I've only seen one no-no in my life...

Nolan Ryan's 6th, pitched against the A's at the Coliseum.

Gotta admit I was pulling for Ryan in the 9th.

But I think we were a lot further behind in that game.

And though Ryan is a jerk, he doesn't hold a candle to Schilling.

b/c he's ONE FOR NINETEEN ...

... and had far less power than Buck or Bradley (or, for that matter, Melhuse) even before his back surgery.

One-run deficit in the 9th against a power pitcher who's dealing? You want power hitters up. You want to score with one hit, not need 2-3 hits for the run.

But, you know, if anybody wants to believe that they are the descendants of a primate, they are certainly welcome to do it. @('.')@

Bradley is hurt....

I would have hit Buck for Kendall for sure....I do NOT get that one at all.  I would have let Kotsay hit after watching his AB's vs Schill though.

fair 'nuff

I think Bradley's healthy enough to Gibson his way around the bases, though (unless he's got the wrist problems again).

But, you know, if anybody wants to believe that they are the descendants of a primate, they are certainly welcome to do it. @('.')@

You would think so...

But he was supposed to PH Tuesday and play Wed and still not in the lineup...Has to be worse than they are letting on.

Not saying I agree

but Kendall has history against Schilling. That might be sufficient reason to keep him in, even if he's not hitting as well as some of the alternatives

unique moments...

last year in Anaheim, I saw the A's lose 3 games and felt pretty good because I enjoyed it with some good A.N folks..."to the champs!!!"

today, victimized by a 1 hit shutout, by Schilling no less, doesn't hurt so bad.
3 out of 4 ...and 8 2/3 in the game to break up no-no.. feels pretty good as well.
5-2 in June ain't so bad

LET'S GO OAKLAND!!

Maybe it's one of those honor code things

You know, like not stealing bases when you're up 8 runs in the 7th inning, or some other BS like that.

I can see how that might be a "rule"...

...if you're down by five or six.

But in a one-run no-hit bid, that would be total b.s. (not that their aren't b.s. "rules" like that in baseball).

yeah, i agree.

it'd be an ass thing to do if you're down six in the 9th, but... it's a one run game. you're just trying to win the game... right?

There is no unwritten rule

about pinch hitting in a no hitter...happens all the time.  Just one against bunting.

In this case

I believe Geren either thought those guys had a better shot at a hit than someone off the bench, or he temporarily lost his farking mind.

and speaking of bunting ...

... after Ortiz', wouldn't we have been "justified" in breaking that "rule"?

For some reason this conversation reminds me...

...of Pete Rose's complaining that when Gene Garber of the Braves struck him out to end his 44-game hit streak, he was pitching "like it was the ninth inning of the 7th game of the World Series."

I always hated Charlie Hustle as a kid.  This moment sealed it.

Another great aspect

Without Lugo's error, Stewart never would have even had that AB.

Maybe Lugo will try and commit suicide...

but make an error and take out Schilling instead.

Just kidding, that was in poor taste, but unlike puppies, I never claimed to have good taste.

As the bottom of the 9th inning started I actually said to myself "I hope he loses it with 2 outs in the 9th. My subsequent wish for the MaEl walk-off didn't turn out so well.

I'm liking this Stewart kid more and more all da time.

Another postive note...

maybe this will convince KICU of the error of their ways in not broadcasting midweek day games.  Cause you know....a potential no-hitter wouldn't draw nearly as well as a re-run of family feud.

There are different ones?

I thought I was watching and single endless tournament while Chris Rose prattled on forever.  It's much like I imagine hell to be. Only on the TV in the corner the Yanks and Sox are engaged in a game for all eternity....which the yanks eventually win.
