Open Thread: Game 4 - A's at Anaheim

The A's and Chad Gaudin (Nico, you get your wish) take on the undefeated Angels and Joe Saunders.  Saunders has started two games in his career against Oakland and has an 8.22 career ERA.  Righties have a .752 OPS against Saunders and lefties have a .678 OPS against.  You know what that means?  It means Klown Power time!

Here is the A's lineup:

Kendall
Stewart
Bradley
Piazza
Chavez
Swisher
Kielty
Ellis
Scutaro

Gaudin has started a grand total of 10 games.  He's got an 8.42 ERA as a starter and we all know that he has an issue with walking batters.  Thankfully, the Angels aren't exactly known as a patient team so perhaps that will work to Gaudin's advantage tonight.

The Angels lineup he faces looks like this:

Matthews
Cabrera
Guerrero
Anderson
Kotchman
Kendrick
Izturis
Molina
Willits

This is the first of a four game set where the pitching matchups don't look good for the A's.

LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!

Have a great night, everyone.  Man I am so tired of getting fucked in American sport:  teams leave, players leave, stadiums are ruined, ownership is infantile, prices are outrageous, television coverage terrible, radio lag sickening.

Ya well, fuck you to, sumbitches.  Time to go work out, I got lots better things to do than this.

the lowest is $14.95 for 1 month -- w/ a credit card, and then cancel within 5 days so they don't actually charge you.

Just FTR

I had a perfectly easy experience canceling MLB.tv at the end of last season. I had set up my account to bill me at the beginning of each month, and they charged me at the end of the season for the extra month, which I think allowed you to watch AFL games and all postseason games (after the fact).

I sent them an email, they responded within hours, and my account was credited some two days later. Wasn't a big hassle.

But I think I've heard that you can't watch the A's if you live in Reno, which doesn't bode well for the rest of NoCal.

by Zonis on Apr 5, 2007 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

I'm really glad Stewart threw Kotchman out

but for those of you not watching, that was not a good throw.  It was way over the cutoff man's head, and far enough up the 3rd base line that Kendall caught it on the 3B side of the right-handed batter's box.

A good throw would've had Kotchman by 20 feet.  A reasonably fast runner would have scored.

bounced all the way over the mound, plopped down about 80 feet from the plate sort of to the right of 2nd, infield single by Swisher.

Then, Booby K'd on a 1-2 changeup (not as good as the ball that Piazza K'd on, but still a pretty good pitch).

I can't wait for Monday, to see

Roy Steele throw out the first pitch while saying, "Ladies and gentlemen...Now throwing out the ceremonial first pitch...Me."

Ladies and gentlemen

let's give him a round of applause!

Even more incentive for me to get to the park early.

GIDPs

and outs w/RISP abound.

RagingHarden: Yeah if you get 20 starts out of me I'll be shocked. Like, I'll wreck my drawers.

Truthfully, the issue tonight

isn't the back-to-back HRs, it's letting Saunders off the hook.

Yeah

Gaudin's pitched as well as could be hoped for.

The problem, as it typically is, has not been making the most out of our numerous baserunners.

Piazza...not impressive so far.

What is the contingency plan if he turns into Ron Gant?

Q: How do you sign Eric Karros?

A: By running really, really slowly, and then miming hitting a 4-hopper to 3rd.

back in the day

i was calling Karros, when he was with us, a "played out humpy"  referencing humpy, nickname for pink salmon..... plentiful but nuisance fish with not much fighting character beyond a minute or two.

At my IMac, where suffering is optional.

He'd have to really suck

to lose his job, but I guess it would be a rotation of DJ, Swish, and Buck.

Gotta be a long jog back to the dugout

after that, huh?

What do you mean?

High fives all around for playing "small ball"!

My radio must be off, because I thought I heard that Witasick was up in the bullpen. <throws radio out>

You've been more than helpful in this inning so far.

Reggie Willits at DH is even more comical

than Jose Vidro.  At least he's not hitting #3, I suppose.

some should tell Kendall

That with two outs, he can't get the 6-4-3 anymore.

Kielty giveth and taketh away

that was a horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE, defensive play.  There is no excuse for someone with his athletic ability to be that poor in the outfield.  Every time he slides the ball gets past him.
