dan meyer - not dead yet?
the consensus is that the braves totally swindled us in the hudson trade - two buck chuck was pretty atrocious (and was traded for nearly nothing this past week), cruz was inconsistent (though he netted us a potential lefty starter (or trade bait) in halsey), and the oft-injured and ineffective dan meyer. but it seems meyer was finally getting healthy this spring. i remember reading accounts of how everyone thought he was throwing the ball exponentially better in spring training. and his stats this year have been very encouraging (albeit a tiny sample size). 3 starts:
AA: 4 IP, 4H 3ER, 3K, 4BB
AAA: 5 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2K, 1BB; 5IP, 0ER, 4H, 5K, 1BB
if meyer can stay healthy and perform somewhat consistently at AAA this year, i think he can regain his blue-chip prospect status. it looks like he's got the shoulder problem that has plagued him since the trade fixed...at least for now. while our farm system is pretty weak in general, we might have some interesting pitching prospects - especially if meyer is back. which is a big if.

The question always has been and remains
can he get and stay healthy.
They've diagnosed and treated the problem at long last -- so the first half of the question is looking promising ... the second half? We'll just have to wait and see. You'll notice that over 3 starts he's thrown 9 innings -- he's a long way from showing that he is physically fit.

He'll be 26 This Year
Dan might regain some form of value, but only to the A's and not to anyone else. There is virtually no team out there who would give anything of value for a 26-year old starter who has really never pitched in the majors and missed basically the last two years of his career with enigmatic injuries.
If Meyer shows he can still pitch well, he will be an Oakland A for at least a few years. If he can't, or if he can't stay healthy, he will be a Rivercat for the next few years.

Minor league free agency approaching
...probably makes it unlikely he's with the A's organization past next year if he doesn't get promoted to Oakland. Granted, the A's have stuck with him through the injuries, but what choice have they had?
I'd say the next 12-16 months (less if he can't stay healthy and effective) are make or break for Meyer. If he doesn't get the call by then, he'll probably have to try somewhere else (or throw in the towel).
