Directv MLB Extra Innings Package
Does anyone in Southern California have this package? I am interested in whether or not it gives you almost all the A's games. I had a similar package last year, but a lot of the games were still blacked out, even though I was not living in Northern California. The company really had no explanation for this. I know some others have the comcast package and it works well, but I am still under contract with Directv. Thanks

Depends on your zip code
Here is the DirecTV blackout policy for MLB Extra Innings on DirecTV.
Enter your zip code in the box on this page. If the A's are listed, you will be blacked out of telecasts involving them.
If the Angels are listed (since you're in Southern California), any A's vs. Angels games would be blacked out, but you should be able to watch those on either FSN West or the local over-the-air channel.

This is a good place to mention...
The negotiations between MLB, cable and Dish Network with respect to carrying Extra Innings on those outlets are continuing, with the deadline being today. It sounds like a lot of issues have been resolved; in particular, cable has conditionally agreed to provide The MLB Channel on a basic tier to 80% of its digital subscribers. The stumbling block, and it's a big one, is determining the various parties' equity participation in The MLB Channel (in other words, what share of ownership of the channel will be held by MLB, DirecTV, Comcast, etc.). We should have an answer on this, one way or the other, tonight, so stay tuned.

I just got a letter from Comcast in the mail
It said that none of the In Demand companies are carrying Extra Innings this year. They also offered to give me a one time credit of $90 off my cable bill so I could sign up for the internet crap.
I'm really conflicted. Obviously, I want to watch baseball, but I'm pissed at MLB for pulling this shit, and I'm pissed at Comcast because they couldn't make a deal. Basically, they didn't come through for me when I wanted them to, and I think I'm going to hold it against them.
So what do I do? Take the deal and then stream stuff 24/7 in order to screw them on bandwidth costs? Don't take the deal and never see A's games? Aaarrgh, why is Bud making it so hard for me to be a fan?
Looks like this may drag into Monday
Well, at least they're still talking...
that deadline was extended until Sunday and perhaps into Monday to try to work a deal out although it wasn't clear whether one would be forged with either Echostar, the parent company of Dish Network, or In Demand, which is the negotiating company for big MSOs Cox, Time Warner Cable and Comcast.
"Talks are still ongoing," a MLB spokeswoman said mid-afternoon Sunday. She declined to detail the talks further.
Another source said the parties hoped to wrap up a deal by Monday but that there were "no assurances."
Those who have subscribed to EI through cable or Dish may want to take note of the 5-day trial offer for MLB.tv. If you cancel before the end of the 5 days, you won't be charged.

'cause screw those assholes...
A quick note...
If this deal isn't done, just a note for those who are thinking of switching to DirecTv.
If you currently have HD programming with your cable company, prepare for a two month plus wait for DirecTv to provide an HD receiver and dish. I bought an HD set in February just for the baseball season and when I called DirecTv - I've been a customer for years and have had EI for the last four years - to have my receiver switched out to HD I was given an installation date of April 27th - more than two months away. They explained that the holiday demand had left them short of the HD equipment.
It's pretty crappy if someone is forced to DirecTv, they pay for the EI package, and then not have HD capability for a third of the season. I'm missing almost a month of the season in HD and I'm plenty pissed - I can imagine how their new customers will feel about that.
Just an FYI about DirecTV.
If you have service with Dish, you can also have DirecTV for the EI package only. Or so I've been told. I think you pay for the package and a small monthly fee of a few bucks. I don't know if that helps anyone, but I did it a few years ago when I had Dish and they didn't carry the package.
Also, you can avoid the blackouts of A's game by using a zip code in the Bay area as your physical address. The company could care less what address they bill you at. They will "blackout" the games according to the "physcial" address you give them. You will recieve Bay area local broadcasts instead of the ones in your area, but I could care less about local tv anyway.
Are you sure?
Wouldn't you have to have both a satellite with Dish and DirecTV?
Also, I have been told that if you use a different zip code, you won't be able to get any local channels PERIOD. No ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX

Don't know if you will see this...
but I will give it a shot anyway.
Yes, you will need both Satellite dishes. I didn't care because I wanted the package.
The zip code thing is easy. A satellite signal could care less where you live on Earth. Therefore, the only way to "block" signals is by entering your zip code in their data base concerning your reciever. That has nothing to do with billing. All you have to do is tell them they are blacking you out. When they tell you it's because you live in a zip code that is blacked out for that particular team, you tell them they are using your billing address and not your physical address. You give them an address in another area and viola, your no longer blacked out for the A's. You make be blacked out for another team depending on the address you give them, but so what. I have been doing it for years. I also get all the bay area local channells because that's the address I used.
Where do you live?
I would like to use a Bay Area address as well, but have been told this won't work in San Diego

That's not true.
When you call them...
make sure you tell them that you want your billing address to remain the same. Use a friends (or a hotel) address in the bay for your service. Just tell them that you live there for most of the year if they ask and that is where you want your "service".
It's the same effect as trading recievers with someone in the bay area.
Me too
I probably get to watch 5-6 of the 6-7 A's games a week on the DirecTV EI package, if not all of them. I have a buddy who works at DirecTV and he says at some point later in the year they will have most of the sports channels available in HD.
