NO HITTER, NO HITTER, NO HITTER, NO HITTER, NO HITTER. How many times do I have to say it to jinx Schilling?
LET'S GO A'S!!!!! Don't let this jackhole get it.

C'mon DJ!!!
gotta pinch-hit for the 7-9 batters
No joke
Crosby, Bradley...Melhuse?
Bradley, Buck, *maybe* Melhuse
I don't feel great about Cros facing Schill -- Cros will snap in half swinging too hard.
WOOO!!!
LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!!
"Jackhole" is the word of the day.
He is a complete tool but has been known to act like a "jackhole" at times.

May he never again win at ASL!

I'm so embarrassed!
Why... Us? A potential No-hit loss ending 1-0? This one hurts a lot. Can we even get a walk? don't we rank high on that list somewhere?
Hurts a lot?
Say it happens, they won 3 of 4..all that matters. Doesnt hurt a lot.
Not this day
Not this douchebag. Go A's!
Just heard we got Doolittle in the draft. F yeah.
Whoa...
Scutaro's glasses are BURNING gold!

To the 9th! (repeats for no reason whatsoever)

To be fair...
...we have taken the series. :-)
I know, if we lose, I can accept it if we
at least get one hit.

Don't tell my lover, Curt, but I totally agree.
do you turn on a red "on air" light ....
... to get him in the mood?
I hate all the Sox fans cheering right now
LETS GO A's!!!!
I've only seen one no-no in my life...
Nolan Ryan's 6th, pitched against the A's at the Coliseum.
Gotta admit I was pulling for Ryan in the 9th.
But I think we were a lot further behind in that game.
And though Ryan is a jerk, he doesn't hold a candle to Schilling.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:37 PM PDT reply actions
That is, I've only seen one in person.
I've seen a couple on TV.
The first was John Candelaria's in 1976.

You cant attempt to jinx....
Yelling no hitter as a direct attempt to jinx counteracts the whole thing. Call a friend and tell them to turn on the game because Schill hasnt allowed a hit....thats a jinx.
on the phone...
calling a red sox fan and telling him there is a no no in the 9th...
by Erik being Erik on Jun 7, 2007 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions
Maybe they'll
bring in Papelbon? ;-)
This isn't the Royals, only they would do
something that monumentally stupid.

Perfect game
Perfect game from Curt Schilling? Perfect game? A perfect game??! Curt Schilling is pitching a perfect game?
by JR on Jun 7, 2007 2:39 PM PDT reply actions
Actually, no.
DJ reached on an error.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions
Dear Lord,
Please tell Geren to pinch hit the first two batters in the ninth.
Beane isn't listening to entreaties on draft day
Kotsay has hit the ball hard twice
leave him in. PH Milton for Kendall.
by oak1 on Jun 7, 2007 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions
No one's talking to Schilling...
That alone must be driving him nuts...
by FormerHuntsvilleStar on Jun 7, 2007 2:40 PM PDT reply actions
Kots, Kendall, and Stewart -- 3 guys
whose average is about .185 -- stand between Jackhole and his NO HITTER. I want to read on his blog how Jason Kendall ruined his NO HITTER.
does Kendall go deep?
walk off HR with Kots on base.
by oak1 on Jun 7, 2007 2:42 PM PDT up reply actions
i want to read on his blog how ...
... MELHUSE ruined it.
Truly obscure trivia...
Has there ever been a series before that featured both a no-no and a cycle?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:42 PM PDT reply actions
Would be except that mlb.tv feed...
...has gotten totally oversubscribed.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions
They are discussing the no-non on
CNN Headline News. Maybe that will help jinx it.
I hope their SS loves that his error is the only thing marring a potential perfect game.
What are YOU doing for rally mojo?
I'm watching "Ghostride my Volvo" for the 1,496th time....
I'm dipping my Kendall voodoo doll in HGH
Here we go!!
last 3 outs! LETS GO OAKLAND!!!!!!!!
Schilling threw a no-hitter against the A's. Wow

What's funny
is that someone mentioned the no-hitter in the first inning.
i am not a religious man
but i think i may have to pray here
so i called every sox fan i know,
and none of them picked up... i think they're pretending to be smart?
hey, how 'bout some love for Colby Lewis?
He's been doing a decent job out of the 'pen lately.
trying to do my part...
called red sox fan and told him of no hitter.
apparently the 9th is on ESPN
all I can think of to wish no no breaks up...

