Open Thread: Game 4 - A's at Anaheim
The A's and Chad Gaudin (Nico, you get your wish) take on the undefeated Angels and Joe Saunders. Saunders has started two games in his career against Oakland and has an 8.22 career ERA. Righties have a .752 OPS against Saunders and lefties have a .678 OPS against. You know what that means? It means Klown Power time!
Here is the A's lineup:
Kendall
Stewart
Bradley
Piazza
Chavez
Swisher
Kielty
Ellis
Scutaro
Gaudin has started a grand total of 10 games. He's got an 8.42 ERA as a starter and we all know that he has an issue with walking batters. Thankfully, the Angels aren't exactly known as a patient team so perhaps that will work to Gaudin's advantage tonight.
The Angels lineup he faces looks like this:
Matthews
Cabrera
Guerrero
Anderson
Kotchman
Kendrick
Izturis
Molina
Willits
This is the first of a four game set where the pitching matchups don't look good for the A's.
LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!

I don't care about lineups that much....
but Kielty batting 7th drives me crazy.

I should be in SoCal, I have people up the yin-yang down there, never a problem to stay for weeks.

Well finish the rip in my ass!
Those thieving capitalist bastards, I pay a fortune every month just to see baseball!
Have a great night, everyone. Man I am so tired of getting fucked in American sport: teams leave, players leave, stadiums are ruined, ownership is infantile, prices are outrageous, television coverage terrible, radio lag sickening.
Ya well, fuck you to, sumbitches. Time to go work out, I got lots better things to do than this.

you gotta sign up for one of their packages
the lowest is $14.95 for 1 month -- w/ a credit card, and then cancel within 5 days so they don't actually charge you.
by LAXile on Apr 5, 2007 7:08 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
...
I don't trust MLB enough to do that. They are very hard to cancel with, and I can see them forcing me to pay the entire year while attempting to cancel it.

Just FTR
I had a perfectly easy experience canceling MLB.tv at the end of last season. I had set up my account to bill me at the beginning of each month, and they charged me at the end of the season for the extra month, which I think allowed you to watch AFL games and all postseason games (after the fact).
I sent them an email, they responded within hours, and my account was credited some two days later. Wasn't a big hassle.
But I think I've heard that you can't watch the A's if you live in Reno, which doesn't bode well for the rest of NoCal.

I'm really glad Stewart threw Kotchman out
but for those of you not watching, that was not a good throw. It was way over the cutoff man's head, and far enough up the 3rd base line that Kendall caught it on the 3B side of the right-handed batter's box.
A good throw would've had Kotchman by 20 feet. A reasonably fast runner would have scored.

Didn't you hear?
The real Gaudin is stuffed in a locker in Seattle. This is a drunken Felix Hernandez. Geren lured him onto the flight with candy.

Gaudin
Pitching great now. Amazing what happens when you have good stuff and you throw strikes.
by baseb3383 on Apr 5, 2007 8:05 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Those of you who are watching on TV.
HOW does Gaudin's stuff look? Is he getting a lot of movement? What kind of pitches is he throwing? Is he mixing it up?
by BruceBochte on Apr 5, 2007 8:06 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Movements strong
Velocity's strong.
The difference between this start and most of last year is that he's exhibiting acceptable command, and thus not walking people.

it puts Kennedy on notice. I think that's a good thing. He knows he has to perform to hold onto the #5 spot.

Which is evidently relevant to watching Kendall take two pitches for strikes and then line softly to SS.

What I'm encouraged about
is that I'd rather Gaudin occasionally get hit than for him to walk guys. If he can get through 5 innings with 2 runs, it's a great start for someone who hasn't been stretched out as a starter.
