The Verdict on Garret Anderson is in!
I've read the voluminous comments posted on AN over the last few days about whether or not Garret Anderson should be considered a douchebag for not wearing #42 to honor Jackie Robinson, and I've decided that Garrett Anderson is, in fact, a douchebag.
While I have sincerely enjoyed much of the discussion pitting the symbolism of this gesture vs. serious committment to actual social change, I am hereby declaring Anderson a douchebag, the RevWharholfan a douchebag fan, and this topic settled once and forever.

I've only read his quote
about not wanting to do it simply for the sake of doing it, and I'd agree. So I don't think he's a douche for this episode.
That doesn't mean he isn't a douche, but then again, I don't really care one way or the other if someone decides to wear the number. After all, isn't the point of the uniform being retired that no one will wear it again?
The kind of non-conformist non-conformists hate the most is a non-conformist who refused to conform to the conformity of not conforming.

I second that comment
I have a #42 hat that I will wear. I don't give a frog's ass what GA is going to do.
Let's move on.

It's an opportunity
For some obnoxious people to get all self-righteous. What could be more fun than that? I blame Barry Bonds. He hasn't said or done anything lately (that I know of) to give them their fix.

I see you're an expert on 'obnoxious'.
I see that not from what you say, but how you say it.
Well played, sir. Raising the level of discourse.

He was just on TWIB
One of many players in a long montage who were thanking Jackie Robinson for opening the way for specific players through out the years.
One can only assume that this whole montage idea was brilliantly conceived by Garrett as his own personal tribue to Mr. Robinson. Thank you TWIB for bringing us Garrett's vision.

That montage is what decided it for me, actually.