Let's be clear...
...if Schilling completes this and people cheer, they're not cheering for the Red Sox. They're cheering for the no-no. Different thing.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:45 PM PDT reply actions
COME ON OAKLAND!!!!
I'll puke if I have to actually SEE it happen.
jason kendall
is who we are sending up there to break up a no hitter.
Hey! Schilling's throwing a no-hitter!
The D-Backs
took Roemer... just fyi
sox announcers are
pissing their pants wet on the calls
by oak1 on Jun 7, 2007 2:46 PM PDT reply actions
Shit
I get home and the first thing I see when I turn on the TV: Schilling going for a no-no
On Sickels draft thread, someone wrote:
"kendall should lay a bunt down. I think schilling would shoot him. seriously."
Excellent idea. Schilling then goes to jail, and it's win-win all-around.
</kidding>
<sort of>

Go Shannon - score and tie this up!
OK, so we broke up the no-no, can we win now?
Serious question. I've been following the draft. Don't even know the score here.
Oh that just
made my day. I'll never say sh*t about you again Shannon.
LETS GO OAKLAND!!!!
But just imagine how awful Lugo woulda felt..
Oh, shut up.
I've never felt so good about being 1-hit!
Haha! The day is mine!

Bummer for Blanton
he pitched a good game today. Sucks when you match up with an almost no-no.
sucks to be an A's pitcher quite often

