DLD 4/26/07 My First DLD!
I'm a fan of the DLD, and I always wanted to make one. I guess I could have made one all along, but I never felt like I had enough to say. Well, here goes.
Happy Birthday to:
Jet Li,
Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins of TLC,
Jordana Brewster,
Channing Tatum,
. . . and malikot!
Please excuse the cheesiness of the photo. That's a pre-game shot of me advertising my favorite in game snack while giving my best Filipino smile.
Today the A's host the Mariners at 12:35. Joe Kennedy takes the mound in an attempt to notch his first win of the season against Miguel Batista. I'll be spending the first half of my 30th birthday attending the game. Wifey is kicking me out of the apartment for half the day while she sets the place up. I'm hoping to break a trend. The A's are 0-2 this season in games that I have attended. Then again, they are 2-0 in games that I have attended by myself, so maybe I want a trend to continue. Whatever.
Hopefully they can find the offense today. Dan Johnson went 0-3 in his return from the DL, which also sent Adam Melhuse to the minors. Joe Blanton only made 2 mistakes in last night's loss, 2 solo homeruns, but Washburn threw a 3 hit shutout. I'm not sure the game even lasted 2 hours. Chavez was clearly safe at first on the final call of the game. It would be nice to see the team get angry and light up Batista.
Wifey managed to wrestle the remote away from me since the game flew by. I was forced to sit through an hour of American Idol, which included an appearance by Tom from myspace and a terrible lip sync rendition of "Staying Alive" that managed to cast a bunch of actors that we've forgotten in recent years. Commercial breaks? No, that's when she flipped it to the finale of that Pussycat Dolls show. Ugh. All that torture and nobody got kicked off.
The Sharks are in Detroit to open their playoff matchup against the Red Wings. The game is at 4:30 on the Versus network. This combination always brings up memories of high school and watching Arturs Irbe take on Chris Osgood. This is gonna be a great series.
I know this was last weekend, but I didn't see anything posted. My hero Eddie Van Halen is out of rehab and was an honorary race official at the (I hate Jared) Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix. He cut his hair, and looks a lot like he did when they recorded Balance. He also promoted his new guitar (which was sporting a $30,000 price tag last time I saw), but unfortunately there was no news about the tour which was put on hiatus earlier this year.
How dangerous is drinking and riding a horse? No, not the dance (that's Ride That Pony, which I allegedly did once in Safeway when I had too much to drink). I really do mean riding a horse. A German man couldn't find a designated driver, so he did the next best thing.
That's about it from here. I'm off to a day of baseball, and most likely a night of drinking which may or may not result in drunken karaoke. Friday should see an healthy intake of fast food and Pocari Sweat, then I oughta be back to normal by Saturday. I don't know where I'll be sitting today since I'm buying my ticket at the game, but if you see/recognize me, feel free to stop by and say hi. I don't really know any of the local ANers, and it would be nice to put a face with the name. Dump away, ladies and gentlemen. . .

Happy Birthday
Are you half Pinoy?

yes, typical story
Mom was a nursing student, Dad was in the Navy, they met in the islands and moved to California.
Happy Birthday!
drunken karaoke, one of the greatest activities ever. I say that b/c I love to sing, but when the people I'm with are sober, they never let me get my hands on the mic.
best drunken karaoke song =
"Take On Me" by A-Ha

When I get really drunk I prefer
to go with the love ballads. Mildly drunk I prefer the more upbeat fun to sing songs. And sober, well when everyone's sober - like I mentioned before - I'm not given a chance to sing anything.
I'm known for
belting out 80's tunes or anything by Barry White. I don't sing while sober either. My terrible voice is one of the main reasons I took up guitar.
After a few hours,
people are pretty tipsy, the karaoke is really going to hell, and then - inevitably - some idiot thinks he can do REM's "It's the End of the World (As We Know It)."
Best song to Karaoke: "Whip It" by Devo
Second best: "My Best Friend's Girl" by the Cars.
Glad to see you're back with wifey, malikot.
The third.
And what's this about devo "whipping it?"
Interesting
Both of my comments are new, but the both of the comments of yours to which I replied are not.
thank you, thank you!
it's good to be back. Today also marks the 6 month mark in our marriage- 2 years and 6 months!
Try this song...
Turn me on - Kevin Little
Your friends will love you.
Happy Birthday!
Crap. What day is this? I complete forgot about Lost. I got busy working on the Travis Buck Bobble Village Tribute. Fire Me Now!
I hope you had plenty of old Barbies to scalp.
Happy Birthday and
Death to Myspace!
In other news, some fans attending AAA-Buffalo games are exceptionally stupid. (Third item) Welcome to the Show, Shin-Soo Choo.
Eh?
Didn't the article say fans on the road are taunting him?
I hate you.
dude
believe me, I'm showing great restraint
i hate the red sox.
my link: O's announcer said ... curt schilling's infamous bloody sock in the 2004 ALCS was a fake!
"It was painted. Doug Mirabelli confessed up to it after. It was all for PR," Thorne said during the Orioles-Red Sox game Wednesday.

