Honor Rickey:
To everyone, and I MEAN EVERYONE, who thought that Rickey's poker playing "incident" was the downfall of his career...(Cue Raspberry)...pbtpbtpbt... :-P ...I stick my tongue out at you.
The City that was "so upset" has just taken one more great from OAKLAND and added him to their fold.
It is no accident that Jose Reyes is having the year of his life.
The Mets have been bringing in Rickey to work with Jose for the last 2 seasons.
He was always invited in and then excused when the season started. This is when the A's had the opportunity to keep him here in Oakland. I mean, Rickey even went out of his way to be at Fanfest. Call it posturing, call it ego...I call it, "Rickey is from Oakland and as anyone from Oakland knows...We have a special affinity for our home"-er-ish-ness.
I mean, wouldn't Rickey be the perfect person to stand at 1B and tell you when to go. How about waving you in from third?
What I am most happy for is that the team that sent him into oblivion, The Mets, are the first team to really reach out to one of the top LIVING ball players and give him a position.
It coulda/shoulda/woulda been us.
Just watch what happens with Lastings Milledge now. And how about Jose Reyes being tutored by Rickey every day?
Congrats Rickey...We Love You In Oakland Baby!!!

Rickey is awesome.
I would like to have seen a brief September comeback, but them's the breaks.
Rickey is unlikely to be displaced as my all time favorite player.
Game 3 last year was the best sports experience of my life, and Rickey kicked it off with some great mojo.
I will not "be square" when his number is retired.
It's funny that the Mets
hired Rickey as a base coach and DFA'd Julio Franco the same day--they're almost exactly the same age.
Rickey da man
It was sad seeing the Hometown Heroes exhibit at FanFest and - no knock on Reggie - not seeing Rickey as the number one. He should always be #1 here.
didn't fanfest. no way
reggie should be ahead of eck fingers and the rickster. they are hof'ers as a's. reggie is a yankee.
f 'im. macgwire is a cardinal. f 'im. catfish is a no logo on hat hof'er. half f 'im.
Speaking of Rickey
This may have been posted but Newsday offers some great Rickey moments:
http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseba...
How about this one:
-- Remember when Rickey broke Lou Brock's stolen base record and proclaimed over the loudspeaker, "Today, I am the greatest of all-time." That's not all he did. The day before, Henderson arrived in the clubhouse and handed out specially made flyers with the words, "I was there when Rickey Henderson broke Lou Brock's all-time stolen-base record of 938 with steal number 939." He also had t-shirts commemorating the event ready to go.
But enough about Rickey,
let's talk about you--what do you think of Rickey?
More Rickey
Rickey should be with the A's in some capacity.
He couldn't be any worse than Ty Van Burkleo
as hitting coach, or Lachemann at 3rd base who's
Mr. Conservative.
I just get the feeling Beane doesn't like him too
much.

Well he is black...
Beane DID have a locker next to him...