Damn - well 3 out of 4 and
losing the 4th 1-0 not bad against the "top" team in the AL.
Ha Ha
BOSTON PITCHER CURT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH SIX INNINGS.
BOSTON PITCHER CURT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH SEVEN INNINGS.
BOSTON PITCHER CURT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH EIGHT INNINGS.
BOSTON PITCHER CURT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH 8 1/3 INNINGS.
BOSTON PITCHER CURT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THROUGH 8 2/3 INNINGS.
THE SINGLE BY OAKLAND'S SHANNON STEWART WITH TWO OUTS IN THE NINTH INNING ENDED CURT SCHILLING'S NO-HITTER.
All I needed to know. Nice series win Boys.
B-E-A-utiful!
I'll take 3 of 4 against the BoSux any time :)
by ZeroIndulgence on Jun 7, 2007 2:54 PM PDT up reply actions
That felt more like a win than any loss this year
Shannon Stewart will always have a special place in my heart -- the dark corner where I bottle up all my hatred for Schilling.
*clap clap clap*
nice job, schilling. i can't stand you but you deserve a standing ovation.
but shannon stewart gets a louder ovation from me and YAY for the A's taking 3 of 4 from boston!!!!
GO A's!!!!
What's funny is that if I were at the park today
...I would have felt a bit disappointed at Stewart's single.
But I'm not, and I'm delighted.
Almost as good as a win!
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:52 PM PDT reply actions
can anyone explain to me ...
... why in Ba'al's name Geren allowed Scutaro, Kotsay, Kendall, and (even despite the outcome, which, like Kendall SF the other night, was pretty darn unlikely) Stewart to bat in the 8th/9th?
Why wouldnt Kotsay hit...
He easily looked best of the whole lineup...and he crushed that ball to CF that Crisp caught
b/c he's ONE FOR NINETEEN ...
... and had far less power than Buck or Bradley (or, for that matter, Melhuse) even before his back surgery.
One-run deficit in the 9th against a power pitcher who's dealing? You want power hitters up. You want to score with one hit, not need 2-3 hits for the run.
Bradley is hurt....
I would have hit Buck for Kendall for sure....I do NOT get that one at all. I would have let Kotsay hit after watching his AB's vs Schill though.
fair 'nuff
I think Bradley's healthy enough to Gibson his way around the bases, though (unless he's got the wrist problems again).
You would think so...
But he was supposed to PH Tuesday and play Wed and still not in the lineup...Has to be worse than they are letting on.
Not saying I agree
but Kendall has history against Schilling. That might be sufficient reason to keep him in, even if he's not hitting as well as some of the alternatives
unique moments...
last year in Anaheim, I saw the A's lose 3 games and felt pretty good because I enjoyed it with some good A.N folks..."to the champs!!!"
today, victimized by a 1 hit shutout, by Schilling no less, doesn't hurt so bad.
3 out of 4 ...and 8 2/3 in the game to break up no-no.. feels pretty good as well.
5-2 in June ain't so bad
LET'S GO OAKLAND!!
by Erik being Erik on Jun 7, 2007 2:53 PM PDT reply actions
Yeah -- it's cool when you can just enjoy some
ball -- win or lose. TO THE CHAMPS!!!
Maybe it's one of those honor code things
You know, like not stealing bases when you're up 8 runs in the 7th inning, or some other BS like that.
I can see how that might be a "rule"...
...if you're down by five or six.
But in a one-run no-hit bid, that would be total b.s. (not that their aren't b.s. "rules" like that in baseball).
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions
yeah, i agree.
it'd be an ass thing to do if you're down six in the 9th, but... it's a one run game. you're just trying to win the game... right?
damn it
this was meant as a reply to monkeyball's post
I figured that out through the magic of...
context clues (thank you, grade school English classes!)
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions
There is no unwritten rule
about pinch hitting in a no hitter...happens all the time. Just one against bunting.
In this case
I believe Geren either thought those guys had a better shot at a hit than someone off the bench, or he temporarily lost his farking mind.
and speaking of bunting ...
... after Ortiz', wouldn't we have been "justified" in breaking that "rule"?
Absolutely
Which is why this unwritten rule BS is exactly that.
For some reason this conversation reminds me...
...of Pete Rose's complaining that when Gene Garber of the Braves struck him out to end his 44-game hit streak, he was pitching "like it was the ninth inning of the 7th game of the World Series."
I always hated Charlie Hustle as a kid. This moment sealed it.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 7, 2007 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions
if by "honor code" you mean ...
... "Kendall has photos of Geren with the same goat as Macha and Beane" then, yeah, maybe.
lol
by blueconversechucks on Jun 7, 2007 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions
Let's give it up for
Kentucky Joe
Can one of our guys have a no-hitter scare on the angels?
Another great aspect
Without Lugo's error, Stewart never would have even had that AB.
Maybe Lugo will try and commit suicide...
but make an error and take out Schilling instead.
Just kidding, that was in poor taste, but unlike puppies, I never claimed to have good taste.
As the bottom of the 9th inning started I actually said to myself "I hope he loses it with 2 outs in the 9th. My subsequent wish for the MaEl walk-off didn't turn out so well.
I'm liking this Stewart kid more and more all da time.
puppies CLAIM to taste good?
Never trust a talking dog.
Another postive note...
maybe this will convince KICU of the error of their ways in not broadcasting midweek day games. Cause you know....a potential no-hitter wouldn't draw nearly as well as a re-run of family feud.
Why not FSNBA?
I mean, how many poker tournaments do we need to see?
There are different ones?
I thought I was watching and single endless tournament while Chris Rose prattled on forever. It's much like I imagine hell to be. Only on the TV in the corner the Yanks and Sox are engaged in a game for all eternity....which the yanks eventually win.
The Giants weekday games
seem to be broadcasted all the time.
