Open Thread: Bay Bridge Series Game 1
The boys are back in town! A's-Giants from SBC-ATT-Sprintrizon Park, with Rich Harden taking the mound for the A's in his final tuneup for the regular season. Those still standing will undoubtedly comprise the starting lineup for Oakland. Hope they can find 9 of those.
The starting lineups:
Kendall
Stewart
Piazza
Chavez
Swisher
Crosby
Buck
Ellis
C. Thomas
Roberts
Vizquel
Bonds
Durham
Aurilia
Klesko
Feliz
Molina
Winn

Todd Walker to the rescue
Beane's trying to work his last minute magic again. Walker's a decent hit no field kind of guy. He's a better defensive option at 1B than Ruby. He provides a good left-handed stroke and can fill-in at 2B and 3B. I hink he'll make the opening day roster.

wtf is "<ins>"?
That was underlined when I previewed... like it was supposed to be.
I never use the html shortcut buttons,
except for the blockquote one.
two buck?
Fosse
does he seem confused about whether the home opener is in Seattle or against the ChiSox? He's confusing me
That's more likely than Two Buck.
I want my two dollars!
It's a shame in this day and age
..people be throwin' away a perfectly good white boy like that.
been years since i have experienced
that phenomena...miss it.
That's an A's radio phenomenon
KNBR is synched with TV. I will probably rant about this in the postgame thread.
no tv
and gameday audio is choppy, joy

Rich's splitter looks great
Oh boy I jinxed him.
Lemme try again...
I'm in the Bay Area. I don't have cable (or a TV that gets any reception). MLB usually blacks out A's games for me. Today, they aren't. I'm excited about that.
Yeah, I've seen you say that a million times...
I'm just not very good at the intertubes.
I suggest you write up some step-by-step directions. :-)
Well you got to understnad
the Internet is, its not a dump truck. The internet is a series of tubes!
In other words, Google: Can you use it?
got UHF?
It's on channel 36 ;)
I don't get how TVs are evil.
Did you have one without a channel tuning function or an "off" switch?
I understood that you don't have a TV...
I also wouldn't have something in my house that I thought was evil. I was just curious as to why you think TVs are evil.
And no, I don't think you've told me your wife's name is Poppy! That's not my real name, but I think I'd prefer it.
I don't actually think they're evil.
I just find that I'm a much more productive person when I don't have one (I work from home). I download the shows I like.
It only sucks during baseball season, when I miss Baseball Tonight and can't watch A's games because Zonis refuses to teach me how to use a proxy server.
Is MLB.tv problematic for anyone else?
best so far with this game
out of trying to watch maybe two this spring.
I'm drunk
It's 10:30 here on the east coast, and I'm spending my time watching this. Good indicator of how my nights going.
The A's are a nice solace though. Good to see Harden.
ESPECIALLY since it's not really HIS hair.
JINX!
NONE OF THEM!
Rene Lachemann
makes for good TV
omg
That was f'n hilarious, The Swish & Lach Show.
that was HILARIOUS
Can Lach be mic'd for every game? Please?
everyone would be able to steal our signs!
They'd know every time we'd be about to Steal-...
um... nevermind, I guess that wouldn't matter after all.
Pretty sure I saw
One of the gold/green Bill King long sleevers in the background when Klesko came up. Go AN.
Nope... just "Athletics"
Dissapointing
It's the alcohol, playing tricks on my eyes.
Or the fantastic, fantastic quality of mlb.tv.

