DLD 5/11/07: is this thing on?
Uh, did I miss the Link Dump?
A'S NOTEBOOK / Pitchers get more thrills in the air than they'd like
Oakland has spent a lot of time on the road so far this season, and while the A's finished their three-city May trip with a 5-3 record, their travels have had a lot of bumps. "Every plane trip there's been a lot of turbulence and bad weather."
Oakland A's sign Fremont land deal
The owners of the Oakland A's announced today that they have signed a contract to buy 168 acres for a proposed ballpark development in Fremont. Lew Wolff, the team's managing partner, said the deal will allow him quickly to submit an application...
Pete Townsend paints your musical portrait. I will leave the crass jokes to others.
No matter what happens in the future, even if the Internet gets all Colossus: Corbin Project on our asses, I will forever be grateful for its bringing me Matrix Ping Pong. I can watch that forever.
ps. I have a little idea for creating a kind of web game that would be a replacement for the missing GoG, called "I Told You So". If I can get some time as the semester ends, I'll hack it together. I also have a longstanding fantasy of dumping Baby Winexp on the web for others to use.

I wanted to write one earlier
But I dont know how to do those cool link thingys. Maybe someone can write a diary about how to do a DLD? That way more people can join in.

Latest ... link dump ... ever
a's ballpark blog
the last 4-5 posts are all worth reading
http://newballpark.blogspot.com/
Advance ticket sales account for 80% of all tickets sold. The remaining 20% is walkup sales. Here's a geographical breakdown:
* Oakland accounts for 8.8% of advance ticket sales
* San Francisco accounts for 13% of advance ticket sales
* Fremont's share is 2.3%, Santa Clara County is at 10.5%
* Alameda County in total buys 27.3% of advance tickets
* Contra Costa County buys 20.7%
* 10.4% comes from outside the nine-county Bay Area
* 8.2% comes from outside California
Alameda/Contra Costa
I'd be curious to see this broken down a little farther. I wonder if the numbers are available. Alameda and Contra Costa counties together account for nearly 50%, and both have some areas from which the new stadium will be significantly farther than the current one, and other areas for which they are about the same or for which Fremont is closer.
not just farther
all but inaccessible with public transit.
My guess is that Wolff hopes to make up for present fanbase losses with increased South Bay attendees.
He's also said at various times that past 25,000 (non luxury corporate) ticket buyers you don't really make that much $$.
nice to know that
20-30 million dollars is chump change to Mr. Wolff.
send these to giants fans
and make them cry:
Lets Compare, just to see how bad that list is
Best Position Players drafted or Developed since 1986:
Giants:

1B - Damon Minor
2B - Deivi Cruz
SS - Royce Clayton
3B - Bill Mueller

A's:

he just plays one on TV.

but bill mueller
was the 2003 batting champion, we haven't produced any of those.
we have 2 MVP's
and a slew of Gold Gloves
And if you add 5 years to the list, you could have added Steinbach, McGquire and Canseco.
i was not being serious
batting title is fairly meaningless, even more so when it's hitting .320 for the 2003 red sox.

Sorry, that's a huge pet peeve of mine.

weaver doesn't suck
fewer BBs and HRs than gil meche.
Incentives
Maybe they promised him that if he got his ERA below 15 they'd stick him on the DL.

I'm disappointed
that we haven't gotten to see Kendall bat against Weaver this year. That would be a battle for the ages.
isn't that redundant?
isn't that redundant?
wonder how they'll put Braden
on the 25-man roster tomorrow?
Some of us had thought Putnam would be sent down to accomplish that.
Guess they decided Bradley didn't need rehab starts.
Lineups
LF Stewart
RF Swisher
3B Chavez
CF Bradley
1B Johnson
SS Crosby
DH Cust
2B Ellis
C1 Kendall
Well, at least Kendall is finally batting 9th, but did Geren pay attention the last week or so?
The lineup SHOULD be;
LF Stewart
CF Bradley
RF Swisher
1B Johnson
3B Chavez
DH Cust
SS Crosby
2B Ellis
C1 Kendall
Oh sure, Appy acts too cool
for us, but the day the DLD doesn't show up he's freakin' out.
(Thanks for finally making one.)
\/\/hatever, Lord Poop
We'll see how much you're posting in two years and seven months and earning your regal title five stinky times a day.
You'll probably spending all your time at Hardball Times by then anyway.
Besides, the one time I get to log into AN each day, half the comments are about Lost, which I refuse to watch.
