ooh
moseley is throwing a shutout.
moseley is throwing a shutout.
We really only ...
Have one inning left before the vaunted Angels bullpen gets in there. I'm sad...
It really was...
Hope Chavez was watching.

A hit!
By someone not named "Piazza"!
did you notice
moseley is throwing a shutout.
moseley is throwing a shutout.
moseley is throwing a shutout.
no way
moseley is throwing a shutout??
it was about time.
let's work the tie now.
Anyone know
the whereabouts of Antonio Perez? I probably should just be satisfied that he's not taking AB's tonight, but did another team claim him?
Nope. He cleared waivers
AAA bound
by pickinmachine on Apr 6, 2007 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions
I remember reading
that he cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA.
Released

How about Cust?
Swisher!!!
A's down only 2-1 now. Melhuse... go put on the tools of ignorance.
Did he set up behind the plate
and forget to bring his glove again?
That seal has got nothin' on Knut...

Ok, this is better, anyone know
If someone's warming up in the pen?
coooooll, it worked
moseley WAS throwing a shutout.
The pitches Stewart and Piazza hit
were very, very hittable (should have been driven)--I think Moseley is done (whether he comes out to pitch any more is another question).
Do you guys realize
it's f**king cold here on the East Coast?
it's f**king cold here on the East Coast?
it's f**king cold here on the East Coast?
If it's any comfort...
it's also f**king cold in Oklahoma.
And it's not supposed to be.
Guess that means our senior senator must be right about global warming: it's a conspiracy by the Weather Channel to increase viewership!

Oops,
Crosby broke.
To be honest...
I'm pleased with that. I have no confidence in Crosby at all. For me, the Crosby era is over. He's the new Ben Grieve.
That's right L.
Kennedy did better than any of us hoped. It's the same problem year in and year out...we need some big bats!
Crosby injured again?
Scutaro out in the field. He probably broke his protective seal.
Popped his bubble
I thought Crosby had injured himself on that play
I guess I was right :|
Noticed too
He was not running (jogging) well on the way into the dugout after the play.
Not good.
by NewPosterMojo on Apr 6, 2007 8:34 PM PDT up reply actions
I didn't see him afterwards.
Just saw what he did and assumed he hurt himself.
"Just saw what he did..."
Do you mean "played baseball"?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 6, 2007 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions
Moved.
Same
It was a very good play. But well, it's not good when your shortstop can't survive bending over and making a play on a hard hit grounder. I'm seeing the writing on the wall, and I don't like it.
Hmmm...if he did tweak something on the play as it looked to us like he did - why did he hit?
by NewPosterMojo on Apr 6, 2007 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions
It's Crosby?
Okay.
I was still holding out a little bit, being an optimist and considering how often his injuries occur as a result of crashing into something (2nd basemen, catchers, balls, spikes)... but I think I have to finally officially call Crosby fragile.
Crosby out, Scoot in.
I don't like that.
Yeah saw that on TV it looked
like one of those swings that he injures his back on. Nice, Bobby, nice.
so far, great job by Gaudin and Mr.Kenneddy
whats sad...
is he is pitching better than anyone on the Rangers staff.
by pickinmachine on Apr 6, 2007 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions
He's either
a ewer or a jug. I just can't figure out which.
Twice in one game he hits the back stop?
Nice pitching JoKe
This is the same damn mistake Macha made
They look at the results of the inning. Look how HARD they hit the ball off him. Eventually they'll fall in or go over the damn wall. Hitting the ball HARD means they've figured him out.
I'm not dumping on Kennedy here.
If the A's lose 2-1 (and it's still relatively early), it's the offense that lost the game. For Kennedy to somehow only give up 2 through 6 is a quality start. The fact he's thrown a few to the backstop is amusing more than a managerial error.
I wouldn't blame the loss on him at all
At least not this one. My point is you need to know when you're flirting with disaster. When the opponent's offense hammers the ball off your pitcher, you're flirting.
two runs allowed through 6?
i must be dreaming...
Molina should have dove
That would have been a sight to see.
RUNS RUNS RUNS
here they come.
let's go oakland!!!
LETS DO THIS!!!!
What an AB!
Chavy!!!
Shows grit and intangibles.
I even think he's Mexican enough.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 6, 2007 8:43 PM PDT reply actions
Yeah Chavy!
Chases Moseley. Let's check out this guy Speier.
Ellis should feel free to
drop a bunt (for a hit) up the third base line.
Ugh Spier
I really hope he has a down year.