its good , real good tonight
Is
calling Rich Harden's pitching sexy a bad thing?
Because I really, really want to.
Benji Molina thinks it's sexy too
They way he looked back at the mound while walking back to the dugout...
Loaiza to pitch tomorrow...
Blanton to pitch game 2.
That's what Fosse said.
Gah
I have a terrible feeling Loaiza is just going to pitch badly for awhile until he goes on the DL again. Do they think his trapezius is going to magically heal?
pulling the poor man's roger clemens move
I'm sure they made more than ONE A's commercial.
Can we please see some others, besides the 4th showing of the Harden/Haren one?
And where'd the game audio go on TV? Did Lach start cussing?
Oh man
First new A's commercial I've seen.
Fantastic.
(there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home.)
Anybody else lose the sound?
or just me?
Oh snap
Signed Todd Walker? Awesome. We got Jason Stokes today too. Hurray for marginally decent role players and low gamble prospects with some upside!
"Angles"
Graphic just said Ty Van Burkleo was the Angles hitting instructor.
And 5A Rent-a-Space ad during the middle of the 1st inning featured Ray Fosse, baseball "annalist". I'm not kidding.
Really? I'm going to rewind the TiVo just to see.
OH MY! You're right.
That's ridonculous.
Of course, I'm right.
Sheesh. ;)
I miss Wash.
Hope he's doing well.
Zito...
hasn't yet gotten used to looking for the AT&T cameras.
why was he picking his nose?
by pickinmachine on Mar 30, 2007 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions
LOL no
I said that because the camera was on him and he wasn't doing his "look into the camera, and then look like he's annoyed that the camera is on him, when we all know he loves it."
hehe
well you cant blame me for my initial reaction.
by pickinmachine on Mar 30, 2007 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions
i miss matt and marcus
well me neither, but fond memories
of shared irritation.
I don't miss Korach.
I wish they'd stop showing him.
Streoid abusers are people too.
Unless they're using bovine growth hormone.
question:
At home games and after a loss are will we be forced to listen to U2? "Walk on" i hate that it is so humiliating.
Hahahaha
I didn't know that Nations spot was a TV commercial too.
Benicia gets a mention in that, which makes me warm inside.
I can't tell you how miffed I am
Good game, though.
Soaker, you may need to
uh oh not again
maybe we should have a charity drive to get Nico a Tivo or DVR. That way he could sync the two.
by pickinmachine on Mar 30, 2007 8:22 PM PDT up reply actions
good gawd, Fraser re-runz..please.
lol
Now this is something new with mlb.tv that I didnt get with the EI package. Cheap Channel 36 commercials for bad re runs and cops episodes featuring mullets

much as I want to see Durazo make it
it seems almost nuts to have anybody but Swish at 1B. that nice play reminded me that he's really the A's best defensive 1B option.
no kidding, that hot grounder he got... for sure
I'm really liking this Jay Marshall guy
...Oh yeah, and Harden. Eeeeeeee!!
Every inning I get more excited for the season to start.
marshall not a loogy after all?
he's been getting lots of playing time this spring and young sees him as someone who can pitch 2 innings, not exactly your definition of a loogy
by J Rod @ Athletics Nation on Mar 30, 2007 8:41 PM PDT reply actions
Forst said Bradley's had sore ribs all week
and Swish will have to play RF at some point
Not liking this...
Lach is a riot!
No mention of Durazo from Forst.
perez is playing CF too
walker doesn't,so i think perez might have an edge
by J Rod @ Athletics Nation on Mar 30, 2007 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions
However,
I'd take Perez in the field
over Walker for sure
(however, I do remember how Walker swung the bat in the 2003 postseason...don't know if he still has it)
never really heard of mitchell
and yet the guy has really looked good this spring
at least the bullpen is a place where we have some depth.
by J Rod @ Athletics Nation on Mar 30, 2007 9:13 PM PDT reply actions
this is the best game ever
crosby wants lach to call him "bones" crosby??
lach needs his own tv show.
so is anyone donating golf balls?

Swisher's 6 inning rant
Can anyone post a transcription of the conversation Swish has about Frank T. and Piazza as Action 36 went to commercial after the bottom of the 6th? Please.
by thefatman on Mar 30, 2007 9:16 PM PDT reply actions
can't remember it all
but he was going on about Frank Thomas and Piazza being Hall of Famers, and how that was the ultimate.
He was telling Buck how much
he used to try to learn from Frank, and how now he was going to do the same with Piazza, and how both are future HOFers.
Thank you.
I heard it...but it was such a good rant that I wanted to read it and absorb it. Especially his buddy's (was that Buck?) reaction. It was absolutely priceless.

Help adding pics to a diary!
Probably wrong place to ask but does anyone know how to pull a picture out of Yahoo?
I have pulled pics off the web before and posted but I opened up a Yahoo account and cannot figure out how to take one of my own pics and display it on AN.
They showed a commercial
about 15 minutes ago, for some place that had breakfast food. Giant something, maybe? What was that place called?
I love Lach
(Speculating on whether the game would be called if still tied after 10)
"I know it's like kissing your sister, but then again it depends on what kind of sister you got."
Got me a new sig.
ok if buck ends the game here put him on the team
God he's like Dustin Hoffman
Just can't not ooze character.
Is this one going to extras?
It is sure looking like it...
by BruceBochte on Mar 30, 2007 9:58 PM PDT reply actions
T Buck going o-fer...
meanwhile, Giants hit 3 long fly balls...
I hope the A's can FINALLY get a run here. But the A's seem to like leaving runners in scoring position...
1st and 2nd 1 out

I don't know if I have a selective memory
but he didn't run very much in the few ST games I got to see. Like he'd hold up at 2nd and everyone would be yelling, "Oh come ON!" and just now he had the green light to steal and he seemed to hold back. Maybe he's timid in all aspects...
