RISP-y business
So, the kids went to bed after the 6th inning, fully determined "Swish will pull us through, mom.." I'm not sure if they were trying to be cute enough to weasel a few more innings before bedtime, but I was reminded that this indeed Spring Break, and that they weren't even going to a game until this Saturday. <insert pouting faces here>
Them's the breaks, kids. Go to bed....and leave mommy to quietly finish the panic attack that started when Travis Buck's beautiful triple was wasted.
But it was nice to wake up this morning and tell them that we did win, in dramatic fashion. They took it personally that Swish wasn't the hero, not even registering who Todd Walker was -- but a win is a win.
Kids have the luxury of waking up and having everything right with the world. We grown-ups can see a little further down the trail, and we see where we're headed.......
Here I was, thinking that with a not-exactly confidence boosting Kennedy and a not-fully stretched out Gaudin, that our starting rotation was going to be the uncharacteristic weak-spot in our team. Remember all the hand-wringing a few weeks ago?
Instead, we're settling into a grindingly familiar April pattern: excellent pitching that can't get any love from the offense; choking in RISP; multiple big bats quiet simultaneously; a messed-up looking line-up -- all creating a vicious cycle of poor confidence and missed opportunities.
I'm glad to see Geren had the cojones to pinch hit Walker for Crosby. I now just wonder if he'll have the balls to switch up the batting order. Or if that'll make much of a difference anyways.
If you had the chance to rearrange the line-up how would you tweak it? How do you spread around the crappiness that is our offensive output? Do you rest MB and his clearly weak leg? Do you give Kielty some more time and put Stewart on the bench? Do you threaten to cut an inch off Swish's mullet every time he chokes up a RISP situation?
