainly not as much as they need competent hitters like DJ.
I don't really understand the rush to trade DJ
He has an .812 OPS. He is a 'moneyball' player. He is cheap. Those factors scream 'keep me'.
I understand that this is the first time since 98 that we are going to be nothing more than sellers at the deadline but why sell DJ? I see no pressing need to bring up Barton at this point. Let him have a superduperstar year at AAA and then bring him up.

I think it's a redundancy and long-term issue
Barton should be able to match DJ's OPS, probably with less SLG but more OBP, and they like him better long-term. But since neither one has another position, and Cust looks like a legitimate DH for the foreseeable future, this just makes sense.
