Open Thread: Game 55 - A's vs. Twins (cont)
Heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, this game is already a half an hour longer than last night's entire contest. Gaudin was knocked out early after giving up a rare two runs, but Flores got two outs, and Santiago Casilla (or Jairo Garcia), finished the inning, leaving the A's clinging to a 4-2 lead.
They need to get nine outs more, and could use a few more runs.

If Hawk Harrelson were our announcer...
...(perish the thought) he'd be telling us how Kotsay was still a better CF than Torii Hunter.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:10 PM PDT reply actions
Yeah, we aren't even going there.
Torii is one of the best. No argument.
and mumble something about politics
Torii can flat play CF
unless it's in the playoffs :-)

Gaudin gave up 5 walks today. Sheesh.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:10 PM PDT reply actions
He was definitely off
But only 2 ER
True. He reverted back to his old days.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm surprised Gaudin got through 5 only giving up
2 runs. He was wild today.
Oh, and I have no confidence in our pen to bring home the win.
I hate Torii Hunter.
Any chance we could sign him next year;
not with our payroll
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions
Heh...no joke
It's Johan Santana
against him as a lefty...surprised he can even see the ball.
Only on pitches
he is certain he can safely miss.
Fickle bunch, us ANers!
I seem to remember a rather different take on Cust not so long ago.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:14 PM PDT up reply actions
What have you done lately....lol
I got much Casillas love going on right now....
way too many ko's jack cust
and nothing infuriates a manager more than when some strikes out without a swing on a pitch that's close enough to swing at.
Cust has gone from Joe Dimaggio..
to Vince Dimaggio in less than a month. Is Piazza coming back soon? They should DH Scutaro...
Can we split the difference....
...and have him agree to be Dom Dimaggio?
We could call him the Big Perfesser!
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions
Nutty Perfesser?
Indeed.
I dug him as Buddy Love.
But lately, he's always Julius Kelp.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions
I remember the game against KC...
where Jairo Garcia gave up a grand slam. Maybe Santiago Casilla is better...
Yeah, screw that guy Garcia...
this guy Casilla is way better. Maby Jack Cust should look into an AKA.
yes but not Jairo Garcia.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions
no!
He was Jairo Garcia but then he revealed his real name and he was actually a couple years older than Jairo.
He's pitched very little the last couple of years.
Why should we believe his new age?
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Cause Homeland Security believes him...
...and when do they ever get anything wrong?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions
it's "almost" comical to see our bullpen
when guys are warming up. It's like Casilla might be a GREAT addition compared to these guys.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:16 PM PDT reply actions
He should have gotten a chance earlier. How
can you have guys like Colby Lewis and Jay Marshall but overlook his power-pitching? I know it's only one game but he looked pretty damn tough.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Duuude...that was just sick
santiago casilla legitimate major league pitcher?
Will Casilla's stuff finally work in the ML's???
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:17 PM PDT reply actions
Now he changed his name to Will?
Ugh, this is so confusing...
by OaklandInvader on Jun 3, 2007 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions
I dunno...
...how much fun is he having?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions
Well he is "hunting" down the K Zone

Casilla's kicking some ass...
a welcome sight!
You say Goodby
and I say Jairo.
Casilla looked damn good
Maybe he learbed something from Calero last year.
Which Kiko has obviously forgotten.
It's a good thing he wasn't facing us ;)
wooo
Im ready to climb on board the Casilla Train

whoa nelly! not bad
but it seems he is right on the edge of a fine line between mastery and disaster....or that just might be my colored perception based on past nightmares.
Twins bullpen is insanely better than ours...
I'm soo jealous...
I've seen Little League teams...
...with better bullpens than ours!

I told you he's been dominant
the last couple of years here, I know he's got better and I hope he can focus and stablish himself.
I'd like to see Dan Meyer up here..
I hear he's been very good so far...
He throws too many pitches right now but I think
he will get that figured out with more time in the minors. He is currently struggling to pitch more than 5 innings so I bet it would be less in the bigs.

How is Braden doing?
Is he in Triple AAA?
I mean Triple A...
He is in AAA and I haven't checked his stats

Homer right here Ellie!
Do it for Briggs!
If he'd had twins...
...would the other kid have been named "Stratton"?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions
What I wanna know is if he's wearing an
A's onesy?
A walk, a hit for rookie daddy,
how about the proverbial Earl Weaver blast?
Have him leadoff tomorrow if Buck is out.

anyone but Stewart.

son of a gun!
now how bout some more decent relief and luck.
Two more innings to go!
We got this!
(Glances nervously...
....at Marshall and Calero.)
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions
Kiko!
He's a real ironman. Completely dependable. You know exactly what you're gonna get with Kiko these days!
by GreenNGoldSooner on Jun 3, 2007 3:34 PM PDT up reply actions
Walks and homeruns?
Oh, btw Geren is a freakin Loogy, regardless of how crap the rest of the pen is. Stop pitching him against righties!!!
Calero's coming in!
I have complete faith in him! {Turns off radio}
Kiko's due--
who would you rather have in the game
- marshall against a right handed hitter.
- calero against anyone with a baseball bat.
Honestly, who else do we have?
I'm missing someone here right?
Calero, Marshall, Embree, Flores, Castilla and Lewis.
That can't possibly be it, can it?
And Witasick...
oh, wait a minute...never mind
Psssh. Why throw fastballs
We just used our entire bullpen. In 3 innings.
If Embree doesn't have his best stuff today, what are we going to do?
Felipe Geren is at it again
Can't say I blame him too much though.
by awesomer @ Athletics Nation on Jun 3, 2007 3:40 PM PDT reply actions
I forgot to breath for a couple of innings.
Did I miss anything? And don't tell me something ridiculous like Calero recording an out.
on tv they had a kotsay commercial
it was funny.
by smasfan on Jun 3, 2007 3:45 PM PDT reply actions
it was about him anticipating things-spelled wron
by smasfan on Jun 3, 2007 3:48 PM PDT up reply actions
i think when i corrected it its right
anyway he anticipates coach calling for him, bends over before ball hits him in dugout and then catches ball out on warming track
by smasfan on Jun 3, 2007 3:50 PM PDT up reply actions
That devious Embree
is employing the rope-a-liner-a-dope strategy to wear out the Twins in the 9th
Another sweeet Sunday. F*** the Angels!
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 3, 2007 3:55 PM PDT reply actions
Thank God for Embree.
He's been exceptional of late. We'd truely be screwed without him getting 4 out saves!
Woohoo!!!!
Welcome back bullpen!!!!
