DLD 6-22-07 get happy, dammit!

Aaaagh, so much angst over Mr. Milton Bradley.  (There, I mentioned him just so I can push my posts higher!)

I only have a few links, but I think this one is good enough to justify my first DLD.

Roscoe and Lehi's original goal was to keep children off the streets, so when there's no baseball, they take the Royals bowling, golfing, to movies and for pizza. They attend some A's games with help from that team's youth programs.

Lehi says her goal now is to shepherd these children into college. Roscoe said, "I'm in it just to see these kids live another day."

Perhaps next year our AN community ticket fund can help them get to a few more A's games.

It was a good run, Miggy!

Milton or no Milton, Naomi and Bronte still love the A's

Dump on, bitches

Something about the tag

Photobucket throws in. Do you own tag:

img src="URL"

Add in < and > at the beginning and end.

sometimes there are extra attributes in the tag

just delete the title="" and alt="" and it should work.

Ten years after being drafted, seven years after winning 11 games as a too-young-to-drink rookie lefthander and six years after virtually vanishing from the major leagues, Ankiel is close to accomplishing the truly Ruthian feat of moving from a major-league starting rotation to outfield.

Ankiel is closing in on big leagues again

After a no-hitter Anibel Sanchez's career is probably over after extensive labrum repair surgery (same as Schmidt).

Sanchez out for season(s)

Ankiel

I've been rooting for Ankiel ever since he lost it (my roommate at the time was a Cards fan), well before that 'cause he was one hell of a pitcher with a curve even better than Zito's.  I got a chance to see him a couple of years ago at a low A Midwest League game, Peoria Chiefs v. Quad City Swing.  He was easy to pick out; he was the only fielder that went out of his way to avoid stepping on the foul line.  I don't remember his line from the game, but it's great news to hear of his success as an outfielder in Memphis.

Coach, 40, Weds 16-Year-Old Student

Meanwhile, the Hagers say Windy withdrew, refusing to speak to them until she asked them to sign a consent form so that she and her coach — a man more than twice her age — could get married.

Although anguished, her weary parents gave in.

"Signing those consent forms was the hardest thing I did in my whole life, but we had to move on, it was going to kill us all," Dennis said.

Now I don't know about you, but the only papers I would have signed was my plea bargain, or maybe mental disease/defect

But when a bear is attacking your six-year-old son, there's only one thing you can do. Yes, pick up a log and knock it out with one throw.

Of course had that been Barry Zito, the campsite would have been littered with thrown logs and there would have been bears on second and third with no outs.

The Tea Will Set You Free

My favorite part:

"When I drink tea, I don't want to put sugar on it, because tea already has caffeine in it, and when you add sugar you skyrocket and then you come back down," he said. "This kind of tea brings you up little by little."

Must be nice, outdoor grown tea.  That indoor stuff brings you up too fast.

sosa's 600th hr ball

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...

Sammy Sosa's monumental 600th home run ball is being held hostage.

By his teammates.

Reliever C.J. Wilson, one of the ringleaders of a plan hatched back in spring training, confirmed Thursday that the relievers hijacked the ball Wednesday night after it bounded off the chest of bullpen coach Dom Chiti.

Their aim: to get bullpen catcher/video coordinator and clubhouse jack-of-all-trades Josh Frasier an upgraded automobile. Frasier is tooling around in an "older Cadillac," Wilson said.

god i hate bill plaschke

http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseba...

Jason Schmidt's busted shoulder is a dud for the Dodgers, but a dream for anyone possessing both calculator and cynicism.

...

So while Colletti is now understandably doing a slow turn above the fire fed by Dodgers fans still eager to make someone pay for the roasting of Paul DePodesta, I give him one bit of advice.

Don't move. Take the heat. The Schmidt signing was a mistake, but it would be a bigger mistake to risk the future of the team by attempting to fix it.

Colletti has won admirers here by giving the impression that he has a distinct lack of ego. He never says he's smarter than his scouts. He never acts as if he's bigger than the organization.

...

It says here the Dodgers can make the playoffs as constituted.

"Correct," said Colletti on Thursday. "I agree."

He returned my call from Toronto, where the Dodgers pulled off a nice little comeback in an 8-4 victory.

His cellphone received spotty coverage in the stadium, so, before the game, he called me from Manager Grady Little's office. When I didn't answer the first time, he called back 10 minutes later.
