Given the recent injuries, we're due for one of these.
*Using the one available slot on the 40-man roster to add Durazo, and keep him on the 25-man roster to start the season.
*Leaving Buck and Barton down, to delay their arby clock, and more importantly to ensure they can dominate AAA first.
*Keeping Rule Ver Jay Marshall, an easier decision given the injuries.
*Optioning Halsey to the minors as a potential 6th/7th starter - unless Loiaza's injury lands him on the DL too. Even then, I'd rather leave Halsey/Windsor down since they have options and provide us with nice insurance if someone else on the staff goes down.
*Even with Johnson's injury, Swisher pretty much has to stay in the OF, given how thin we are there.
*The odd man out in this roster is Lenny DiNardo, who has pitched well in spring. Can he refuse to be demoted? If he's content to be designated for assignment to AAA, then great...but otherwise it would be a shame to lose him. Perhaps if Loaiza goes on the Down Low we could keep DiNardo and then throw a few relievers (especially Gaudin) for a few innings apiece on Loaiza's first few turns, until he's ready. This would be an easier load to bear with a 12-man staff.
3b-OF Perez (He's the 5th OFer here - allowing us to keep 12 pitchers).
*At this point, we haven't lost anybody we can't live without. This is still a potential playoff team - and it still will be if Loaiza has to miss a few starts. Keep in mind how poorly he pitched in the first half - we have a few guys who can put up an effort better than that for a short period of time.
There are at least 10 players on this team who would be worse to have go down than Kotsay and DJ. Given that every team is going to have some injury concerns, I honestly feel lucky that they are the ones hurt.