LAAAAAME!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MALIKOT!!
far worse than Schilling's mendacity ...
... is Terry Francona's lack of a sense of proportion:
What we're going through today as a nation, you hate to use a word like heroic on the field, but what Schill did that night on the sports field was one of the most incredible feats I ever witnessed," Francona said.
Lack of a sense of proportion?
He said that it was one of the most incredible feats that he has ever witnessed. How does that show a lack of a sense of proportion?
maybe it just shows that he needs to get out more

Get it while you can:

FSU had said earlier that he wouldn't mind if someone excerpted the Forbes franchise value analysis as a separate diary. I may do that later, if he still has no objections and if no one else gets around to it first.
In the meantime, it would be nice to know who deleted it and why. Is this just one of the features of the New AN?
no wonder he deleted it
only five comments!
It must have been cached from an early time, the
diary had well over 100 comments

Still leaves many questions unanswered.
The Forbes valuation discussion was great. I fully endorse its diarization.

buster olney says that beane should trade harden before he develops a rep as being injury prone. umm...too late?

Did Olney write this 2 years ago
and forget to mail it in?
QOTM!
by BlameChannel53 on Apr 26, 2007 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions
Olney's been mailing it in
for more than 2 years.
Actually I'm not that familiar with his writing, so I don't know if that's true, it was just too easy.
olney hasn't been mailing it in
he just doesn't know much about baseball.
I got no real links except
I want to reiterate the importance of getting EVH out of rehab.
He looks a MILLION times better than he did, I dunno what drug he was getting off of (but I have my suspicions) and I really hope he can reconcile with Michael Anthony (at the very least) and get his show on the road!
heres some of the earliest footy i could find on the youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1uZS...
I wish Eddie could improvise better though. Here's some 2007 footy from a guitar demo, he is seriously sketched out.
Last time I saw Van Halen... Eddie didn't want to
leave after the show. They had finished their set and everyone except Eddie wanted to get the hell out of town. He was JUMPING UP AND DOWN using a combination FIST PUMP to the crowd but it just went on and on. Sad to watch really.
I'm looking forward to their next tour but might have to do a Dave Matthews/Guster cruise if things don't work out with Wolfie!

Eddie Van Burkleo?
He could teach the team how to hit "something", but it wouldn't be baseballs...

Lineups for today...
Make what you will of it, scary looking, but given the circumstances it is what it is:
It is...
terrible. Understandable, but terrible.

mmm Karaoke
have yet to do that myself, but wouldn't be against it.....perhaps some more cheesy 80's songs..perhaps "Robert Palmers Addicted to Love" would be a good one?!
As an "almost 40" yr old...
I'm shocked to find out Van Halen put out anything after Fair Warning...

aw cmon...
side B of 1984 is some of the best VH ever!
by popcornjames on Apr 26, 2007 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions
You must be way short of being "almost 40"
I like the album but most VH fans feel that was the end of the band or the day they became commercially accepted. "Jump" and "Panama" were the beginning of VH on pop radio stations.
DROP. DEAD. LEGS.

House Of Pain!
Yeah, I know the whole "selling out" thing... but come on... "Diver Down" to "1984" was still a big jump from a songwriting perspective, you gotta give em some love for using Hot For Teacher as a single - it had a frigging hella long drum solo in front!
But yeah - I'm about 6.2 years from "almost 40", but I'm also a drummer and huge music fan, and everything VH did up through 1984 was my bread and butter during my more formative years.
They introduced me to the Kinks, Cream, and jazz even, indirectly speaking.
by popcornjames on Apr 26, 2007 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I've seen VH several times
including a couple of Dave shows.
While Fair Warning is my fave, Carnal Knowledge had a great groove to it, and some of the stuff on Balance was good, too.
I saw Diver Down, but seeing VH at the Cow Palace when 1984 hit #1 is something I'll never forget.
However, the Carnal Knowledge tour at the old Arco with Sammy was probably the tightest VH show I ever saw (Sammy never stumbled around drunk and forgot the words ala Dave).

A brave and admirable life decision.
Of course, this is hilarious:
I thought you said 'Trainspotting.'
Drug probe leads to Vick property
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...
Police conducting a drug investigation raided a house owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated.
Police also found items associated with dog fighting.
"dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated"?
Michael Vick has been harboring the A's 40-man roster on his property?
Braden backing up CF? Get your facts straight!
Rotoworld says:
Nick Swisher - OAK
Nick Swisher isn't expected back from a strained left hamstring before Tuesday.
"That would be a nice target date," manager Bob Geren said. "Anytime with a hamstring the first few days you never know. Sometimes they heal quick and sometimes you don't know. He feels like it'll be four or five days." Dallas Braden has been replacing him in center field.
Question:
I heard there was a way to watch games on MLB.TV even if they were blacked out by using a 'different proxy'. Can someone please explain how to me how to do this?

it's been a great birthday so far
the A's couldn't pull it off today, but the Sharks came through. First lesson that I learned since turning 30? Sunscreen sometimes needs to be reapplied. I'm not quite as lobsterish as I was after Formula D in Sonoma a couple years back, but I'm still a touch red. Evening festivities should be starting soon.
Thank you everybody for all the birthday wishes! You all always take the time to listen to me and put up with my randomness. It's great to be here on AN.