Only against the A's
I have him on numerous fantasy teams

"Mid back spasms"
by FormerHuntsvilleStar on Apr 6, 2007 8:48 PM PDT reply actions
I'm still trying to understand..
Why he batted at all. It was pretty obvious to me he was hurt while jogging off the field after starting the double play.
by NewPosterMojo on Apr 6, 2007 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions
DAMN!
that would have been sweet, to knock Hudler's teeth out!
Sigh...
Another SO with runner in scoring position
Shocking we have a leadoff double...
and can't score
why didnt buck swing at that
we need a hit here!
b/c it was ball four
i meant the 3-1 pitch
but it worked out even worse.

Last pitch to Buck was NOT a strike!
by Randy Bell on Apr 6, 2007 8:54 PM PDT reply actions
agreed... that was total BS
Rookie got worked
No way it's a strike to anybody else
Yeee-Ouch!
Yeah not a strike
But Buck had to see the strike call coming, umps are bullshit in those situations sometimes.

Buck shoulda jumped down that ump's throat.
That would have been great.
Unreal

yeah, where the damn hell?
They even showed it again on the Angels broadcast.

Is there any website that tracks ump calls?
classic
huge moment in the game and angels fans are concerned with the wave
c'mon let's get out of this
The infield is having a meeting
and Walker isn't invited.
Vlad
this sucks
Witasick vs. Guerrerro?
Yeah. 3 run bomb. Duh.
Witasick = Calero = Oh F*ck
Lame.
Damn Jay.
That is true.
Witasick just gave up more runs than Kennedy had done all game. Of course, Witasick gives up runs just while jogging in from the bullpen.
I wasn't able to watch most of the game. how did
he look?
by larrysgurl on Apr 6, 2007 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions
To be fair...
... you can't really blame that on Witasick. He shouldn't be in there in this situation in the first place.
what does that even mean
by pickinmachine on Apr 6, 2007 9:09 PM PDT up reply actions
Re: To be fair...
Sure. Somebody else propelled his arm at that angle and velocity. Was it... Satan?
You mean a major league game?
Totally agree.
me too
not his fault he's on a major league club and expected to pitch well in a big situation...sorry...
Figure it out
He's the mop-up guy. He's been a mop-up guy for a long time. Putting a mop-up guy in a big situation runs counter to what the mop-up guy is meant for. Because, you see, he'll pitch like a mop-up guy: not that well.
Hey!
Firefox has followed IE...
The new comments names pop up in the lower right....
With all of my nerdiness, "Cool!"
Game ain't over...
Have some faith! Sheesh.
is it game over for the game?
I just felt 3 levels of pain
- Watching Vlad hit that ball.
2. 10 seconds later listening to Vlad hit that homer.
3. Reminded of radio delay.
Nice that you can skil denial and anger.
Stranding the leadoff double
didn't bode well. Witasick vs. Guerrero is a tad predictable. :-(
Please tell me that wasn't Lew Wolf...
standing in the front row clapping with his grandson for Vlad as he entered the dugout. Sure looked like him and the same kid they showed with grandpa the other day. WTF?

In the bright side
I'm liking Marshall.
Rex Hudler is a dick.
I just checked my Daily Buddhist Meditation
(one of the many options on the personalized Google homepage that I can't seem to deselect) and I think it was meant for today's game:
Decay is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence.
(for "compounded things", read "shortstop's major muscle groups".)
crosby
Bobby Crosby - OAK
"Bobby Crosby was removed from Friday's game in the sixth inning due to back spasms.
It's always something. Marco Scutaro took over at shortstop and likely will play the position for the next couple of days at least. It's moments like this that make us wonder why the A's chose Todd Walker over Antonio Perez."
uh, don't we still have antonio perez?
i know, it was a rhetorical question...
reported by rotoworld.
how is that not strike 3
Come on Senor Clutch!
5-1 Halos, Chavez = Tying run
This could be quite the at bat.
Lets go Chavvy!!!
Who's calling on of the following?
K
groundout to short
groundout to third
I'd say K knowing Chavy
I call single...
...just 'cause. :)

by FormerHuntsvilleStar on Apr 6, 2007 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions
Why not guess HR?
Then maybe he would have done that instead... you called the K.
rickeyfan gets the HH blame of the game
lol, to be fair to chavy
he "drove in" one more run than I expected.
But seriously, when's the last time he's come through with RISP late in a tied / losing game?
Never.
And that's because the A's ALWAYS have the lead. (runs into rubber padded walls)
I love watching Scutaro score.
5-2 Halos now. Open base at first.
nice swing there chavy
Even if the A's lose,
if they can make K-Rod pitch it's important--it would be three games in a row for him. Speier is tanked, and Shields has pitched in two straight. Still two games left in the series...
I was thinking the same thing ...
I know these guys have rubber arms, but, C'Mon they are trying to defy the laws of physics with their pen management! :(

At this rate, it's not going to be long
before Jay Marshall passes Witasick on the "depth chart".
I for one...
Want Jay Marshall to start. He should be way ahead of Witasick on the chart.
jay marshall needs to pitch
four innings every game until the rest of the bullpen gets their acts together.
And please, no strikes.
and to get ejected for doctoring the ball
but only after he's already thrown a lot of pitches.
Heh, and lest we forget....
Blown the save....
by OaklandInvader on Apr 6, 2007 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions
finally threw a few..
and they didn't break that much. Not even close to the old nasty stuff we've seen over the years.

full count on Buck
...and every pitch has been a fastbal except one. And it barely broke. Just like last night. Hmmmm.

travis buckle!
you talkin to me?
OH YEAH!
great idea bringing K-Rod in!
Buck can hit F-raud and King Felix.
Let's send him back down!
Awesome at bat, Buck!
Aside from swinging at ball four, that rocked.
Time for the Scoot machine!
bobby kielty against a RHP?
yeah, just saw that
I think the ump has weak
perpheral vision on his right side.
Come on, Klown power!
It is time for some Kielty mojo!!!!
K-fraud is a dick. Yes, Jesus loves you and
hates everyone else.
Oh well, sometimes he gets not owned by us
Think of all the wonderful memories he's given A's baseball
and Piece of sh**t rod just won the World Series.
I hate that, what a douche....
Oh well
We have Danny tomorrow...and I just called comcast upgraded my package so I can get FSN+ . :-) So this evening wasn't a total bust.
I passiontely hate Gay- Rod.

By Joe....
We may have found a 5th starter.
Too bad the first week W-L record doesn't reflect the outstanding top to bottom performance of our #1 thru #5. May have been the best in the majors (Esty who?). I am going to hit the john when we are battinmg this year - and make sure not to miss a pitch.
God bless Joe Kennedy - we will need him with with what I believe will be a lukewarm and cold offense all year.
by Sashulia on Apr 6, 2007 10:10 PM PDT reply actions
Agreed about our pitching, and have faith ..
.. the A's are, as Marty Lurie describes them, "Grinders" - they rarely get going offensively until the weather turns warm in June and July. And you are correct, they don't have a really potent offense but usually manage to "grind out" enough runs to win in games where they get really good pitching and defense, - which thankfully is a fair portion of their games. The Angels don't have an overwhelming offense either, they are similar to the A's in reliance on good pitching and defense, except they run more, - probably because Scoscia is more of a national league type of manager.
Right now I am much more concerned with all the injuries, than with whether the A's are going to hit or not. If the A's can put their "A-Team" out there they will win plenty of games; if they have to put their 'C' or 'D' team as with today, well .. it's gonna be a loonnngggg season .. {g} .. let's hope the former, the 'A' team, will be able to play the maximum games possible. The bench does look better than last year, and there are players with MLB experience now playing in Sacramento who can help out if needed ..
